This is a very different episode, as I am my own guest.
The Tingle Zone is going to have a bit of a break as I am currently refocussing my efforts on a very specific market, those who are Child-Free.
The basic principle stand the same - in terms of finding your Purpose and what it is that makes your bits tingle - but as family is often cited as the reason for so many, there is a different nuance when it comes to those who - like me - don't have children.
For my loyal listeners I therefore share with you the audio version of a chapter I contributed to the International Bestselling Book - Transforming Your Life - Vol III
In it, I share my background, my journey and how I came to uncovering my Purpose.
This is only for my subscribers - I won't be promoting the episode as most people have to pay to access the book or the recording - so it's a little Easter Egg as my gift to you for staying with me on this journey.
Do keep an eye on my Linkedin Profile to see what events are coming up and I hope to be back with you soon.
But for now, sit back, relax - think about what makes your bits tingle, and most of all, enjoy!
In this episode, I'm talking with Marcio Santos who shares his incredible journey from leaving his agency to becoming a digital marketing expert.
Marcio takes us on a captivating ride, revealing how he discovered his true passion for SEO and his remarkable experiences working with both larger companies and smaller individual entrepreneurs.
But there's more to this story than just professional success. Marcio opens up about the transformative power of working one-on-one with clients and the unique challenges he faced when his mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
In our conversation, we cover such topics as:
the importance of continuous learning and incremental improvement in marketing;
the significance of understanding human behaviour and leveraging counterintuitive ideas to drive business growth; and
the importance of aligning one's actions with what truly matters
We also explore how people-pleasing can hinder personal growth and prevent individuals from taking necessary actions

In this episode, I'm talking with Michael de Groot who helps businesses tell better stories about themselves, frequently through images and animation.
Part Dutch, part Indian and raised in Suriname, Michael had an interesting upbringing along with adventures in many different ventures. All the different strands of Michael's life come together at the end to where we find him today as a confident creator.
In our conversation, we cover a number of topics, including:
what happens to others when you tell your story;
an insight into the drip-drip effect of advertising; and
the four key things that every story has to have in it.
What is particularly interesting is that, in terms of basic structure, we all have the same story. The nuances may shift but the essence is the same for everyone – and this is why we identify so much with books, films and the power of story.

In this episode, I'm talking with Le-an Lai Lacaba, a Virtual Assistant Coach and founder of 2xYou, a remote executive assistant service company.
Le-an uses her expertise to help overwhelmed business owners delegate tasks and streamline processes. However, our conversation quickly turns personal as Le-an shares her own experiences of overwhelm, including her battle with depression and anxiety spinning out of a near death experience, and the coping strategies she learned along the way.
In our conversation, we cover such points as:
how to talk to your inner voice;
the biggest challenges entrepreneurs face around delegation; and
when to say No.
Le-an's life now is one filled with novelty, passion and curiosity and she is keen to see others have that same joy in life and business.

In this episode, I'm talking with Michael Seaver, an executive coach, leadership consultant, author and public speaker who focuses on unlocking human potential, helping you uncover your most authentic self and define your life's purpose.
Raised on a farm in a small town in Michigan, Michael started working in the family business at the age of 12. When he got married and moved away to Arizona it certainly helped him to broaden his horizons and develop plenty of business and people skills, but also set him up with a number of challenges and created a lot of stress.
Eventually, when his marriage fell apart, Michael went through a state of despair and depression to the point that he was giving serious consideration as to why he was on this planet.
However, a bizarre event involving his cat, Cleopatra, helped him to turn his whole life around, setting him on his journey to understand potential and purpose.
In our conversation, we cover such topics as:
how we can take our darkest moments and turn them into opportunities for growth;
how being still and trusting in yourself will lead you to the answers you seek; and
why stepping into nature can instantly reduce stress and anxiety.
Ultimately, the secret to happiness and a life of joy is about becoming the person that you needed when you were younger.

With a focus on soft skills such as emotional intelligence and self-leadership, Gemma helps individuals lead their lives effectively and authentically. Whether one aims to become a manager in the workplace or start a family, Gemma's training and coaching provide a grounded sense of self-awareness.
Having worked in education and found herself in a toxic work environment, Gemma realised there was a better way of doing things and set off on her own to make the world a better place.
In our conversation, we cover such topics as:
the challenges of starting a business;
the importance of saying 'No' to clients; and
the power of self-awareness and self-reflection.
Gemma's passion for helping individuals improve their emotional intelligence, leadership skills and well-being shines through in this episode.

In our conversation, we discuss such matters as:
the difference between coaching and consulting;
the challenges of managing burnout and staff turnover; and
how processes and policies can actually hinder success.
At the end of the day, success is achieved by ensuring compassion and empathy run throughout the business culture - which results in better employee attraction and retention, greater levels of innovation and better customer service.

In this episode, I'm talking with Cathy Nesbitt who has a number of strings to her bow, including worm farmer, mung bean sprout advocate and laughter yoga practitioner.
Cathy spent much of her corporate life working as a secretary for a number of different companies and came to realise that, if you don't like what you're doing – move. Serendipity stepped in and a combination of a bizarre request from a teacher friend and an advert for a business development course opened up a whole can of worms – pun deliberately intended.
In our interview we cover a whole range of things including:
- the amazing environmental benefits of keeping worms;
- how to recover from traumatic experiences; and
- navigating life as an 'over-sensitive' person.
Throughout it all is a love of life and the benefits of having a dose of laughter alongside everything you do.

In this episode, I'm talking with Louis Barnett from Ikigai Studio, a marketing consultancy that likes to do things differently.
In fact, Louis has always done things differently. At a very young age he developed an interest in making truffles and chocolates and set up his own business selling them to local shops. Word of mouth got him in front of the big boys and he found himself supplying the likes of Waitrose and Sainsbury's when he was still only 13 years old!!
Along the way he realised the power of innovation when a mentor asked him the key question. Have you ever cooked spaghetti in apple juice? From that conversation he realised that the old ways are not the only ways and that anything you can think of is worth trying.
The unique branding and marketing he was employing in his own business then became noticed by others and now he focuses purely on creating innovative and distinctive marketing campaigns for other organisations.
In our conversation we cover such topics as:
why patience is the most useful attribute of an entrepreneur;
the importance of getting to know people at a deeper level and fast; and
why perfecting your marketing campaign can actually be detrimental to you.
Ultimately, the main thing is to remember that you're always dealing with people and so keep it human at all times.

In this episode, I'm talking with Luke Hohmann, founder and CEO of First Root, a company dedicated to helping improve the financial literacy taught in schools and getting children used to handling money – by giving them money to handle.
Luke originally founded a software company that created a program on which you could run Participatory Budgeting, a collaborative process used by global brands and major cities to manage the finances of large projects.
Luke realised that, if we wanted to create a better society for ourselves and our children, then these key lessons should be taught at school. As well as getting used to making financial decisions, the children learn what a good citizen looks like and how they can positively contribute to a community.
In our conversation, we cover such topics as:
how to run a participatory budgetary process, which teaches the value of money and accountability for decisions made;
the 4Cs of 21st Century Education (Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication and Collaboration) ; and
how this all fits into a business context.
At the end of the day, if we can all learn how to work together with something as emotive as money, we can work together on anything.

In this episode, I'm talking with Axel Meierhoefer, a property and real estate investor and mentor, who helps others find the fastest route to their Time Freedom Point.
Axel used to be a test pilot, initially for the German Air Force and then seconded to the US where he ended up staying once he retired from the military. All the time he was paying attention to what 'successful' people did with their money, which led him to becoming interested in property investment.
Using his natural skills of learning, process development and application, he found a way to make it work for him and he's now taken those learnings and looks to help others make it work for them too.
In our conversation, we cover such topics as:
why the search for expert help can be compared to a scientific experiment;
the importance of making all of your property investments a turn-key operation; and
why the Time Freedom Point is only the start of your real journey.
At the end of the day, becoming financially free is not a matter of luck, but a deliberate strategy that is diligently pursued.

In this episode, I'm talking with Charles Read of GetPayroll, who is a specialist in providing payroll services – although he started life as a US Marine, including serving in Vietnam.
This interview has actually been quite hard to summarise.
First of all, it's not about payroll. Yes, it gets mentioned, obviously, but the payroll business is just the context for the learnings to come.
Within that specific space, the conversation does cover such topics as marketing, differentiating and niching – and how it's set up so that every day there is an accomplishment. A success.
Then there's the element that explores the transferable skills that come from a military background and can be applied in business.
Planning, discipline, teamwork, motivational skills and, of course, the desire to accomplish the mission at all costs.
In fact, you effectively learn the key steps to enable you to make your business a well-oiled machine.
However, hidden within this business context, there actually runs a very moving love story. Charles opens up about some very personal matters and we get to see what a business can really be about.
More than just systems and processes and results, but also a family, a support system and even a lifeline in times of need.
Any summary I come up with feels like an injustice to the impact of this interview and the quality and quantity of the learnings you will receive.
All I can do is ask you to take the time and make sure you listen to it all.

In this episode, I'm talking with Alexis Haselberger who is a time management and productivity coach.
Alexis has always been focused on getting as much done with as little effort as possible. Lazy, one might say (and she does), but in a way that is actually a superpower. Without actually realising she had any special talent, it required her boss to come up to her and say “Can you run a workshop and show everyone else how you do what you do?” and from there, a new career was born.
In our conversation, we cover topics such as:
- how to start a new business when you've no idea what you're doing;
- why focus is not your starting point when it comes to being effective; and
- the importance of expending energy only on the things you can control.At the end of the day, it's all about doing more with less stress.

In this episode, I'm talking with Ash Shah, MD of World Products, an e-commerce consultancy working with healthcare companies to make sure their message and products get out to the world via the latest technological platforms.
Ash's introduction into business was helping his mother one summer, with a venture that was literally run out of their garage. It went so well that he ended up working there permanently and, over time, he realised that there was much more to be made out of online selling. Over the next couple of years, he turned this garage business into one with a turnover of over £2m. (UPDATE - since our recording, the business is now turning over £8m per annum)
Seeing that he was pretty good at this e-commerce stuff, he then started doing it for other people. Not bad, bearing in mind that he's still only 27 (26 at the time of recording).
In our conversation, we cover such topics as:- the importance of just going out there and trying things
- how we only really see the successes of others without appreciating the work that's gone on before; and
- the importance of the abundant mindset
All in all, this is a great conversation around focus, good habits and positive mindsets.

In this episode, I'm talking with Mark Herschberg who is an expert in Career Skills, as well as working part-time as a Technical Director for numerous companies and as a lecturer at MIT.
Mark started as a software engineer during the Dot Com era and knew that he wanted to be a technical director in a company – but came to realise that, in order to do so, he also had to become accomplished in leadership and team building skills too.
During our conversation, we cover such topics as:
- the importance of communication at all levels of an organisation;
- how to enjoy networking events; and
- why focussing on just one area of expertise may not be the best idea.
Overall, Mark gives us a masterclass in finding a direction and building all the skills and experience that you need to get to where you want to be.

In this episode, I'm talking with Rick Terrien, a lifelong entrepreneur whose current focus is the creation of a non-profit organisation - The Center for Ageless Entrepreneurs.
Rick has entrepreneurship in his blood although, as he says, that wasn't a word he used when he first started, which was at the age of 15. His first proper business was started out of his dorm room at college, which he then sold when he was 25. He even designed his course at university around his desire to boost his entrepreneurship journey
When he sold his next business, he was 45 and realised that things had changed. He found that he was being dismissed merely because of his age. It seemed incredible to him that businesses and society were ignoring these people who all held two massive assets.
Experience and networks
Things have changed in recent years but still not enough. Did you know that the majority of startups in the last couple of years have been launched by people who are over 45 – and yet most of the support is targeted at those who are around 20?
Rick put his learnings down into a book entitled “Ageless Startup: Start a Business at Any Age” and launched the aforementioned centre to give support and opportunities to those who are in their 'Apex Years'.
In our conversation, we cover such topics as:
1) the importance of being a small business owner in today's society;
2) where to look for a business idea; and
3) why there's nothing wrong with staying small
He also shares the concept of phased retirement, where companies collaborate with those approaching the later years to start up a new business and benefit from the wisdom they gain in the process.

In this episode, I'm talking with Laurent Notin, who is an entrepreneur coach and start-up mentor.
Originally from France, Laurent moved out to Laos and Cambodia, developing his question-asking skills as a Market Researcher and then his business skills when he was asked to run the whole Laotian agency.
Many years later, Laurent now finds himself in Helsinki and is dedicated to helping small business owners and entrepreneurs get the best chance in their business life. Usually by helping them get out of their own way.
In our conversation, we cover such subjects as:
How to Create Great Questions;
The Different Types of Entrepreneurs;
The 4 Stages of Entrepreneurship; and
The Power of Feeling Stupid
He also shares his love for Cross-Fit and how it helped him to recover from a period of extreme burnout.

In this episode, I'm talking with El Edwards - who is building a community dedicated to enabling you to smile more and be more 'you' – or 'Youier'.
Brought up in a strong evangelical Christian environment, she was taught from an early age to fear God. El strived to be perfect in every way - the perfect Christian, the perfect wife, the perfect mother. Eventually, she realised that trying to be 'normal' was making her crazy and that something had to change.
El started to build new relationships with her faith and herself and recognised that love is at the heart of everything, including all the flaws and imperfections. Now she helps others to do the same.
This is a joyous discussion where we explore El's journey and beliefs – hopping from one tangent to another, but always getting back to the same message.
We don't need to know exactly where we're going, but if we trust the ripples and follow the nudges – all the time with love in our hearts – then we'll get to where we need to be.
Which actually sums up the conversation itself quite nicely.
Amongst the many things we discuss are topics such as:
using stories to deliver your message so that people don't get hung up on specific details;
the differences between faith, religion and organised religions; and
the many similarities there are between supposedly opposing belief systems.
And the biggest topic of all is, of course, the importance of being you.

In this episode, I'm talking with Holly Woods PhD, founder of the Emergence Institute and author of The Golden Thread – Where to Find PURPOSE in the Stages of Your Life.
From a traumatic childhood through to academic excellence, Holly has spent most of her life digging deep to understand why she is here on this planet and helping others to understand what their Precise Purpose is.
In a nutshell, how to be more of who you are and less of who you are not.
This is a great and insightful conversation about the deeper concepts of Purpose and it was wonderful to have a guest that is so similar to me in terms of viewpoint but coming at it from her own direction and with a different set of skills and experiences.
In our conversation, we cover subjects such as:
- how your values integrate with the laws of society;
- why the definition and current attitudes towards Purpose are unclear and continue to shift; and
- how humanity is in the process of moving through to the next level of evolutionary change.
This interview is what The Tingle Zone is all about and gets down to what is at the heart of Business Enjoyment, so make sure you tune in.

In this episode, I'm talking with Devin Miller who is a serial entrepreneur, with businesses ranging from a law firm specialising in Intellectual Property to a hydration monitoring smartwatch that helps people with diabetes.
Growing up in an entrepreneurial environment, Devin always had an interest in business. He focussed on getting educated in the first instance, to help him move into that space and then entered a local business competition, which became the catalyst for his first venture.
Overall, he is passionate about small businesses and startups and is frequently approached by other ventures for advice or mentoring – including getting involved on a more hands-on basis.
In our conversation, we cover such topics as:
- how to get stuff done when there's so much to do;
- where to look for the next business opportunity; and
- the fundamental characteristic that separates the successful entrepreneur from the rest.
As a general overview, it becomes clear in our conversation that there is no ONE WAY to run a business. You have to take the learnings that you can and then craft those learnings for your own venture.
In other words, how do you be successful? It depends!
