Description

THINK Global School's newMedia Lab supports the development of effective communicators and efficient tech-users in a traveling high school environment. Audio labs are classes on the go, to support the acquisition of skills or contemplation of new ideas when classes can't meet IRL.

Join the TGS newMedia Lab through its podcast and take yourself through the public course on THINK Spot. In one term, you can become a more thoughtful creator and more tech-savvy student of the world!

Audio labs present the questions or ideas of the unit in 45 minutes or less. Students can expect 20 minute a week of listening time and are always welcome and encouraged to listen to more of the resources provided.

TGS students are professional documentarians in training–in some way, shape, or form–for the benefit of their future careers, which all will involve some level of communication and documentation of evidence. This episode explains the TGS expectation of etiquette when documenting things in the field, such as interviews, information from guides, etc. All students at TGS need to have a working knowledge of this expectation before they go on any weXplore trip or engage with any guest speaker/local expert. To dig deeper into the topics above, visit: Episode 2 on interview skills and audio ethics Episode 4 on citizen journalism and written ethics the Audio Journalism resource page your local World Literature teacher with in-depth knowledge of journalism, citation usage, transcription, etc. Thank you to @breynolds for her contribution to this episode.

This episode can help you begin to think through how you pitch yourself to a stranger... to a potential connection or maybe even a potential "investor." First you have to know how you feel about who you are and what you've done. As you form those sentences, make sure to be natural, speak to your listener so they care, give them opportunities to join, and leave them wanting more information about you. Enjoy this soundtrack by French Kiwi Juice, a mix made for "Eton Messy Records Presents..."
This audio lab features Bryan Lufkin of Wired magazine. Bryan is a trained journalist working in San Francisco and currently in the process of moving to NYC for a job at Fast Company. He lived and worked in Japan as an English teacher post-graduation and has an affinity for Japanese culture. He is a beautiful writer and has a lot to say about pop-culture, technology, travel, and gaming. In this episode, TGS students and faculty fueled this interview with their questions about journalism and education. A huge thank you to Bryan for his time, advice, and inspiration! This episode can help talk you through either the development or revision phase of your infographic production, reminding you of what makes an effective infographic. The acronym CHART highlights five attributes or keys to good infographic: contrast, hierarchy, accuracy, relevance, and truth. Enjoy this soundtrack by Tinush (of Berlin) called "Sommerregen."
In this episode, you will be asked to select a fact, figure, statistic, or reality about a recent world event (Ukraine and Venezuela for 2014 students) that lends itself to being visualized. This means that the effort put into making this information visual will be worth it for its enhanced ability to create understanding and potential recall for the viewer. This soundtrack pairing – a remix of Pharrell Williams' "Happy" by Mustafa M. Eisa – was inspired by this music video in response to the protests in Kiev in Feb 2014.
In this episode, I provide a teaser to the topic of infographics based on the Neomam infographic entitled 13 reason why your brain craves infographics. Consider how easy it is to ingest this information, and be on the lookout for a Confucius quote. Enjoy a closing soundtrack presented by LessThan3 and produced by KaNa called Tokyo Bliss - Guest List 36.
