Episode 206!?
This week we are giving our thoughts on "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem"!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is a 2023 American animated superhero film based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. A reboot of the Turtles film series, it was directed by Jeff Rowe, who co-wrote the screenplay with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit, from a story he co-wrote with Brendan O'Brien, Rogen, and Goldberg. The film stars the voices of Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon as the titular Turtles, alongside an ensemble voice cast that includes Ayo Edebiri, Maya Rudolph, John Cena, Rogen, Rose Byrne, Natasia Demetriou, Giancarlo Esposito, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, Paul Rudd, Post Malone, and Hannibal Buress. In the film, the Turtles go on a hunt for a mysterious crime syndicate, but trouble arises when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them. The story explores themes of family, acceptance, and conformity.
Plans for an animated Turtles film with involvement by Rogen began in 2018. In June 2020, the project was officially announced, with Rogen, Goldberg, and James Weaver producing through their company, Point Grey Pictures, Rowe as director, and O'Brien as screenwriter. Kyler Spears joined soon after as co-director. Seeking to explore the teenage aspect of the Turtles, the filmmakers drew inspiration from teenage coming-of-age films. The majority of the cast was announced in March 2023. The animation was provided by Mikros Animation in Montreal and Paris and Cinesite in Vancouver and Montreal, and was primarily influenced by school notebook sketches. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross composed the score.
Mutant Mayhem was screened as a work-in-progress at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 12, 2023, and was released by Paramount Pictures in the United States on August 2, 2023. It has grossed $180 million worldwide and received positive reviews for its performances, screenplay, and stylized animation; several critics considered it the best Turtles film. A follow-up television series, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is set to premiere on Paramount+, and a sequel film is in development.

Episode 205!?
This week we are giving our thoughts on "Minor Threats Volume 1: A Quick End To A Long Beginning"!
A new original comic series from Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum - showrunners of Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K on Hulu - and superstar artist Scott Hepburn!
In the vein of Sin City, Watchmen, and The Boys, this noir-ish superhero caper, focuses on a lower-class kind of criminal, similar to the Coen Bros' most pulpy films, but set in a high concept world of heroes and villains.
It’s hard out there for a supervillain. Not the world conquerors, chaos engines, or arch-nemeses, but the little guys, the career criminals. The ones who put on uniforms, knock over jewelry stores, and get tied to telephone poles before the hero swings off to face the actual big bad. Times are tough for costumed crooks…and they’re about to get much worse.
The psychotic Stickman has done the unthinkable and murdered Kid Dusk, sidekick to Twilight City’s premier crime-fighter, The Insomniac. The Insomniac’s teammates, The Continuum, are tearing Twilight apart, turning it into a terrifying police state—desperate to capture the Stickman and stop the Insomniac from “crossing that final line” in which he may never come back from.
Caught in the middle are the small-time C-list villains, finding it impossible to pull jobs or even walk down the street without being harassed by these heroes. With a bounty on the Stickman’s head, former villain Playtime decides to put together a ragtag team of equally disgruntled supervillains to take down the Stickman and kill him themselves, leading her on a dark journey into the criminal underbelly she’s tried so hard to escape.
This graphic crime drama is about superheroes and villains and the last gasp of the colorful, innocent days of the silver and bronze age...before they’re dragged into the grit-soaked modern era.

Episode 204!?
This week we are giving our thoughts on "Superman / Madman Hullabaloo"!
The Man of Steel meets the Man of Madness as two of comics' most unique and revolutionary heroes crossover (and how!). In each of their respective universes, Superman and Madman are involved in scientific experiments, the results of which propel the unsuspecting superbeings into one another's worlds. The only thing is, each takes half of the other with him -- creating two confused heroes and one big Hullabaloo! Co-published with DC Comics.
In their discussion, they note how this unique crossover between the characters Superman and Madman creates an intriguing and humorous storyline. They give the artwork a mixed review, praising the depictions of the characters while critiquing certain scenes for lack of contrast and for seeming too rushed. In regards to the plot, they highlight its unpredictability and blend of serious and silly moments. While the comic seems to play it safe due to the inclusion of prominent DC figure, Superman, Lex and Simon commend the comic for its fun and 'low stakes' approach to the narrative.

In a world without Batman…will Selina Kyle’s old wounds tear Gotham City apart? Cliff Chiang writes and illustrates the ultimate Catwoman masterpiece!
Ten years ago, the massacre known as Fools’ Night claimed the lives of Batman, the Joker, Nightwing, and Commissioner Gordon…and sent Selina Kyle, the Catwoman, to prison.

It’s into this new city that Selina Kyle returns, a changed woman…with her mind on that one last big score: the secrets hidden inside the Batcave! She doesn’t need the money—she just needs to know…who is “Orpheus”?
Visionary creator Cliff Chiang (Wonder Woman, Paper Girls) writes, draws, colors, and letters the story of a world without Batman, where one woman’s wounds threaten to tear apart an entire city! It’s an unmissable artistic statement that will change the way you see Gotham’s heroes and villains forever!

Set in the real world, SECRET IDENTITY examines the life of a young Kansas man with the unfortunate name of Clark Kent. Until one day when Clark awakens to discover that he can fly...that he does in fact have super-strength! But where did these powers come from? And what's he going to do about it?
Superman: Secret Identity is a four-issue mini-series written by Kurt Busiek and illustrated by Stuart Immonen. It was first published monthly, starting January 2004. The title was not released under the Elseworlds banner, but is regarded as a non-canonical story.

This week we are giving our thoughts on "Batman: Beyond the White Knight"!
Batman: Beyond the White Knight is an American comic book published by DC Comics under its Black Label imprint. The eight-issue limited series — written and illustrated by Sean Murphy, lettered by AndWorld Design and colored by Dave Stewart — began its monthly publication on March 29, 2022 and ended on February 14, 2023. It is the sequel to both Batman: White Knight (2017–18) and Batman: Curse of the White Knight (2019–20), and is also the fifth installment in Murphy's self-titled Murphyverse line. It is also an adaptation of the animated television series Batman Beyond (1999–2001), with the plot of the comic book being based on the original premise of the TV show.
Batman: Beyond the White Knight takes place 12 years after the events which are described in the previous volume Batman: Curse of the White Knight, which ended with Bruce Wayne exposed as Batman to the general public and donating his entire fortune to the people of Gotham City, and then turning himself in to the police. Since that, the city has evolved into a futuristic megalopolis known as "Neo-Gotham". Following the murder of his father Warren, young Terry McGinnis — under the orders of his employer Derek Powers — steals a technologically advanced Batsuit to become the new Batman and avenge his father's death. At the same time, a middle-aged Bruce escapes from prison in an attempt to rid Neo-Gotham of Batman for good, all while a civil war slowly rages through the city and Powers transforms into the supervillain Blight.
Batman: Beyond the White Knight received critical acclaim from critics and readers alike, with praise for the comic's plot, dialogue and dynamics between characters, art style, and faithfulness to the source material. A two-issue limited series titled Batman: White Knight Presents: Red Hood — which serves as a prequel to Batman: Beyond the White Knight — began publication on August 2, 2022 and ended on the 23rd of the same month. A six-issue limited series titled Batman: White Knight Presents: Generation Joker — which serves as a follow-up to Batman: Beyond the White Knight — began publication on May 9, 2023.

Episode 192!?
In this episode, Lex and Simon revisit their review of the graphic novel "Batman: White Knight" by Sean Murphy. They discuss the unique premise, the art style, character development, and how it compares to other Batman stories.
Premise and Setting
"Batman: White Knight" presents an alternate universe where the Joker, now cured of his insanity, seeks to expose Batman's dark side and become a hero to Gotham City.
The story delves into issues of police brutality and the consequences of vigilante justice.
Art Style and Colors
The art style is praised for its sketchy yet detailed approach, creating a perfect dark atmosphere for Gotham City.
The use of neutral colors contrasts the traditional bright tones of superhero stories, enhancing the overall mood.
Character Development
The reimagining of classic Batman characters like the Joker, Harley Quinn, and Nightwing is well-executed and refreshing.
The Joker's transformation into Jack Napier showcases his genius intellect and cunning nature, making him a formidable adversary for Batman.
Harley Quinn's Role
The story cleverly twists the narrative by revealing that the original Harley Quinn abandoned her alter ego, leaving the Joker unaware of the change.
Harley's evolution as a character and her decision to become the new Joker add depth to her role in the story.
The GTO and Team Batman
The GTO (Gotham Terrorist Oppression) is an interesting addition to the story, consisting of former Batman allies who work with the police.
The Bat-family's new roles and their unique Batmobiles add excitement to the action sequences.
The Sequel Tease
The mention of a sequel book leaves readers intrigued about the future of this alternate Batman universe.
Some elements, such as the Nazi storyline, feel rushed, but they don't significantly detract from the overall enjoyment.
"Batman: White Knight" offers a compelling and self-contained story that challenges the traditional dynamics between Batman and the Joker. The art style and character development are highlights, making it a must-read for Batman fans. The sequel promises to delve deeper into this fascinating universe.
