Description

Self-Care is an area we tend to discount - we believe doing things for ourselves that require time and commitment are luxuries and indulgences which are considered excessive, when it's the ONE THING that can change the game for us in every aspect of our lives.

So many things can constitute self-care and everything we do for us is a journey. It's not a one size fits all approach so what works for one person may not work for someone else. Each day we not only learn more about ourselves, but we evolve more into the ultimate creations we are intended to be. When we say yes to us, it's all possible.

Tune in each week for real talk about all aspects of self-care: health, fitness, spirituality and mindfulness, travel and leisure, and a whole lot more. Get on your journey of self-care with me and we'll travel the road together.

This episode is from one of our listeners as she shares her story and as an entrepreneur, I have shared in this space about my own personal journey in self care and my tendency to work more and pay less attention to myself--even as a fitness professional. We are our own worst critics--and we never work harder and more spirited than when we report to ourselves. My guest is a fellow entrepreneur and coach--Marsha Gleit -- who found her way to a better version of herself after getting burned out in the corporate world. We talk about her health scares, and what her wake up call was to pay more attention to herself, and how she frames making the small changes big habits. We often say ‘someday, I will do better’.  Marsha says --Today is your someday. Will you make it yours?Listen in for some easy manageable tips on making today that someday you desire.GUEST LINKS:Grab Marsha’s free gift here: mymoodzone.com Marsha’s website: burgeoncoaching.comSHOW WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:www.cufitness.comJoin my signature online 6 step Fit Life system Program:https://cufitness.thinkific.com/courses/functional-fitness-live-for-you-sept-2020Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/alison.h.katschkowsky?ref=bookmarksJoin my Facebook Community:  LIving your Ultimate Life through Fitness and Self Carehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/743439322342659/Check out our retreats! www.cufitnessretreats.comInstagram:  @fitstylegalTwitter:  @ahkats See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
So what really IS the best way to approach fitness and activity? If you google that, you’ll get THOUSANDS of ideas likely. And since we are in the LAST quarter of the year, you may be wondering if reaching your fitness goals is even still possible, with the holidays arriving in a little over 2 months time.So much of our energy goes to the thought around ‘we don’t have time’. What’s really beneath that is what is keeping us from working fitness and activity into our day to day lives. This episode continues my take on what ‘functional fitness’ really  means and leaves you with 4 useful thoughts to keep you moving.SHOW WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:www.cufitness.comJoin my signature online 6 step Fit Life system Program:https://cufitness.thinkific.com/courses/functional-fitness-live-for-you-sept-2020Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/alison.h.katschkowsky?ref=bookmarksJoin my Facebook Community:  LIving your Ultimate Life through Fitness and Self Carehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/743439322342659/Check out our retreats!  www.cufitnessretreats.comInstagram:  @fitstylegalTwitter:  @ahkats See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
‘Functional Fitness’ is a term that’s used a lot these days. Function IS purpose--and purpose IS what we do in our daily lives. And when we use the same moves we do in our daily lives for our fitness plans--we make it an EASY way to do us. The whole dilemma of it being ‘ too hard’ is solved. In this episode, I explain my take on what functional fitness is, how I teach it, and how it is THE answer to all you do in your own training.  I offer three tips to think about to help you solve the problem of not having time to do a workout, and sticking with it. It IS the answer to your busy, overscheduled life. And It’s what we teach.GUEST LINKS:SHOW WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:www.cufitness.comJoin my signature online 6 step Fit Life system Program:  https://cufitness.thinkific.com/courses/functional-fitness-live-for-you-sept-2020Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/alison.h.katschkowsky?ref=bookmarksJoin my Facebook Community:  LIving your Ultimate Life through Fitness and Self Carehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/743439322342659/Check out our retreats!  www.cufitnessretreats.comInstagram:  @fitstylegalTwitter:  @ahkats See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Did you know there are ‘seasons of connection’ when it comes to self care?Like the weather, seasons can signify a new start, a time to rest, a time to protect and a time to rejuvenate. How we do us is in a sense like a cycle of seasons. This episode is a closer look at a unique way of examining where your own self care is high and yet where it needs attention. My guest is Leanne Kabot, a national writer, author and speaker--and the founder of the ‘5 Seasons of Connection’. In our conversation we touch on the power of our awareness, and how our thoughts and actions drive our choices regarding self care, and some easy strategies on where you can identify what areas you should focus on.GUEST LINKS:Leanne’s website:  https://5seasonslife.com/Leanne’s Linked In Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/leannekabat/Leanne’s Amazon link:   https://www.amazon.com/author/leannekabatSHOW WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:www.cufitness.comJoin my signature online 6 step Fit Life system Program:https://cufitness.thinkific.com/courses/functional-fitness-live-for-you-july-2020Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/alison.h.katschkowsky?ref=bookmarksJoin my Facebook Community:  LIving your Ultimate Life through Fitness and Self Carehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/743439322342659/Check out our retreats!  www.cufitnessretreats.comInstagram:  @fitstylegalTwitter:  @ahkats See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
This episode features someone from our audience that reached out and wanted to share her story. For so many people, fitness itself is what teaches us HOW not just to do US better, but HOW to live our lives better. It could be showing you a better way forward, or simply giving you a new idea or solution to a problem. And it more often than not, helps you strengthen your confidence AND your resolve to KEEP GOING.Hear Felicia Sanders’ story from how she came to the US as child, to how she signed up for a tough race without knowing the first thing about it to how she views facing difficult challenges today as a wife and mom, and prioritizing her self care in all of that.  It’s a story worth hearing.  Listen in as she drops several nuggets about forgiving yourself, being able to make time for yourself daily in different ways and still being the person you want to be.GUEST LINKS: Felicia’s site:  https://campsatsea.com/LInk to get Felicia’s book--’The Sunflower’ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FYNXDVKFelicia’s Instagram:  @campsatsea2, and @tripitlikeyoumeanitFelicia’s Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/campsatsea AND https://www.facebook.com/tripitlikeyoumeanitSHOW WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:www.cufitness.comJoin our FREE online event--happening this week! The Fit LIfe Master Class!  https://cufitness.com/masterclasssept2020Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/alison.h.katschkowsky?ref=bookmarksJoin my Facebook Community:  LIving your Ultimate Life through Fitness and Self Carehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/743439322342659/Check out our retreats!  www.cufitnessretreats.comInstagram:  @fitstylegal See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Did you know that you can strength train from the inside? Yep, even around your pelvic floor and bladder!Honest question----ever laugh really hard and suddenly feel like you are about to pee in your pants? What about sneezing? Don’t laugh, but there IS a training for that. Look, as we get older we literally need to think about HOW we train HOW our body works, as well as training our muscles and just moving our body.Aging just makes that a reality. My guest calls herself a pelvic floor strength coach and specifically has programs and ideas for HOW you can take care of that embarrassing feeling of losing control of your bladder.  And it’s really simple.  Listen as Jennifer Penney shares valuable info for all of us--we CAN get over accidentally peeing in our pants!GUEST LINKS:  Jennifer’s website:  ABCSTronger.comSHOW WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:www.cufitness.comJoin my FREE FIT LIFE MASTER CLASS--starting on September 21st!https://cufitness.com/masterclasssept2020Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/alison.h.katschkowsky?ref=bookmarksJoin my Facebook Community:  LIving your Ultimate Life through Fitness and Self Carehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/743439322342659/Check out our retreats!  www.cufitnessretreats.comInstagram:  @fitstylegalTwitter:  @ahkats See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Sleep and dreams can tell us a lot about ourselves, and what we are either facing, or what we have in our subconscious mind. Dream experts have said for years that a lot of the kinds of dreams we have are indicative and reflective of challenges and problems we are facing in our own lives in disguise.Holly Emmerson is a Dream Oracle, and has an amazing ability to connect with spirits in the dream world for her clients--and in so doing, she is able to help get answers and solutions for her clients. We often see ‘messages’ in our thoughts and in our dreams that can help us solve problems and come up with answers to challenges we have in our lives. One area of self care that can be a game changer for us is having a ‘bedtime’ routine, much like a morning routine. Like a workout, there is a need to really ‘exercise’ the sleep and dream muscles so they can help you in life.Listen in to my chat with Holly about some simple tips to help you maximize your bedtime and sleep routine.GUEST LINKS:  https://hollyemmerson.com/Holly’s IG:  @dreamoracleHollyYouTube:  @Dream Oracle HollySHOW WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:www.cufitness.comJoin my signature online 6 step Fit Life system Program:https://cufitness.thinkific.com/courses/functional-fitness-live-for-you-july-2020Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/alison.h.katschkowsky?ref=bookmarksJoin my Facebook Community:  LIving your Ultimate Life through Fitness and Self Carehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/743439322342659/Check out our retreats!  www.cufitnessretreats.comInstagram:  @fitstylegalTwitter:  @ahkats See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Shame and Self-Care

2020-09-0233:291

Do you ever blame yourself for what you THINK you should have done differently? This often presents itself in the form of negative self talk and our mind listens to it. It’s called SHAME and it's a human condition--which often shows up in the other areas of our lives to keep us from reaching our goals.Listen in to my candid conversation with my guest about not only what SHAME is, but HOW it can either hold us back, or help us decide to break the stranglehold it has on us and how we make our choices.Allyson Roberts is a therapist and national expert on the concept of SHAME and all it’s components.  In our conversation she drops many golden nuggets of wisdom which you can use to help reprogram your thoughts and how you move forward.Self care IS what we do to look after ourselves best.  Don’t let Shame get in the way.GUEST LINKS:Alyson’s Facebook Group:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/117133155144213/Allyson’s website:  www.allysonroberts.comSHOW WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:www.cufitness.comFacebook:  https://www.facebook.com/alison.h.katschkowsky?ref=bookmarksJoin my Facebook Community:  LIving your Ultimate Life through Fitness and Self Carehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/743439322342659/Check out our retreats!  www.cufitnessretreats.comInstagram:  @fitstylegalTwitter:  @ahkats See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Do you ever stop and pay attention to your thoughts? Like really pay attention to them?We think in excess of 50,000 thoughts in one day easily--the majority of them are either similar or repetitive. And some we don’t even remember (obviously). And like how we teach in a fitness program, the goal is to get efficient and effective at what you do WELL so you can see benefit. This in turn saves you time, energy and produces the results you want. This is most definitely the outcome you want for mindset management--a tried and true plan for managing your thoughts, being curious about them and a plan to ‘sort and file’ them so you can continue to make decisions that serve you is KEY not just for moving your forward, but for keeping you in a place that serves you.My guest is Liz Nicklas--and she is a master mindset coach, and is one of the coaches in my mastermind program. Hormones are responsible for EVERYTHING that happens in our bodies--from weight loss, to metabolism, to sleep and rest, exercise and more. And no matter what we do, our hormones have an answer for it.This episode is a chat with a colleague of mine in the coaching space (and also my mastermind partner too)--Dana Dinnawi, who has built her online health coaching practice on educating women on how to reset their hormones naturally.  We talk about the problems that we notice in our bodies that cause us to revert to extreme diets, crazy workout plans and restrictive eating so we can achieve a certain result. There IS a better way--and it’s all tied in to HOW you do you.  Dana drops many golden nuggets--and some insight into some of what she is working on.GUEST LINKS:Dana’s Facebook Community:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/balanceyourhormoneswithdana/The Hormone Inner Circle Membership:  http://danadinnawi.com/inner-circle/?fbclid=IwAR0pgs67ymbbEOk8WdUcAxKJZ8fLcjbOvENnrmYBeoDuF6DGYpsD-44MMZMSHOW WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:www.cufitness.comJoin my signature online 6 step Fit Life system Program:https://cufitness.thinkific.com/courses/functional-fitness-live-for-you-july-2020New Easy Immunity 3 step program--only $77! https://cufitness.thinkific.com/courses/easy-immunityFacebook:  https://www.facebook.com/alison.h.katschkowsky?ref=bookmarksJoin my Facebook Community:  LIving your Ultimate Life through Fitness and Self Carehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/743439322342659/Check out our retreats!  www.cufitnessretreats.comInstagram:  @fitstylegalTwitter:  @ahkats See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
I recently had the privilege of interviewing national mindfulness coach, podcast host and certified trauma and addiction professional Riane Milne and our chat was eye opening on many levels. How often do we get stuck in our current patterns based on where we have been in the past?  Our past experiences largely shape our mindset and beliefs and can either be a teacher to us, or hold us back. We teach that your past is a neutral circumstance--meaning we can’t do anything about it--it has already happened.  What we do have COMPLETE control over is HOW we move forward--often that means understanding the thought patterns and beliefs that come from HOW we have lived.Listen in to my candid conversation with Riane as she drops MANY nuggets of how we can put our past behind us and move forward towards a positive mindset for love, success and the BEST version of ourselves.  Listen in for the ‘7 D’s’ as a path forward.GUEST LINKS:https://rianamilne.com/Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/CoachRianaMilnePodcast:  https://www.LessonsinLifeandLove.comSHOW WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:www.cufitness.comJoin my signature online 6 step Fit Life system Program:https://cufitness.thinkific.com/courses/functional-fitness-live-for-you-july-2020Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/alison.h.katschkowsky?ref=bookmarksJoin my Facebook Community:  LIving your Ultimate Life through Fitness and Self Carehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/743439322342659/Check out our retreats!  www.cufitnessretreats.comInstagram:  @fitstylegalTwitter:  @ahkats See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Ever wonder about which supplements and products are worth investing in?I get asked all the time questions like ‘what should I buy at WholeFoods’ or ‘Which vitamins are the best? And the truth is that a lot of what is on the market is not worth the packaging it comes in.We want quick fixes as a society--and if we think something will be too hard or too lengthy to do, we want an easier way. There is no fast track to success for us--especially when it comes to our fitness and our self care--and the BASICS are what work--that is why they are called the BASICS.This episode is some insight into WHAT actually works--and what doesn’t. Tune in for my chat with national expert and reviewer of all supplements, and owner of SupplmentClarity.com--Joe Cannon--for ‘Fitness talk over 50’.  Even if you are not getting older (yet)--this chat is a good one.GUEST LINKS:Joe Cannon’s website: www.Joe-Cannon.comOwner of www.SupplementClarity.comSHOW WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:www.cufitness.comOpt in for my FREE FIT LIFE MASTER CLASS:  https://cufitnessretreats.com/fit-life-masterclass-july-2020/Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/alison.h.katschkowsky?ref=bookmarksJoin my Facebook Community:  LIving your Ultimate Life through Fitness and Self Carehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/743439322342659/Check out our retreats!  www.cufitnessretreats.comInstagram:  @fitstylegalTwitter:  @ahkats See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Since #covid19 became part of all our lives 3-3.5 months ago, there has been INFINITE talk about safety and protection in the battle against disease and illness.Very little of this discussion has centered around our front line of defense--our immune system. And probably the BEST WAY to help strengthen your immune system is a daily regimen of functional activity, energy eating and developing skills to help you manage your mindset.Moving our bodies helps us produce hormones that help TURN UP how white blood cells fight off disease in addition to helping our stress hormones work WITH us, rather than against us.Activity and a strategy for energy eating helps our bodies flush out toxins, which can weaken how we respond to fighting disease AND what makes us anxious as a result.Functional day to day activity helps our bodies make more antibodies, which help us to FUNCTION better in our day to day lives in general.  As a fitness professional for the last 30 years, I am on a mission to help change the perception of not just WHY a FIT LIFE is critical for change, but HOW it can literally SAVE your life. It’s the best defense we have.SHOW WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:www.cufitness.comOpt in for my FREE FIT LIFE MASTER CLASS:  https://cufitnessretreats.com/fit-life-masterclass-july-2020/Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/alison.h.katschkowsky?ref=bookmarksJoin my Facebook Community:  LIving your Ultimate Life through Fitness and Self Carehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/743439322342659/Check out our retreats!  www.cufitnessretreats.comInstagram:  @fitstylegalTwitter:  @ahkats See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
