Episode 30 ft. Orrett Morgan

Orrett Morgan is a Program Head of the Technology Support Professional Support Program at British Columbia's Institute of Technology (BCIT). Orrett and I know each other offline as his teenage sons participate in the community basketball league that I have the responsibility of overseeing in Richmond, British Columbia. ⁣ Something that both Orrett and I feel very passionately about is creating brave and safe spaces - both emotionally and physically. In this episode, Orrett breaks down the four pillars that he outlines to each of his cohorts in order to engender a brave safe for his students to thrive. I typically derive a copious amount of value from Orrett and I’s offline conversations, and I certainly hope that those who listen to this can leave with a tangible technique, or two, in making the community around them a braver, and safer, space. Episode 19 ft. Philip Scrubb

On the first episode of 2021, Gabe (@GaberInc) is joined by one of his best friends, Philip Scrubb (@PScrubb), to wrap up the two-part mini-series where conversations that are typically had during the Holiday season are brought to my listeners and viewers in hopes of bringing a sense of connection and community to those who may need it most during this typically joyous period.    Philip is an active member of the Senior Canadian Men's National Basketball Team. During his Collegiate Basketball at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada career, Phil charted territory that only a few others have: winning the national championship in all five years of his eligibility (and also being awarded the Most Outstanding Player of the Year award in three of those seasons). He currently playing professionally Limoges CSP in France, this is his sixth season of playing basketball overseas.    Amongst other things, I wanted to get Phil's take on the year that had just passed (2020) - one that was heavily defined by loss: the loss of basketball icon, Kobe Bryant and two months later, the loss of 'normalcy' - as when we were both in our first year of university, he lost his Mum, Diane Murphy, to a battle with Cancer.    We also discussed how the culture at Carleton University's basketball program shaped him ideologically as an student-athlete, coping with the Mental Health effects of living away from family and friends during the season and also how to focus more on performance rather than perception in the age of Social Media.   Please enjoy!  #WeGotUs SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmeYBrWzuqLVvT9acDXWGwg  CONNECT:  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/GaberInc/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GaberIncTwitter:  https://twitter.com/TheRealGaber
