One thing leads to another and it keeps moving on - as if it has a life of its own. Yet, as human beings, all of us like to know the start, the middle and the end of things. Or so we claim. The pace of our modern lives leaves us little time to finish what we start and we keep building on this sense of dissatisfaction without even realizing how we are causing it, moment by moment, day after day. Hemant Gupta joins me in catching the thread of this thought and unravelling whatever is possible in this space and time. A beautiful conversation emerges. Have a look - and do comment if it brings up something in you. For the video, check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
It is a classic day for many of us: We start scrolling on our #cellphones and time passes us by...minutes turn into hours and we seem to be needlessly losing track of time and none the richer for it in experience, in attention or in wisdom. In fact, we feel wasted or clueless about our initial purpose of scrolling if there was one. For the video, check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
Hemant Gupta is fearlessly willing to go down any rabbit hole that many of us would fear. It is this quality of his which drove me to ask the important questions, 'What if we are less than perfect? How does one make peace with one's own imperfections?' What comes out is pure exploratory territory and unsurprisingly, some beautiful practical to-dos are shared as well. What a pleasant surprise to trust 'what is' - it almost always rewards you with real, authentic answers. This episode is a good reminder to keeping the search real and honest at all times. Mustafa is a remarkable person. When quite a few would shirk away from exposing their vulnerability in the face of a close relative's death, he actually proposed we speak about things he is experiencing internally and externally leading me to ask questions which touch a chord within me too, making me sensitive during the conversation. It is a mindful and heartfelt chat, where we pause, honour our own feelings, the event, the loss, the gravity of our feelings and allow it to surface on camera, even as we begin to understand the various ways different people process death. Calling it an episode, or a watch-worthy conversation seems superficial to the actual talk. Shared here are pieces of our combined humanity. See if you want to be with this for a while. May all gain peace from this fragile attempt to accept impermanence. For the video, please check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
I embark on a journey which questions the destination. Not necessarily out of my provocative habit :) but so that I can probe into a mind-state which learns to differentiate reality from imagined versions of #happiness #peace #enlightenment or whatever you choose to call a place where there is no sorrow. Uday Kiran, my guest is not only unafraid in exploring areas which would be concerning to many, but actually admits to being stuck in his earlier attempts to understand his own journey to happiness. His answers are measured and calm, giving both, an environment and actual clarity to what he is asking us to reflect upon. A beautiful conversation, do check it out. 'A series of destinations, not a journey' was my thought. Aren't we different people at different ages, and change our minds about how we view things in new spaces and times. This may seem like an idle thought till we started going down this rabbit-hole and realised there was much to explore and marvel at. Our view of ourselves, our perspectives, our limitations, our interactions, our outlook of others and their notions - an immense lot of variations, permutations and combinations emerged. Hemant Gupta is not only a sport in this journey of meanderings, but also drills into various thoughts thoroughly. Enjoyable and provocative, this is one talk which will leave you pondering on several things. Do check it out. For the video, check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
#Knowledge is literally at our finger tips. Perhaps much more than what we would want. In that sense, how do human beings use curiosity as an element of growth in this brave new world? We talk about #neanderthals, good and bad kinds of curiosity, the need for this aspect of development in us, the advantages and disadvantages. Personal examples, inter-personal relationships, #family, #friendships, the aspect of #rightspeech...we speak about things which can be impacted in our #personal and #professional lives. Curious? You should be. This conversation is sure to satiate some of that :) For the video, check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
Preeti Gupta has been a practical person for all the time I have known her. This episode does not change my view of her at all, and yet, her evolution is a pleasant revelation. She talks about her emotions with so much passion and yet, warns us about being attached to them. She has allowed Life to guide her well, and she is flowering, as is evident in her answers about how 'being #happy is an antidote to most of the problems and dark spaces one finds oneself in. What a beautiful #human conversation...you cannot and should not miss it. Do let me know how you feel about it. For the video, check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
Roopa and Hemant join me in a conversation which evolves with every sentence spoken almost. 'Who am I?' one of life's most fundamental questions was never an easy discussion, but we seem to grow in and out of ourselves constantly in this Q and A, where the answers go deeper and the queries from our own selves demands we acknowledge the limitation of words even as we understand that Truth may be above and beyond our capability to understand or communicate in the immediate. We pause, laugh, grimace, smile and agree that not all truths can be conveyed in the present, and at times, may require a change in mindset and waiting time. An engaging conversation, if there was one. Do not miss it. For the video, check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
John Britton and Manoj Khatri join me in a conversation which becomes engaging from the first sentence itself. The topic is highly relevant for every right-minded human being and this chat actually makes us go down trains of thought which provoke us to think deeper. Who am I? Who are we as a collective whole? Is there a unity which can be reached despite the many barriers to coming together? A wonderful ease settles upon me, as we reach the end of this chat. Do check it out. In a world bewitched by confidence, what is it that makes learning important? I get Vishal Singh, a musician to contemplate on, and share his life experiences with me on the tricky slope of knowing oneself, responding to one's calling, keeping the learning hat on, and yet, making a living. A tall order, I know, but his evocative answers and gestures liven up the conversation and provide many facets of our habits, behaviour patterns and the mind. It is as personal as it is universal, this chat. Check it out. For the video, check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
Yet another Random Contemplation with Hemant Gupta. A fascinating, insightful, warm, deep and meaningful exchange once more. An attempt to move down authentic paths talking about experiences which have us taking pauses far more than usual. And what worthy attempts they are. Do check out this spiritual and practical chat....and do write in what you think. It is that kind of conversation. For the video, check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
It is an important topic for me, as I guess it is for all of us. The world today lays far more emphasis on communication than ever before, and confidence in the way we reach out seems to impact the message. But being unsure, tentative, reflective are vital when one is searching in the depths of one's own mind. Words and the way they are spoken are merely carriers of thoughts - and just because one isn't freely allowing sentences to flow comprehensively does not indicate the lack of truth or strength of clarity. This is an amazingly subtle topic, and once more I am lucky to have Hemant Gupta have this conversation with me. Do check out the beautiful insights that come up during our chat. It is worth spending time on the topic. It may change the way you present things at times. Do listen in. For the video, check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
What started as a conversation on #peerpressure evolves with every answer into a deeper kind of conversation without any effort on my part. Rhea Anand is a perceptive youngster, and handles the pressures of my question like a pro. She answers unabashedly, pausing at times to gather her thoughts and continuing free-flowing into her answers which are clear and bright. We have a calm, quiet guest in her, who is willing to think aloud on questions which would make the most seasoned among us pause. A #teenager with a view which matters. Dive right in and enjoy the conversation. For the video, check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
The chat goes into what is clearly uncharted territory for me - Optimism. Talking to the #youth is a wonderful opportunity to discover what keeps the world moving. Ayush Jain is a calm, cool customer when it comes to difficult questions. His answers are quietly contemplative and he uses words without cleverness and guile to really help us understand his perspective as clearly as he can. It is a joy to hear things of tomorrow for those who are going to live in it. Have a look and let me know how you like it. For the video, check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
An interesting and unexpected chat...at times meandering, but nothing seems to affect the depth of the topic or the questions or the answers at any point. Roshan Shetty is a man who has lived the corporate life among the many other lives of trying, failing, succeeding, helping others and feeling helpless himself. Seems like a rich experience? It is. He is generously vulnerable and allows both, his reading and his experience to come up when required to answer my provocative queries instinctively. From morality to anxiety, we have covered a fair ground about quite a few vital subjects. Do check out this fascinating conversation. For the video, please check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
Khanjan is a sorted lady. She is clear, confident, measured and easy with her answers to questions on what #technology is doing to communication and at the pace it is available in our lives. She is not negative but agrees some checks and balances are required, a change of perspective is needed to optimize the usage and reduce the burden on self-imagery #socialmedia has put on us. Some laughs, some uh-oh reactions, and some insights arise in the fun kind of conversation. Do check it out. For the video, check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
It is a simple kind of conversation, not very deep, but very moving though. Urmish Suchday guides us into his mind full of love and admiration for the mountains with short, sweet answers. But this is till I provoke him to share some stories...then he takes on a completely different avatar, taking us through little details of his treks, the challenges, his learnings, his love of #uttarakhand and the Dos and Don'ts of #mountaintravel. It is a different kind of chat for me too, and I enjoyed it. The only regret I have is, I finished my #tea before the chat. A cuppa #chai with this kind of conversation would have been just perfect. You can do that. Let me know how it you enjoy it :) For the video, check www.youtube.com/c/thevaluesworkshop
A dramatic title could have been a risk, and it was, but Pragya jumped right in and made it a delight of a conversation. We have had such insightful things spoken about in this chat, that you will be amazed at both, the wisdom of vulnerability being shared, and the guest's perspective of her difficult journey. It is truly a blessing of a conversation and I am glad to have discussed #selfies #selfishness and a lot about inner work with this amazing gem of a guest. Do check it out. #Dhamma is timeless. In this episode, I am grateful to speak to Herman Schreuder, a teacher of #samathameditation which involves chanting of #Buddho and reflecting on the qualities of the Buddha. A happy and pleasant conversation, ideal for whoever is interested in delving deeper into #meditation. You will find Herman's answers are precise and clear, an indication of his practice and compassion. Do have a look...you will find his simplicity both engaging and endearing. Check it out.
