Theatrical Shenanigans

Hello there and welcome to another episode of season 7 of Theatrical Shenanigans as we steer towards our half way point.    Today's play comes to us from Louisville based playwright Brad White (https://newplayexchange.org/users/83610/brad-white). Brad spent decades as an advertising creative director selling everything from beach vacations to bowling balls. Now he writes plays instead. His short plays have been produced and recognized at festivals and theatres across the USA. He writes comedies, dramas, and the occasional piece that makes audiences laugh one minute and feel slightly uneasy the next. Brad is drawn to stories about ordinary people and the strange, funny, and sometimes messy ways they reveal who they really are.   Brad's play is entitled "The Last Living Quimbly" (https://newplayexchange.org/script/3283461/the-last-living-quimbly) and when asked about his inspiration Brad says: "The inspiration for The Last Living Quimbly stems from the profound and often baffling nature of human belief. I find it fascinating how easily we bypass evidence—even when it directly contradicts our worldview—in favor of what we want to be true. In the world of the Quimbly, characters are driven by a deep, human need for hope and meaning. They aren't just believing in a myth; they are clinging to it because the alternative is a reality they aren't ready to face." Synopsis: In a struggling small town desperate for a miracle, eccentric Professor Winslow unveils a shocking discovery—the last living Quimbly, a rare and completely invisible creature that could put their town on the map. As skepticism turns to hysteria, belief becomes unstoppable, leading to bizarre rituals, mass chaos, and one mayor’s desperate attempt to stop the madness before it’s too late. Lynne Herrell is a California based playwright with a flair for sharp dialogue, vivid characters, and laugh-out-loud situations. Her work blends physical comedy with clever wordplay, creating theatrical experiences that are both accessible and memorable for diverse audiences. Drawing on her background in storytelling and performance as a community theatre actor and director, Lynne delights in crafting plays that are simple to produce yet rich with humour, making them ideal for everything from intimate staged readings to fully realized productions. When asked about her inspiration for “Order Up!” Lynne said: “I began developing Order Up! because I love putting wacky characters into ordinary places and watching the comedy unfold.” Synopsis: Chef once cooked for the rich and famous in New York City but now (after an incident) has been reduced to cooking burgers in a fast-food café, in England. James Rayfield has been a theatre educator, director, playwright, and occasional actor in the Tampa Bay area for many years. He taught for ten years at Blake High School for the Arts and currently teaches Adult Acting at American Stage. He has published several plays for the high school theatre including “Ten Actors in Search of a Cell Phone” which has had over 100 productions, including a production in Dutch in Amsterdam. His plays and monologues have also been produced at Manhattan Class Company, Studio@620, Radio Theatre Project, Stage Works, New Stage Theatre, and Expanded Arts Theatre. In Los Angeles he studied acting with Viola Spolin. James's play today is entitled "The Chatterbox Club".
