MacFest in the West is a gathering of the descendants of the McNicholas and MacDonagh families of Barnacogue and Curryaune, Swinford.The McNicholas/McDonagh Swinford story began when Owen McDonagh and Nora Morris of Tyrone migrated to Barnacogue at the turn of the 19th Century where Owen opened a Blacksmith forge.They had nine children, Kitty, Maria, Nancy, Patrick, Tom, John, Bryan, Judith and Margaret. Fiona talks of how her father  insisted on visiting Moore’s pub every time he came home. John wrote a play in 1958 called The Country Boy. It was performed in 1959 by the Group Theatre company in Belfast, and more than a month later at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. We also have music from the Woods Brothers from Meelick.
