Moses Sithole is a South African serial killer and rapist who committed the ABC Murders. It is believed that he is so named because they began in Atteridgeville, continued in Boksburg and finished in Cleveland, a suburb of Johannesburg. Sithole murdered at least 37 women and one toddler between 16 July 1994 and 6 November 1995. Sithole was sentenced to 2,410 years imprisonment and is currently incarcerated in Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein.
In just two years, 6 girls (and potentially many more) disappeared without a trace from Johannesburg sending panic through the town. The alledged perpetrators would be a middle-aged couple- whom no one suspected. In one of South Africa’s most famous semi-solved cold cases- today I explore the narrative of Gert Van Rooyen, Joey Haarhof & the missing girls.
Wassup! I'm back with another episode, and this week I talk about living in South Africa and how it is sometimes necessary to put some distance between oneself and the surrounding political climate, where possible. I also speak about the double consciousness a lot of us often find ourselves in where we struggle to deal with our appreciation and nostalgic love for an artist when confronted with unsettling knowledge about their personal conduct. Enjoy!
On this episode I talk about my ambitions for creating a life that allows me to have consistent creative discipline, how a mosquito bite led me to think about the dynamics of how we understand and relate to the concept of Karma on an individual & global scale, and I reflect on the Mother City Comedy Festival and stand-up comedy in South Africa.
