The spring melt is coming before you know it and with that we have to drop the 'F' word. Flooding. Now, we're not talking about a raging river here, mostly chances of runoff with the spring melt.Twenty percent of flood insurance claims come from people with homes located outside of areas considered as high-risk, and soon, more of us in Minot will be considered “high-risk” by FEMA risk maps.As spring nears it's always a good time to evaluate your risk of flooding and if flood insurance is the correct option for you.
The infrastructure we lay out is important to our very way of life. This was highlighted in Texas as a historical winter storm wiped out the power grid and ultimately had rippling effects on many here. The City doesn't supply power but it does supply water to 80,000 to potentially 90,000 across the region.Our staff at Public Works are always trying to make sure any hiccup in production or distribution doesn’t put us in a bind rendering you without water.A major mitigating project to any potential supply issue has been ongoing for a generation. And thanks to fairly recent legal victories the conclusion is getting closer. t’s the Northwest Area Water Supply project.
