Description

Our parents got confused and chose chronically anxious over-thinkers for daughters.

Sowon Lee and Samantha Salvador give their perspectives (and hot takes) on societal phenomenons, mental health, pop culture and everything in between as they navigate life as late twenty-somethings cause let's be real... It's easier to exist in our heads than out in the real world sometimes. Here, is a safe space of discussing their opinions that range between 'totally understandable' to 'maybe slightly controversial' but you better believe, we're having a great time yapping about it.

Good afternoon thoughties! This week we’re talking about victim mentalities and how our tendencies to feel bad about ourselves perpetuate negative narratives. Sometimes, it takes tough love to be able to snap out of whatever reality we find ourselves in. Whether it’s understanding that no one else can save you from yourself or the way we keep negative stories alive by giving power to it over ourselves. We might not be able to change what other people do to us but we can only control what is in our scope of accountability. This episode gets deep as we talk about our cultural upbringing, inner child healing and setting boundaries. What’s up thoughties? This week we’re talking about how imposter syndrome has impacted us and how terrifying it can feel to be so sure of your dreams and at the same time feel like you doubt your own self’s capabilities. We get deep on our own histories of imposter syndrome and how, despite how we show up on this podcast, we still struggle sometimes with our own perceptions of self and how we show up in the world. Recently, we both went through a hypnotherapy session and we discuss the lessons we got out of connecting with our subconscious. We get giggly, serious, sentimental and more in this episode — pretty much sums up our experience being thought daughters. What’s up thoughties? Our filming days have been SO CHAOTIC lately but they’ve absolutely been the most fun to film. This week we’re talking about our opinions on social media, is it actually that deep or is it not? We discuss everything from the pursuit of art on the internet, negative sides of being online, performative friendships and why Sowon and Sam could never be full time influencers (tldr: we’re lazy sometimes ok). Sam discusses for the first time ever, her first time going viral and why the internet can be a scary place sometimes. While Sowon reflects on the importance of making an idea come to life at the right time. We also talk about how social media influences dating, why it’s a trigger for some relationships and how to tell if the guy you’re seeing has a wandering eye. Stay until the second half of the episode to hear us rant about friendship icks we have both on and offline and why you shouldn’t idolize people you think are cool on the internet. There’s a lottt of hot takes in this episode but we hope you can be open-minded and enjoy the discourse in this episode with us. What’s up thoughties? This week, we’re trying something new and diving into some philosophical questions regarding power, love, fear, morality, loyalty, education  and everything in between. These are some great questions to ask some of your closest friends/loved ones and chat all night about your own perceptions. Let us know what you think and if we should do more topic based discussions like these! What’s up thoughties? We’re back in America and finally back in our old set up. Today we’re talking all about masculine and feminine energies, whether that applies to dating or friendships. We touch on the importance of having a balance of both energies within your life, why dominant women trigger unsecured masculines and the cultural shift from the “boss, hustler” mentality to the soft life girlie. We also talk about presenting the idea to a partner that we don’t want a 50/50 relationship and our standards of having children with men. We also discuss the discourse between finding the “perfect partner” when we ourselves are imperfect people. As always, follow @thoughtdaughterpod across all socials and leave a comment/question in the Thought Box if you’d like us to talk about certain topics! What’s up thoughties? We’re coming at you live for the first time from Siargao, Philippines. Our brains were in total island vibes this episode so we have a slower pace of conversation this week but on this pod we catch you up on island life and spiritual beliefs. We had our soju, or birth charts, read while we were in Korea and we discuss superstitions, dark energy and our support for Elon Musk. Also our hot take of the week is: we think we should stop bagging on people who don’t travel outside of America since it’s freaking huge. Let’s talk about it! Welcome to Seoul, thoughties! For the first time ever, we’re switching up our usual set up to bring you guys internationally while we talk about our Korea experience: Sam as a two-time Seoul visitor and Sowon as a born and raised Korean-American. This episode is a bit all-over-the-place but that’s how we roll so what else is new? We discuss the impact of beauty standards as a minority and how impossible standards might sometimes lead to dangerous habits, our views on plastic surgery and if we would go under the knife, and how being an Asian-American has played a role in our development of selves. Tune into this episode to see who Sam’s K-Pop bias is and what Filipino food Sowon will dare to try. What’s up thoughties? This week we’re talking all things psychology and if you’re anything like us, this topic centers around a lot of curiosity and interest. We dissect Freudian ideologies like The Iceberg Model, Madonna-Whore and dream analysis. And we get into fun (potentially taboo, definitely weird) topics like do we find attraction in partners who remind us of our parents? Do dreams give us hints of intuition? Does it really take understanding the worst parts of yourself in order to truly evolve into a better person? Tune into this week’s episode to find out our thoughts. Hi thoughties! Welcome back to another episode and this one, full disclaimer, is a bit of a rant of all the Tiktok drama that’s unfolding. From Sophia La Corte to Amaya Colon, homewrecking and dating your friend’s partners is a BIG topic in the public eye at the moment. So what better time is it to talk about the unspoken girl code rules of dating the same guy, being eskimo sisters with girls who drop friends when they have a man. We fully unpack some situations that have transpired in our own lives and talk about reaching our breaking point in emotionally draining friendship cycles. Which thought daughter are you more like: Sam or Sowon? Let us know! This week, the girls dive into the overarching topic of the multiverse and manifesting. We know these have been huge topics over the past few years so we unpack the details of what it means to “manifest your dream life” and “call in your soulmate” — whether that’s predetermined or something left to chance, we don’t actually know but it’s fun to speculate. In this episode we talk about our ideas and beliefs around the philosophical topics of many lives happening all at once, the laws of the universe and learning how to tap into a higher frequency. *Trigger Warning: SA / Coercion* This week’s episode is a real, raw conversation around the discourse of sex and shame and the narratives around both that is perpetuated in society. The girls discuss double standards in how lust/desire is viewed from a man’s standpoint vs a woman’s, how romance is a dying art form, and unpacking situational violence after the trauma has already transpired. They also break down the power of limerence, navigating objectification in the dating world and how to discern whether someone is lovebombing you or is genuinely interested. If you’re seeking to understand the latent subtopics behind sex, shame, lust and desire, this will be the episode you tune in for. This week, we are being very unserious. After a failed filming day, we decided to make the best out of a sh*tty situation by posting this disclaimer episode where everyone gets to see us go through a manic, giggly episode in real time. Because while we love deep talks, sometimes… It’s just not that serious and all you need is a good laugh with your girlies. (We’re very sorry for the audio listeners on this one, this will probably be best watched on YT!)
This week, Sam and Sowon explore the underlying themes of being the eldest daughter. Everything from forming strong female relationships to feeling first-generation guilt about chasing your dreams, explaining the creative journey to your parents and simultaneously learning how to forgive them for their short-comings - this week’s episode weighs a little heavier than normal but that’s okay! It’s what we’re here for. We hope that in listening to this episode, we can encourage you to think about how familial roles and pressures have formed a cornerstone of your identity, and how that has impacted you as you move through life today.
