Description
Do you remember what life was like back in high school? Before jobs, kids…student loans. Even if it didn’t seem like it at the time, life was great then. Our biggest worries were our Myspace Top 8 and if we’d get a virus from Limewire.
But then we graduated and grew up and here we are now wondering how we somehow became the adults. When did that happen? High school taught us a lot, but it could never teach us the things we could only learn from life. That’s what this podcast is about. Welcome to this isn’t high school.

About ten days ago, the board of trustees at Liberty University requested Jerry Falwell, Jr take an indefinite leave of absence. The decisions the board has made since Jerry has been on leave have made it fairly obvious there will be no long term change in the leadership of the University. With that in mind, and knowing Jerry will likely be back in his role within the next few weeks or months, I wanted to write an open letter to him on what I hope he can do with the future of the school I love. Waiting sucks. It’s not any fun at all. We have this idea of something that is coming - something we know we’re going to be a part of we believe is going to be great - but it’s not time yet. So what do we do? How do we not lose hope in the waiting? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
When society say you deserve whatever you want, whenever you want, and however you want it, it’s hard not to believe that’s the case. We get conditioned to believe this is the truth. But Jesus teaches something different, and it's the single biggest thing missing from American Christianity today. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Blindspots lay in the background and continue to grow and grow and grow until they suffocate the light. To get rid of them, we need a friend with a flashlight who can sit with us and shine a light on those dark places. It’s time to stop letting the darkness win and start getting to the fullness of who we were created to be. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Growing up, I was always told I could be anything I want to be. Everyone said to work hard and you can be anything you want to be. At 33, I think I've finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In today’s world, it feels like there’s this push back against Christians having an excess of money. This week's episode is about how we have a bad theology of money which leads to shame and judgment where it isn't needed. We also talk about our responsibilities as we begin to accumulate a little extra cash and what we should do with it. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Jesus said he came to give us life and life abundantly but instead we're stuck in mediocrely mundane lives because we've made following him much harder than it really has to be. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
If I'm honest, there are times when I'm standing in church and don't believe the words we're singing. Is that okay? Am I lying if I keep singing them even when I don't believe them? This week we talk about what to do when we don't agree with the words on the screen. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
It's hard growing up as the generation saddled by more debt than anyone else in recent history. But maybe that is actually setting us up to lead the way financially as we get older. This week we talk about the best ways to paying off debt and how, if we're smart, the lessons we're learning now will allow us to thrive as we get older. Recently someone I went to high school asked me if I had noticed how so many people our age were getting divorced and why it was happening. This week we talk about what makes a marriage that lasts, how our views of sex might be wrong, and what's causing all the divorces in our generation. We've all dreamt of doing something crazy and chasing after the big thing we've always wanted. But most of us never have the chance to do it. This week we talk to someone who made the leap, went viral in the process, and what he is learning through it all. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Nothing will ever prepare you for losing a parent. I'm releasing this episode on Mother's Day for all those who have lost their mom and are wondering if anyone knows what they're going through today. In this episode, we look back a little over a year after my mom died and talk about all the different feelings you go through as your parent gets sick, when they die, and what it's like after. One of the things we romanticize in the Christian world is following wherever God leads you. But what we don't talk about is that following Jesus anywhere is really freaking scary. It often leads to loneliness, doubt, and a lot of suck. So is it even worth it to say yes to what Jesus invites us to? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Our minds create toxic environments that trick us into believing things that aren't true. While our emotions and feelings are completely real, the way we interpret them may not be healthy or even correct. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
It was a lot easier to follow Jesus when we were kids. As adults, we lose the child like faith we once had and are now held back by the baggage we've gained growing up. Whether it's misunderstanding what we thought God was inviting us to do or recovering from being hurt by fellow Christians, being a Christian as an adult is a lot harder than it was when we were kids.
