As you already know, when it comes to job hunting or building your professional network. LinkedIn is the #1 platform. In my opinion, any professional seeking to reach the top of their career needs to have a presence on LinkedIn. Here's why: Over seven hundred million users over 200 countries represented on LinkedIn almost-eight of LinkedIn users are decision makers Over 50 million companies are listed on the platform With all these stats it's easy to see that LinkedIn has built a platform that's a force to reckon with as far as companies and top-level executives are concerned. Asides that fact that you need to set up your profile completely and set up your certifications, it is also necessary to collect recommendations from your active LinkedIn friends. One of the most important things to do on the platform is to share your professional success stories on the platform and also engage with top stories in your niche. Instagram is mostly a photo and video sharing app where people go to for entertainment, a bit of education, catching up with their celebrities and icons as well as getting some updates from news accounts as well as businesses they are interested in. Let's not forget that like Facebook, recruiters are also likely to check you out on Instagram especially when they have tried finding you on Facebook and to no avail. Unlike other platforms, it get a bit more personal when you're branding yourself on IG. As you can tell, it's a visual platform and a lot of things can go wrong when you don't present yourslef the right way on Instagram. Hence, on Instagram, your personal brand is the key to everything and when it comes to IG, your offers are most likely going to be ones you are not looking out for but mostly offers that come looking for you. Here's how to brand yourself on Instagram: - Use a great profile picture - Let your bio sell you with as little words as possible - Let your highlights cover the important stuff in your life that your prospective client/employer will need to know - Use a multilink platform like linktree so that people can see the important links that highlight your professionalism - Post photos of remarkable stuff that you have done. - Give relatable tips as captions to highlight your strenghts - let your feed be a timeline of all the great stuff you are capable of - follow and engage with hashtags that are related to your niche - follow and engage with people that are leaders in your niche or can positively impact on your awesomeness At the end of the day, never forget that you are selling yourself on a personal level with Instagram and as such you shouldn't be shy to let people know all that you are capable of.   Photo by Phil Desforges on Unsplash
Twitter is regarded as a microblogging platform where debates are raised, and tensions can flare. Amid all that twitter is known for, people do get jobs on this platform that is pulling the plug on fleets. It starts from ensuring that your profile reflects the image you want to project. So, for one, it might be to show off how he is an Engineering wizard while another just wants to highlight how well she makes shoes. For both, one thing is certain, they must put their best foot forward. While last week, we talked about creating your Facebook profile as you would prepare a CV, with Twitter, it's a bit different, you are creating your business card. If you have to separate personal life from business, by all means run two different twitter accounts. The next thing to do is to follow people and businesses you would like to network/work with so that with time, when the opportunity presents itself, you can make meaningful comments on their posts that will make them notice you. Another advanced trick is to use the advanced search of twitter to look for other professionals working with businesses where you would like to work and then try to build a relationship with them. Another thing you can do with Advanced search is to look for available job postings on twitter by including location filters and adding keywords like jobs, openings, or positions, you can be able to see some results that might match the perfect job for you. The constant thing you need to do irrespective of the platform you are trying to get a job from is content creation also known as storytelling. You must be able to make content that people would love to engage with and hence you will get noticed and be seen as an authority with time especially in a case where your points are valid and are not perceived as biased. Facebook as we all know is a great place to stay connected with family and friends, and while a lot of the younger generation are finding Instagram and Snapchat a better place to hang out, Facebook is still relevant for them especially in job hunting.   A whole lot of people don't even know that there are other cool things to do on Facebook asides staying connected with friends and family.   Facebook has a job board that can easily be accessed at   On this job board, employers can list openings and job seekers can apply immediately without having to leave the platform.   Over sixty-five million businesses have pages on Facebook and even if you don't consider it so, Facebook is the second most popular social network for recruiters.   Job posting is free for recruiters and you don't have to pay to apply to any job posting now which makes it a win-win for both companies and job seekers.   Before you go looking for jobs on Facebook though, you need to tidy your profile as that can easily disqualify you if your Facebook profile doesn't match your CV.   Use a professional profile picture. Make sure any content you don't want recruiters to see are not set to public Fill in your recent job positions Enter in your education details Show your most relevant skills in your profile (it's just under the education section) Show off your important achievements on your profile Share your opinion about topics in your niche on your profile Make sure you're in the top groups for your niche on Facebook Facebook has a projects tool that you can use to boost your status Follow the pages of companies where you wish to work Photo by Zac Wolff on Unsplash  
Hashtags are a great way for social media platforms to curate posts based on topics set by the content poster. Mentions are ways to alert other account owners that they are being talked about. Hashtags can help you improve visibility if they are used correctly but do not generally mean that you will see a big growth using them. To use them effectively, add a few specific hashtags to your posts, and more importantly, make sure your account is set to public. Some of the best hashtag types to use are Location Hashtags Branded Hashtags Holiday/Event-related hashtags At the end of the day, check the impact that hashtags are making on your posts if you are a business account. If the effect of hashtags is minimal, you probably don't need them.

In this episode, I will share some DIY Graphic design cloud apps that make graphic work easier. Canva is the most popular drag-and-drop design tool out there It has templates that cover just about every design need you will have with lots of free assets that will allow your work to be done in such a short time However, chances are people can tell a Canva Graphic a mile away and as such if you are trying to show off uniqueness, I will ask you to stay away from Canva except, of course, you are building your own template from the scratch. Crello is a much more visually appealing DIY design tool and was created by the people at deposit photos. It looks similar to Canva but has templates that look more professional and are less popular than what you will find on Canva. A higher percentage of their design templates are illustration-based instead of photo-based and this sets them apart from the pack Apparently, if you are using Crello pro, you have access to loads of images from deposit photos. Adobe Spark is the alternative from Adobe that does also what Canva does, however, their library of designs can be confusing as most times I am unable to filter designs by a particular size. Spark is definitely easy to use and this has toned down the ability to have more control over your design. If you are looking for creative freedom, Spark is not the tool for you and we can't blame Adobe, the pros have other tools to choose from in their arsenal and Spark is just a toy for the newbies to play with. While I have not used Easil ever, I have heard and read great reviews about this app that suggests that it actually is worth looking into.  Easil templates have the canva feel to them but are also professional-looking. They have a decent tool that helps with background removal from photos as well as branding assets that help your design to always be within the assets that are approved for the brand in terms of color, fonts, and logo variations. As a Canva user, Easil is the easiest platform to transit to. Stencil is by far the easiest tool to use to generate quotes. There's a huge library for quotes and they have over 1.5 million royalty-free stock photos in their library and is the only platform that has massive integration with Google web fonts.  Stencil is however very limited if you will not be paying $12 (or 20) a month because the free version allows you to export just 10 images a month while the $9 (or 15) plan gives you access to just 50 exports a month. If you are not willing to go unlimited, don't walk the Stencil path but if you ask me, I believe the unlimited plan is worth it and I will recommend paying yearly. Snappa's website looks like a slightly modified copy of Stencil however, Sujan Patel seems to love it and gave them an outstanding recommendation. It has a good background remover, allows you just three exports a month if you are using the free plan. I typically love their YouTube end screen arts as well as their Advertising templates. They also curated awesome zoom virtual background images that are absolutely beautiful. Due to the quality of templates here, I see no reason why you shouldn't pay for what you get.

At the top of the list, you need to create an online portfolio either on your website or using an online portfolio service. It's not compulsory to have a website but it does help with your packaging and having a central place for people to find all necessary information about you including various ways for them to contact you. Show off your skills on your social media using a well thought out social media strategy that should include a mix of the following: - showcase your past job - show off your workspace - showcase photos, graphics, or clips that show you on the job - share tips that can be useful for your audience Use business cards, they help to give out your details quickly in an offline situation especially when you are in a hurry. - Your business as a graphics designer should be functional and not be an avenue to show off your skills. Let people understand where your inspiration comes from as a graphics designer Show consistence and persistence Ensure you meet your clients' expectations by giving realistic deadlines. This will especially improve their likelihood to recommend you to others. It's ok to specialize in a certain style and type of Graphics design however, this doesn't you from taking other jobs that you are confident of executing. You can partner with other professionals that offer complementary services so you can do client exchange.
