Episode 180 Andrew Vacante of Combust
A story long in the making. The young kid from staten island worked diligently in many bands, honing and crafting the songs and musicianship over years with little notice from the world. Yet once Combust took off, the energy and fury of classic New York Hardcore bellowed out of this new band and in the last few years finally started to get the notice and attention they deserve. They've crushed many solo tours, countless fests and we are happy to have them at TIHC 2026.

Episode 179 Jorge Rosado
As we close in on TIHC 2025, I got to speak with Jorge who is back once again playing This Is Hardcore.
We start at his beginnings, finding music and like minded individuals in the most NYC way possible. Over the course of the last 30 + years, Jorge has fronted a few lesser known bands and we talk a bit about it and then his joining Merauder for the legendary recording of Master Killer. Alot of emotion came out of this conversation and at times we touch back on things that may conceptually not be in line with the modern hardcore scene, but it all lays out the path and history of Jorge and what he went through.
Hope you enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed laughing and talking about older bands, metal and Jorge's many bands and aspirations.

Gary found hardcore through skateboarding at a young age. Finding his way to hardcore wasn't a straight line but the conversation takes us all over from early shows and finding music to starting Naysayer and the impact it had on his life.
Naysayer via EdgeWood records has a new EP , RAGE DREAMS, 5 songs, 10 minutes long.
They are playing This Is Hardcore Saturday August 9th in Philadelphia.

Episode 177 Shane of Fire In The Blood
Long before Fire In The Blood, Shane was cutting his teeth as most did finding local shows and the rest became history. Shane has been involved in the Central PA Hardcore scene for a long time, from booking shows, to playing in bands to generally just always being a recognized face within the community.
A few years back, Fire In the Blood broke out and began reigniting the fire in the Central PAHC area and has made a name for themselves over the past few years.
Fire In The Blood is playing Saturday August 9th as part of This Is Hardcore Fest 2025. They have a self released EP that is outstanding and they are going to tear the place apart.

Episode 176 Josh Grabelle - TRUSTKILL Book and HELLPHYRA Recap by TIHC Podcast
Episode 175 Deran of Sacred Path AZHC
Deran Martinez grew up in the Gila River Indian Community, finding hardcore very much the way many of our guests' have. As he was coming up in the Reservation, he was introduced to having to take care of things with his hands. This would come to help him as he was playing shows and finding his path to the mats and ring with MMA.
One of the coolest parts of the interview for me was Deran offering to get music from the other bands in his area out to the world. So we attached Two Guns and Heresy AZ songs alongside Sacred Path's track
Alot of hardwork has been laid by Deran and others to uplift their community and bring hardcore back in a strong way in Arizona. Recent shows and new kids have shown the world what a show at a boxing gym can be.
I had a great conversation with Deran and his experiences gave a deeper look into the indigenous hardcore kids and their lives on the reservations.
Check out and follow the bands.

Episode 170 Tom Brose of Confront
After trying to dig in on the Chubby Fresh episode and not getting deep enough, we were pointed towards Tom Brose, who would eventually connect with and bring many of the great 80's Revelation Bands and more to the area. Confront was a band started by kids in high school and were invested in the straight edge bands that were growing in popularity. Having a direct line of traffic as a major stop for most touring bands, starting Confront gave Tom, Steve Murad (Mean Steve later of OLC) and others like Outface - Charlie Garriga of Civ, Derrick Green of Sepultura and later Tony Erba and Face Value ample opportunities to play with a host of out of town bands. We go deep in Cleveland hardcore from as early as Tom could recall and we walk our way up to the 1st Integrity 7" , which soon after Tom moved to DC.
Tom's story is a classic and his ability to recollect details from the past allows the story to fully develop in the conversation.

This is an episode I've long been waiting for. I really hope you enjoy it. Mike's time in hardcore gives us a great look at the earliest roots of metallic hardcore, metalcore etc. We talk alot about the formation of All Out War, the Hudson Valley Hardcore Scene and much more as the timeline goes.
We even delve into his career as a teacher and his family life.
I'm really happy with how much we covered.

Episode 168 Chubby Fresh
A rising star in 2 bands in the 90s hardcore scene after coming up alongside the greats of the youthcrew movement, Chubby, Integrity and One Life Crew were poised to take over hardcore in a big way with Integrity on the victory roster and One Life Crew a few years later. Controversy would turn the fortune into folly and the chaotic, dramatic story of the bands unravel with beefs spreading across the midwest to NY and back.
I try to delve into some aspects of the bands, Chubbys own background and hear his perspective on everything that went down.

I got the gang together to talk about the fest, current state of hardcore and what comes next. I wanted to have some fun since we've had a solid run of solid episodes of more serious nature..
Bob Wilson and Greg Falchetto are truly a blessing to have as part of my team, and for being friends for over 20 years now. I am lucky to have their company and have their support and advice.

Episode 163 Frankie Poupolo of Wisdom In Chains
With This Is Hardcore just 3 weeks away, we bring the new member of Wisdom In Chains onto the show to talk about his excitement to be a part of the band. Frankie Poupolo another South Shore HC legend started coming down to our area with Death Before Dishonor. He would later start a project called Trust In Few, which Richie Krutch was a part of. Frankie is a family man and had to opt out of touring with DBD to work full time in a Union Sound/Stage Hand in the Boston area. He is absolutely one of the funniest guys you can run into as well as one of the most talented self taught musicians that I've ever met.
From the minute I hit record, I had a blast talking to my old friend about his backstory, his excitement for the new role in WiC and what to expect next.
I only wish I had more time to go deeper into the story, but he's a working man and took the podcast on his lunch break.

Episode 162 James Aloisio.of Ends Of Sanity and Unchained Mgmt.
We had James on earlier this year to talk about Overcome Fest but I wanted more time to go over his story. From Long Island and some early bands, he would rise to be one of the more influential behind the scenes booking agent and later manager to some of the most talked about Hardcore and Punk bands of the current day.
This is a great story about just finding opportunities, growing as a person and learning new skills and having the balls to give up a day job and just go for it.

Episode 161 Melissa Mastrangelo of Denied and All Shall Suffer
Melissa grew up in Queens at a perfect time for find herself at the beginning of a new age of NYHC. From Bulldoze to Denied and others, the beginning of a heavier focus brought about the foundation of what alot of modern hardcore kids and bands are focused on, the "Beatdown" sound. Her story is awesome and she is at the right place at the right time for so many great moments.
She has been a high school teacher for years but found time to start All Shall Suffer around the pandemic years and is playing This Is Hardcore this summer with Denied as part of their Reunion.
This is a fun conversation and lots of great memories come back having her on the show.
