The New Mexico Court of Appeals significantly restricted the inventory exception in the recent case of State v. Sanders, NO. A-1-CA-40287. Applying New Mexico's far more expansive rights to automobiles and now inventory searches, the court has limited officers to inventory of items in plain view.
