This is the first time we see the substitution of a sacrifice that will be a model for Christ's substitution for believers on the cross. Understanding the story of Abraham's call to sacrifice Isaac and God instead providing for the sacrifice is the key to understanding God's plan of salvation through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ.
