Mandalorian Musings

Mandalorian Musings

2020-01-2735:44

We have been gone for a while on a long hiatus due to life issues, but we're back!  In this episode we talk about the Disney+ series "The Mandalorian".  Caution, because this episode has spoilers.  We waited a while to talk about it because by now YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN IT ALL!  It's great.  We talk about some inside info about the series from a true Star Wars fan perspective, from a casual viewer perspective, and aggregate all the rumors we've heard online for you.  We also offer some speculation as to what might be in the future for season 2.
Solo You Can't Hear Us

Solo You Can't Hear Us

2018-06-0326:24

We provide a spoiler-free review of "Solo: A Star Wars Story" and that sends us down the rabbit hole about Star Wars movies in general. We also review the movie of the week, the most depressing vehicle for Arnold ever: "Aftermath".
In this episode we first honor our Veterans on Memorial Day, but we also mourn the demise of some of our favorite TV shows which were cancelled. The movie of the week is: "Batman Ninja".
In this episode we provide a spoiler-free review of "Deadpool 2" and then we discuss the movie of the week: HBO's "Fahrenheit 451". We spend a little extra time on the movie of the week because we really believe that the film should have been a miniseries. Tune in to find out why.
Richard is so tired of video game companies releasing games only to bait-and-switch us with game content you have to purchase after buying the game. Also Loot Boxes. Check out this episode for a rant on these topics. Also...Movie of the Week is "Demon Hole".
Avengers Disassemble!

Avengers Disassemble!

2018-05-0733:24

We saw "Avengers: Infinity War" but we know that some of you probably haven't seen it and some of you have. We decided to offer the best of both worlds so we will offer a spoiler-free review complete with a box office breakdown because this thing has broken some HUGE records. We then offer our Movie of the Week: "Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay" followed by our spoilery review where we discuss several aspects of the film and what they might mean.
Danger, Will Robinson!

Danger, Will Robinson!

2018-04-3014:31

In this episode we review the Netflix series treatment of "Lost In Space", where Dr. Smith is not the Dr. Smith you are used to. We also tell you about a horrific waste of celluloid called "2307: Winter Dreams".
We attended a local free convention ("Contempcon") which was a comic book and art convention here in Oklahoma City. Roger learned that he could network with some pretty talented people and Richard was just glad the thing was free. We hung out with artist Jerry Bennett and talked to Jeff Provine, editor of Okie Comics. Movie of the week: "Revolt".
On this special episode, we do a solid for a friend. "Kurt" is a Uygur from East Turkistan, a place where the Chinese are perpetrating atrocities of holocaust level on this noble people. "Kurt" gives us an eye-witness account of the horrors being committed by the Chinese government and also what you can do to help with the humanitarian effort. We know this show isn't about science-fiction or pop culture, but we love "Kurt" so much and want the world to know about what is not being reported in the news.
This week's show features our new special guest! "Kurt" is a refugee who became a citizen in 2011. He will be sharing his story next week and you need to tune in to listen to that for sure. He went to see "A Quiet Place" with us, and we also review a Turkish film (Movie of the Week) "G.O.R.A.". Be sure to tune in next week when "Kurt" tells us about the atrocities occurring in his home country and what you can do about it. Yeah, this isn't really science fiction or geek culture, but it's important to us because we love "Kurt!"
On this episode, Richard reviews "Lego Movie 2" (because Roger didn't have time to see it due to stuff and things) and then we talk about the shows we are enjoying right now and why you should watch them.  Also, our movie of the week is a lovely Blumhouse gem on Hulu called "New Year, New You".  It's a twisty-turny horror film that just takes the premise of "Mean Girls" to it's logical conclusion... if it were directed by a horror director.
Wyvern?! Whyyyyyy?!

Wyvern?! Whyyyyyy?!

2019-02-0415:02

We devoted an entire episode to our Movie of the Week: "Wyvern" (2009).  It was Don S. Davis's last performance in a film, but we are really scratching our heads over this one.  Tune in and listen to us discuss this amazingly horrible dragon film.  ... or is it a Drake?  ... Or is it a Wyrm.  Not sure because the CGI was so bad.
We finally finished "The Punisher" season 2 on Netflix.  We provide (as always) a spoiler-free review of it.  What we are more excited about is finding this week's "Retro Pilot Review".  It's a little show that never made it past the pilot, but was written by Conan O'Brien and Robert Smeigel, starring none other than Adam West.  1991's gem of a comedy series pilot: "Lookwell!"
A Glass Spaceship

A Glass Spaceship

2019-01-2230:43

We provide a spoiler-free review of M. Night Shyamalan's "Glass" and discuss the film's place in the trilogy and why it is worth seeing.  GO SEE IT!  Also, our movie of the week is "Space Raiders", a Roger Corman classic that may have inspired Joss Whedon's "Firefly".
We've been away for a while, mainly due to illness, but we've returned to finally review "Aquaman".  We also talk for a bit about films and television that we loved and hated last year.  We also discuss films and television that we are looking forward to viewing and reviewing this year.
Christmas Special 2018

Christmas Special 2018

2018-12-2521:53

Merry Christmas, true believers!  On this episode we watched three of the worst Christmas specials ever so that you don't have to.  We recommend one of them, though, for the sheer unintentional laugh-factor it produces.  'Cause after all, you need some Christmas cheer.
All Things Spiderman!

All Things Spiderman!

2018-12-1719:44

On this episode we review the newest Spiderman iteration: "Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse". We also discuss the PS4 Spiderman game and why it might be the best game in years. It also brought a tear to Richard's eye.
We lament the fact that Netflix has cancelled nearly all of their Marvel shows... including DAREDEVIL! WHAT? We review "Wreck It Ralph 2" and the movie of the week: "Pulse" from 1988.
We went to see the new J.J. Abrams produced "Overlord" and offer our spoiler-free review. Our retro pilot of the week is "Time Tunnel"... Not that garbage 2002 reboot, kids! The REAL thing!
