Description

The Unified Republic of Stars is a collaborative science-fiction story world in which almost any kind of story can be set. And, like any good story world, it has a history with important characters that help define what it is and where it's going. Join host and world creator Colin Andrew Ferm each week as he shares this story background and the remarkable people that inhabit it.

Over the course of this podcast, intricate details of the world--from how it branched off from our current timeline into its own to the various ships, weapons, cities, and cultures came to inhabit it--will be discussed. And, as we go deeper into each topic, the world itself will become a story so engrossing you might think of your own contributions along the way.

If you're a fan of sci-fi, space, a dash of politics, and a slew of wild adventures, subscribe to receive a new episode each week!

It's finally happened. We've launched our podcast. Tune in to listen to a weekly discussion about the events and people that thrive in the story world.
Episode 1.1, a reading of A Short History of the Unified Republic of Stars, Chapter 1.
Episode 1.2, a reading of A Short History of the Unified Republic of Stars, Chapter 2.
Episode 1.3, a reading of the Unified Republic of Stars, Chapter 3. This week, we go into detail on how, and a little bit of why, people left Earth to settle the colonies as well as some of what they encountered when they got there.
A short supplemental episode in which the ion-plasma engine is discussed in more detail, what it is, how it was invented, and how it's used within the world.
How does a population, in less than seventy years, grow from almost nothing to 500 million? And, given the hardships, why would people want to settle these worlds to begin with? All questions answered in this week's podcast.
The revolution is coming. Because people are tired of what Earth keeps doing to them. This week, we explain what that is. And how the colonists of the star cluster react to interference from so far away.
A short supplemental on why I believe that the colonization era we've been discussing for the last several episodes is probably my favorite era to tell stories set within the world.
Revolution! When the colonies and Earth go from passive aggressive to actually aggressive.
How do the colonies communicate with one another? In this supplemental, we discuss not only how someone might contact their neighbor but someone in the next city. Or on another planet. And we discuss an emergency system that as developed to help shippers stranded in the depths of space.
We've been mentioning shippers since the beginning. But, with this supplemental, we'll be explaining some of the terms they use. Also, we'll explain how people navigate in deep space. These things will be important for future episodes when we get deep into how the former colonies and Earth wage war against one another.
This week, Earth invades the colonies, attempting to take two of the major planets. They don't succeed, this time, but unless the colonies get their act together, they see that it's possible Earth might the next time.
A quick mid-week supplemental in which we discuss a character that has barely been touched on but which is a hugely important character driving much of the action: Economics!
This week, three major topics being discussed on the podcast! First, the question of defense. Then, the question of self governance within the colonies. And last, the creation of the most mighty battleship ever built. But will any of it be enough?
Earth invades again! But now the planets have formed a new alliance in the form of the Unified Republic of Stars. But will this new government and the Republican Fleet be enough?
This week, the NOVA sets sail. And our pal Dutch Warner is second chair on the Kim Muyan. But, this is a new fleet and not everything always runs smoothly.
This week, Earth invades, yet again. But Dutch Warner, at a great cost to the Republic stops the invasion in its tracks before a single boot hits the ground.
The NOVA has done its job and protects the Republic, bringing about the first true period of peace and stability the unified planets had ever known. We also wrap up the stories of several characters we've been following throughout.
We kick off the second season with an explanation of some of the most jarring cultural differences between the world we know and live in and the colonial worlds of tomorrow.
This week, we do our very first in the Rivalries sub-series and show just how different life in the colonies could be versus life on Earth. In some ways it's good, and freeing. But, in other ways... not so much.
