The Wyde

Hello!

I'm Julia Bazemore. Welcome to the Wyde! Podcasts have all types of focus these days, this one is ministry. So off the bat, I expect God will meet you where you are here. I trust that He will speak to you in the days and weeks to come as a result of what you hear. His Word is just that powerful, and I try to keep a purity in delivery to facilitate that.
I find topical podcasts just too limiting when it comes to the Word of God. You just never know what He's going to say or how He's going to move. So this podcast is about the Word of God, however it comes, whenever it comes. Sometimes an episode is about a certain Scripture or Testament, another time it might just be on ordinary life and what it means to walk with God given the world we live in today. Both reveal truths about His Word.
Many episodes carry the weight of a sermon, but the warmth of a devotional or small group, and for those that care the education is there too (MDiv and finishing a PhD).
Speaking from history, these are the types that typically get the most from my ministry:
-emerging Christian leaders
-students of the Word
-students of the Spirit
-the spiritually gifted
-intellectuals
-creatives/out-of-the-box types
-those hungry for a change from the status quo
If one of these fit you, you should definitely give it a try. If it's 2-3, you'll probably like the content. If you checked the boxes for most of these, this podcast was created for your spirit. Just pick an episode and give it 10 minutes.
Also, if this list happens to remind you of someone else, please pass it on. You might just bless them.
2022 update: Just started a new webpage that will feature all-new content of various varieties: blogs, videos, and podcast-like audio @ www.JPBazemore.com. Make Us Glad: Psalm 90:13-17

Have you ever needed a spiritual "pick-me-up"? I certainly have. While praying for what to talk about this week, I stumbled on this verse in Psalm 90 that speaks to just that. It happened to fit with an especially trying week I just had. Hope these verses bless you! All of our days with Christ and in Christ aren't easy. Some of it can feel like down right affliction, stress, and the like, but there is encouragement in the word for every weary soul connected to Him. I've noticed that prayer can be hard during these times too. Psalm 90 offers several easy prayers we can pray when we're down, to see and experience the immediate impact of the Lord at work. Sometimes we just need a gentle reminder that He's still there and still hears.IG @JPBazemoreSupport the show (http://cash.app/$JPBazemore)

Authority: Whether to Bow or Conform, and to Who...?

Have you ever felt pressure to do something? I watched a movie recently (the Experimenter) that talked about this very thing, how it is in our nature to obey, even when it is to malevolent authority (someone with evil intentions). Naturally this has strong spiritual and biblical implications, because Scripture talks about this very same thing. The only authority we should listen and bow to is Jesus, but it can be difficult to reserve that ownership and relationship only to Him. We often assume other entities, people, and even ourselves have more power than is actually true. Our directives outside of Jesus, by nature, are malevolent, even the ones we come up with for ourselves. We must forsake all and bow only God, the Lord Jesus, and Milgram's experiment offers a lot we can learn from in how to do this. The root of what his experiment teaches is truth from the Bible.IG @JPBazemoreSupport the show (http://cash.app/$JPBazemore)

Lost and Found: 2 Cor 4:16-18

Have you ever lost heart? There's a million and one reasons to these days, pick one. Paul has some sage words for us, that I think God is really speaking to hearts about. He focuses on the eternal weight of glory to be gained and on the inner self being renewed. He's somehow able to miraculously reconsider and recharacterize his troubles as being advantageous to his soul. It is worth something, literally a type of earning potential spiritually.Though his troubles are weighty, he calls them light. Though he is afflicted, he takes heart in his soul being well. If you find yourself (or a friend or loved one) troubled more often than not, this episode will bless you. It's not always about God solving all of our problems, but in how He can guide us to manage them well, not with a change of heart but a change of mind.Focusing on what is to come in the glory of Him is medicine all itself. It's our preoccupied focus on what is in the present that makes us sick.Be well today. Think well. Look to Him.IG @JPBazemoreSupport the show (http://cash.app/$JPBazemore)

Championship Living : 1 Cor 9:24-27

Who doesn't love sports? My favorite time to watch them is during the playoffs. The stakes are high because everyone is working so hard to win that elusive championship. Athletes train for years, decades, in preparation to compete at the highest levels. What does this have to do with Scripture? Paul makes an interesting parallel that we can learn a trove of wisdom from! Walking with Christ is like athletics. There's a huge level of dedication required. What's more, there is a reward to be earned. So it is with Christ.I'll say that again, there is a reward for living and serving the Lord righteously, and it's about way more than just heaven. Jesus already won that prize for us, but there is more. That is why sanctification, clean living, and obedience is still important now. That gets lost sometimes in messages and Christian rhetoric today. Just like athletes, every day we serve Him really does matter. It has an effect on us and those around us.Are you living well? Are you training in Him well? You have a race to run and an eternal part to play in His Kingdom. Press play to hear more.I may do a part 2. There's more to unpack.IG @JPBazemoreSupport the show (http://cash.app/$JPBazemore)

Turbulence: Mark 6:44-50

Are you going through a tough time right now? God has some wisdom and comfort for us experiencing the winds and waves, the ebbs and flows of life. The disciples in the Bible days never flew on a plane, but they often traveled by ship in dangerous conditions. It's a familiar passage, but with fresh insights on the God of comfort and how He shepherds us, like a wise pilot through rough air. He will get us there safely, from point A to point B. We can and most importantly should trust in Him in transition. It's usually a bumpy road, but in His hands we are safe. It's just a little turbulence.IG @JPBazemoreSupport the show (http://cash.app/$JPBazemore)

Spilt Milk: Isaiah 55:1-2

Have you ever been tired and felt like you haven't really gone anywhere? There are so many things we can spend our time, energy, and resources on, but this passage is a simple yet important reminder that all the things we really need can be found in Him - we only need to draw near. He carries the things that money can't buy, and if you find yourself in need today of anything, of everything, take a listen. He can and wants to provide, and this is about way more than money. It's actually a metaphor of provision overall - for physical needs, emotional needs, and spiritual needs. Whatever it is, He can and will find a way. Those ways will be made clear, so let us not cry over wasted energy, or whine over spilt milk. Let us cease striving, and know instead.IG @JPBazemoreSupport the show (http://cash.app/$JPBazemore)

Yield: Matthew 26:30-35

Have you ever struggled with God's timing or ways about doing things? We all have, whether we admit it or not. There's just something about the way God does things that equally draws and repels us. There is some hidden insight I just discovered that you will want to hear, coming from Matthew 26.Talking about surrender is a tough topic. We all want things to be done a certain way. Peter and the disciples were no different. They walked with God and knew Him, but when it came to how He was persecuted and died, that is what they denied. They did not know "this Jesus." And before you think you do, consider how many times you've asked the Lord "why?"If that is you, you'll want to hear this one. Though it is a reality that many of His disciples will fall away, even for us today, God is beckoning some of us to stand firm in Him anyway.IG @JPBazemoreSupport the show (http://cash.app/$JPBazemore)

Radar: Prov 16:1-3

How do you know if you're going in the right direction? Many of us consider the right direction but not the right pace. Both must be done and we must allow God to weigh our scales. That is the only path to becoming fully established in the Lord Jesus, our ways and plans fully committed to His lordship.IG @JPBazemoreSupport the show (http://cash.app/$JPBazemore)

The Night Shift: Psalm 130:5-6

Have you worked the night shift before? My husband and I were looking at Psalm 130 one day and I was fascinated with what he had to say about waiting on God and how it relates to working the night shift.During the study I told him I was gonna steal this for a episode/topic one day. Here it is! I start off with a few of his insights, then bring home what the Psalm might mean for us today. If you need some encouragement about waiting on God to move/provide/speak, you'll want to hear this.IG @JPBazemoreSupport the show (http://cash.app/$JPBazemore)

Book of Bazemore: Part 2

So the book of Bazemore 1 happened. Now here's the sequel, because Marcus and I were laughing behind the scenes about how much God has matured us through this relationship. We had to do another episode because a big part of that maturity was addressing our individual mental health to resolve some marital issues that arose. If you know church or church people, this was definitely alot! The general sentiment can often be "let's just keep praying," but we figured our honesty and experience might help you if you're navigating similar ground. As the body of Christ, we have to stop masking stubbornness to get help as faith. They aren't the same thing.Feel free to eavesdrop on our real convo about faith, relationships, and mental health. For all of the Bible knowledge, Holy Spirit, and prayer between us, we still needed therapists (yes plural) helps navigate a few key issues. It's been a bumpy ride, but a delightful journey. "You will know the truth, and the truth shall set you free." -John 8:32P.S.If you and your spouse/significant other are in a dire situation, don't wait until it's too late. Seek out a pro counselor ASAP, and if you have a bad one, find another one!Cliff Notes:Ephesians 4:25-32 Startup (6:40)"Unwholesome Talk" and "Corrupting Words" (17:00)When Cloud 9 Becomes a Thunderstorm (29:00)Identifying the Problem (49:00)Embracing a Solution (1:02:00)IG: @JPBazemoreYoutube: J.P. Forgiveness and Repentance are Two Different Things: A Lesson from Ezra

Most people have a general understanding of God's forgiveness, but not really when it comes to repentance. It's a fancy word, but the root of it deals with changing our ways. It's natural to want forgiveness, but supernatural to successfully repent. Checkout this episode if you're curious about either, or know you've been running from that one thing God wants you to address. It's better to just go ahead and get the thing right, then to find yourself running from God. We'll take a peek at Israel's life in the book of Ezra for this one. Lots of gems there applicable to this topic.Take it from me: Save your energy. Obey God. Repent. Turn it over to Him and walk in the freedom God paid for you to have. God has forgiven us, but we must participate in the restorative process. Active participants, not passive spectators. Milk ---> solid food.Cliff Notes:Historical Backdrop (5:00)Scripture Reading Start (11:00)Exegesis on Accountability (16:00)The Onus Is on Us (27:00)Layers of Applications (32:00)This Is Not a Task for One Day (37:00)IG: @JPBazemoreYoutube: J.P. Processing Pain in Prayer: A Spiritual Discipline

Healing is hard. The word can be thrown around in Christian circles, but how many times does it honestly and truly happen? A lot of times we just think about physical healing, which is absolutely necessary, but what about emotional healing? What about mental healing?Scripture has alot to say about this whether you know it or not. David, Job, and even the Messiah poured out their hearts to God in a way that brought healing from the pains of their life. Yes Jesus also had pain. If you've dealt with people for awhile you already know this too. Why would God be any different in this regard?Take a walk with me through a few passages that highlight ways to be healed. God may not seek to heal you in a prayer line. It may be on your kitchen floor, just you and Him. Take a listen if you're looking for guidance in navigating this often messy but transformative and therapeutic process.Cliff notes:Why #1: Therapy Alone Isn't Sufficient (7:25)Why #2: It's Necessary for Your Health (11:30)How #1: Follow the Example of David and Job (13:00)How #2: Make Time, Process, and Be Patient (22:00) How #3: Follow the Example of and to Jesus (28:00)Appendix: For Those Tired of Waiting (35:00) IG: @JPBazemoreYoutube: J.P. Pride comes before the fall, but how do we know if we harbor pride in our hearts? It's not one of those things that is easy to discern. Take a listen to this episode if you feel like things have slowed in your walk with God. It just might be because pride has taken the front seat and moved God to a passenger one. Judges 2 is our roadmap for this episode. Let's go!Cliff notes:Scripture reading start (5:15)The faithfulness of God (10:00)Our plan B can be offensive to God (16:00)Modern day idolatries (21:15)"What have you done?!" A Heart-to-Heart About Sin: Prayer and Ways to Overcome

Man, God has done alot in my life and sharing some of those testimonies is vitally important. There's a tendency for Christians to only highlight the good in their life and deny that sinful things are happening in the background. This episode highlights this fact with a real-life example with my wrestling with sin. No matter how far we climb with God, we are all susceptible to something. It's better to be aware of it and submit it God, then to go on with life leaving it unaddressed. If you're currently wrestling with sin, this episode and prayer @ the end is especially recorded for you. If you know someone who is and cannot get free from whatever it is, please share this with them. We're in this together and more support from the body of Christ (instead of holier than thou judgement) is necessary these days.Cliff notes:Warming up (5:00)The heart of the matter (11:00)Intercessory prayer (26:30)IG: @JPBazemoreYoutube: J.P.
