No matter where you look, humans seek speed, fast cars, instant messages, bullet trains. It's certainly true with our technology. As predicted by Moore's Law, we've witnessed technology advances at unprecedented pace and the rise of fast, smart, connected devices. The connectivity part of this equation though has perhaps been the weakest link. It has not kept pace as the rest of the technology and while we've come to expect device connectivity wherever we are, that's not always what we experience. WiFi, the platform that promises always on high-speed connectivity in our homes, in the workplace, in coffee shops, retail, airports, and even in flight continues to advance, yet still has some way to go.The reality is today's connectivity can often be frustrating with patchy network performance, too many users trying to connect at the same time and users forced to wait for a connection or experience content buffering. Well, that could all be about to change, enter the savior of wifi connectivity, wifi seven, the latest standard in connectivity and what some are calling a quantum leap forward from wifi six with its promise of nearly five times speed, improved latency and reliability and projected launch as early as 2024. Is this the connectivity we've all been waiting for?By now, some of you may have guessed this is not Raymond Yin. No, I'm Mark Patrick and I lead Mouser’s technical marketing team in Europe, and I'll be your host for this discussion about wifi seven. Welcome to the tech between us.With me today is Bruno Tomas, CTO for the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA). Welcome to the Tech Between Us.
Welcome back to The Tech Between Us. We are continuing our conversation about Environmental Sensors with Ronan Cooney, Head of Product at Ambisense. To catch up on part 1 of our conversation, visit our Empowering Innovation Together page.
When you say, “air pollution”, the first things that may come to mind include carbon monoxide, lead, particulates, and factory or industry waste - the stuff we breathe outside. But the air we breathe inside is often much more important. Indoor air quality can be two to five times as polluted as outdoor air, thanks to dangers like smoke - thinking of my chain-smoking grandmother; mold, cleaning chemicals, various particulates, and as we learn the hard way from COVID, airborne illness. Factor in the estimates from the US Environmental Protect Agency, that Americans spend an average of 90% of their time indoors, and it’s safe to say the air inside our homes, schools, factories, and businesses, is worth a closer look. With me today is Ronan Cooney, head of product at Ambisense.
Welcome to In Between the Tech. Today, we're wrapping up Mouser’s look at Digital Therapeutics. Mouser sits down with Simon Thomas, President at Freespira to get his thoughts on the momentum behind this technology and the opportunities for engineers in this space. Listen as he shares his unique perspective in this innovative new field of digital therapeutics.
Welcome back to the Tech Between us. We're continuing our conversation about Digital Therapeutics with Dr. Smit Patel, Associate Director at the Digital Medicine Society. To catch up on part one of our conversation, visit our Empowering Innovation Together page to get caught up on part one.
Of all the technologies we talk about here on The Tech Between Us, none affect us as intimately as the one we'll discuss today, Digital Therapeutics. Healthcare has been undergoing a digital transformation for many years, but it's been accelerated over the last few years because of the pandemic. Digital healthcare options such as telemedicine are now commonplace and frankly sometimes even preferred over face-to-face visits. So many aspects of healthcare have gone digital and have been integrated into daily life. Think connected devices like insulin pumps, blood glucose meters, and your own wearable device that sends data back to a central, unified system. Big brother with a stethoscope, if you will. To explore this exciting new field of healthcare, i'm talking today with Dr. Smit Patel, Associate Director at the Digital Medicine Society.
On this episode of In Between the Tech, we're rounding out Mouser's look at the Matter Protocol. Sujata Neidig, Director of Marketing for Wireless Connectivity at NXP Semiconductors sits down with Mouser to share her thoughts on the Matter protocol. Sujata has been working on Matter from early days and has a unique perspective on what the protocol can do for the smart home.
Welcome back to The Tech Between Us for part 2 of our conversation on the Matter Protocol with Chris LaPré, Chief Technical Officer at the Connectivity Standards Alliance. To hear what you missed about the Matter Protocol, listen to part one to get caught up on their discussion.
Growing up, one of my favorite shows was the Jetsons. Now to be clear, while the antics of George, Jane, Judy, and his boy Elroy did make me laugh, it was really the gadgets that got me hooked on the show. Okay. Yeah. I was a nerd from way back. Their lives were filled with technology, but how much did the show get right about future home life? Well, let's see. They had flying cars that turned into suitcases, a maid-shaped robot named Rosie, and more home automation gadgets than we could name. Well, today we don't have Rosie, but we do have a short circular disc named Roomba vacuuming our floors for us. Prototype robots are folding and putting clothes away. 3D printers are making estates, and we can accomplish a lot just by speaking out loud to Siri or Alexa, and the list goes on. Now, the problem with all this in today's world is that it takes feats of technological gymnastics to get Siri to talk to my Ring Doorbell camera, or to get Alexa to control my Nest thermostat. They simply don't speak the same language, and as much as the hacker in me enjoyed putting the pieces together, this situation may all be coming to an end soon with the release of the Matter specification. On this episode of The Tech Between Us, we are joined by guest Chris LaPré, Chief Technical Officer at the Connectivity Standards Alliance, to talk about this one protocol to unite them all.
