Description

Songs have the power to shape who we are and what we are inspired to create.

Featuring all of our band members(eventually...), as well as some exciting guests from across the music world "THE TRACKS THAT MADE US" is a deep-dive into the songs and artists that have shaped our sound and formed who we are!

As proud music geeks, we pack the show with obscure trivia, unexpected links to artists, and always a reference to KISS - The hottest band in the world!

We finish every show with a cover/collaboration of the episode's track which can always be found with a full video on our YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRKRVXdzI7eAmIsY0y-LA-A

Okay, so it has been a while, but it is finally here; episode ten of THE TRACKS THAT MADE US. In this episode Drew and Rod go back to basics and return the show's formula to how it all started; two guys from the band Just A Ride having a good old chinwag about one of their favourite songs and the impact it has had on them as songwriters. The song is Running Away, the band is Hoobastank and this is one of THE TRACKS THAT MADE US.
We've been busy boys so our TRACKS THAT MADE US output has been a little slow, but we are back with a brand new episode! Our friends ALTER APEX join us after collaborating on a cover of DEAD & BLOATED by the incredible STONE TEMPLE PILOTS. Both bands have been inspired hugely by the group that often polarise lovers of grunge. In our talk, we cover the pros and cons of Spotify for new artists, the impact of STP, and what the future has in store for both bands. After a little break, we are back with another episode of THE TRACKS THAT MADE US! In this episode, we talk about all things INCUBUS with the Philippines-based artist Kevin Edward. Kevin originally hails from New Jersey, growing up with influences from the emerging emo-rock scene. Now based in the Philippines he records music and performs regularly on Twitch on a bit of an island paradise. Drive is a song that many would say is Incubus' defining track, and certainly the song that catapulted them onto the world stage. We talk about how we discovered this amazing band and the evolution of their sound over a distinguished career. We hope you enjoy the chat and our take on this classic song. Stay safe and ROCK ON... Were you Blur or Oasis? No fence-sitting...you have to choose! We are joined by Christian Holl Buhl of DEAD STAR TALK to discuss all things Britpop and the legacy the scene has left behind. Our conversation winds around the change in the music industry over the last 20 years, the changing environment for music collectors, and how the 2020 pandemic has reawoken a generation of creatives who might've otherwise given up. We finish the show with our take on the OASIS track ACQUIESCE; a B-side from their What's the Story sessions and later lead single from the compilation album The Masterplan. Hope you enjoy our collab and all of our talk! Stay safe and ROCK ON... On this episode of THE TRACKS THAT MADE US we are joined by the supremely talented Chirs Im, of THE MAYBLUES, to talk about the amazing DO I WANNA KNOW by ARCTIC MONKEYS. We go in deep on all things grunge, indie rock, Yorkshire slang, and the importance of a good flannel shirt to an aspiring rock artist! We really enjoyed connecting with Chris to collab on an amazing cover (stay tuned to the end for that) and would urge anybody who hasn't had a listen to his band to stop what they are doing immediately and give them a listen. Enjoy the chat, stick around for the tune, stay safe, and ROCK ON! So it's time for another episode of THE TRACKS THAT MADE US and we've got a great show for you! We are joined by our new friends from San Deigo's FAIRPLAY; Will Lopez, and Jules Whelpton to discuss the song SLITHER by VELVET REVOLVER and the impact it has had on us. Together with Rod and Drew the discussion veers into many different subjects, namely the tragic death of Scott Weiland, the realisation that bands from our teenage years have become today's classic rock, why the grunge scene came and went so quickly, and which solo is Slash's best? As usual, we end the episode with a cover of the track and for the first time, we have been able to collaborate with an overseas band for the first time. A big thanks need to go out to the FAIRPLAY gang for the amazing tracks they laid down. It is so awesome to be able to bring us together on the screen having had so much fun on this collaboration. Hope you enjoy the episode! Stay safe and ROCK ON! FOLLOW FAIRPLAY ON https://www.instagram.com/fairplaysd/ (INSTAGRAM) AND https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGG3n5MRSVhA9WplNbVKgtw (YOUTUBE)

NIKKI SMASH

As always THE TRACKS THAT MADE US explores the impact a song has had on our lives and our musical direction. In this episode, we are joined by the incredible NIKKI SMASH (Rocket Dolls Frontman and Founder of Smash PR) to talk about the amazing song TOMORROW by SILVERCHAIR. Unfortunately, we have all been super busy and unable to finish our cover, but we enjoyed our conversation so much that we thought it would be worth sharing sooner rather than later. The three of us discuss the pressures that Daniel Johns, in particular, has faced in his career and the role mental health has on musicians everywhere. NIKKI is currently working on a new project, HOW TO DISAPPEAR AND NEVER BE FOUND, which you can find out more about and support https://howtodisappearandneverbefound.bigcartel.com/ (HERE) or on his https://www.patreon.com/nikkismashofficial (Patreon). We hope you enjoy this episode and stay tuned for more talk and cover collaborations soon! Stay Safe and ROCK ON!
THE TRACKS THAT MADE US is back again and for the first time with a special guest; Drew and Rod's old Violent Delight bandmate Ben Macrow! Ben has recently reconnected with music and has gone back to his electro roots and love of classic drum machines. You can check out his awesome YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCY964Nu1LoVhWm_Ph4eY8Uw (HERE)! In Episode 3 we go head-long into the depths of our music-geek trivia to pay homage to possibly the greatest musician that ever lived, Prince. Culminating in our collaborative cover of the I WOULD DIE 4 U from the seminal album PURPLE RAIN our conversation moves in and out of the mystique around THE ARTIST and meanders through the dynasty f The Jackson's, the early 90s lull in Mark Hamil's acting career, Rod's love of the 80s, the funny side of getting dropped from your record label and Ben's ill-judged antics at the Kerrang awards. Be sure to check out our video tribute to THE PURPLE ONE which is now streaming on YOUTUBE. In episode 2 of THE TRACKS THAT MADE US, lead singer Rod and bassist Russ talk about the music of The Smashing Pumpkins and how they helped to shape the sound of Just A Ride. Are concept albums really necessary, do their stories ever really make sense and do fans even realise they are concept albums in the first place...? All of this and more awaits! Every episode ends with a cover and if you want to see the awesome video for the track you can find it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUwEp2IjmQM (HERE) Enjoy the show and let us know which tracks have helped shape your journey through life on our https://www.facebook.com/justaridepage (Facebook) and https://www.instagram.com/justarideband/ (Instagram)!
THE TRACKS THAT MADE US explores the songs that have helped form the musical style of UK alternative rock band JUST A RIDE. Episode 1 kicks off with an amazing song from the late, great, Chris Cornell. Taken from his solo debut album, "Euphoria Morning" has certainly had an impact on Drew and Rod, with the track being their first exposure to Chris' work leading them to become huge fans of Soundgarden. The lad's discussion goes off-piste at times, covering the drumming career of Josh Freese, the enigmatic presence of Alain Johannes across all of our favourite records, and some pretty strong opinions on whether or not supergroups really are as super as they're cracked up to be. We finish every episode with a cover and if the sound isn't enough you can see our handsome mugs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUwEp2IjmQM (HERE) Enjoy the show and let us know which tracks have helped shape your journey through life on our https://www.facebook.com/justaridepage (Facebook) and https://www.instagram.com/justarideband/ (Instagram)!
