This week on Thumb War, Jason & Rachel dive into Alien: Earth Episode 6, “The Fly.” From Joe’s patronizing dialogue to Wendy’s unsettling xeno-conversations, we unpack whether this mid-season episode holds up—or tanks the momentum. We also detour into plenty of entertainment news: the Degrassi TIFF doc, Alan Ritchson & Shailene Woodley’s Motor City, Sydney Sweeney’s boxing drama Christie, Emmy buzz for Survivor, and Andrew Santino’s Disney-edited comedy special. 👉 Subscribe, leave us a 5-star review ⭐️ Subscribe to our Patreon! http://bit.ly/44Mo8xU 📩 Send us an email! In this episode of Thumb War, Jason and Rachel break down Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing (2025) — a violent, surreal New York crime thriller starring Austin Butler, Zoe Kravitz, Regina King, and Bad Bunny. We go deep into: The book-to-film adaptation by Charlie Huston Aronofsky’s obsession with real-world consequences of violence The soundtrack (Clash, Idles, 90s needle drops) Hank’s trauma and “nice guy in a nightmare” theme Scene-stealing turns from Bad Bunny and the Russian mobsters Why this might be Aronofsky’s weirdest mainstream film yet Full spoilers throughout.
The Thumb War crew dives into Alien: Earth Episode 5 (“In Space No One…”), unpacking all the chaos aboard the USCSS Maginot — facehuggers, sabotage, and Morrow’s rise as the anti-hero we love to fear. But before the xenomorph bloodbath, we hit Trailer Trash with some huge entertainment news: Daniel Day-Lewis ends his 8-year retirement with a new film (and Sean Bean co-stars!) Glen Powell in Chad Powers (can he shake the Hit Man baggage?) Ridley Scott balancing Gladiator 3 and more Alien prequels Batman casting rumors (Alan Ritchson as the Dark Knight?) Plus: the gory sequel Sisu 2: Road to Revenge Whether you’re here for Alien lore, movie news, or chaotic hot takes — we’ve got you covered. We’re calling it: Alien: Earth Episode 4 is the strongest yet. Creepy doll heads, Wendy’s wild brain-trip, and a swimmer xenomorph that might be island-bound — we’ve got theories, breakdowns, and a whole lot of yelling. PLUS in this episode: — Emma Stone in Begonia looks amazing —  Guillermo del Toro drops a Frankenstein trailer — We survived The Roses (barely) — Amy Adams joins Starfighter — but do we really need more Mando babysitting? —  Taylor + Kelce: sure, why not It’s recaps, rants, and pop-culture chaos — just how we like it. This one’s for the P-Hounds only — and wow, do we get feral. JD retells the legend of a friend who ate 36 Krispy Kremes in a single day — a tale of gluttony, shame, and heroic replenishment runs. We spiral into Donut Daddy mukbang hell (yes, he sticks his fingers in them). Rachel relives flight trauma with a sweaty cigar-stained kilt man and a bag-bin bandit who deserved the death penalty. Plus: panic-ordering salads at LaGuardia, pit stain reveals, and an AMA that somehow turns into a Coen Brothers bus-driver mobster pitch. It’s chaos. It’s gross. It’s oddly arousing (don’t ask). It’s Thumb War at its most unhinged. If you’re reading this and you’re not a Patron? You’re missing the donut dump of the century. Subscribe to our Patreon! http://bit.ly/44Mo8xU Send us an email! We just watched Honey Don’t — twice — and still can’t believe how bad it was. Directed by Ethan Coen and co-written with Tricia Cooke, the film stars Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Evans, and Charlie Day in what should have been a stylish neo-noir. Instead, it’s a messy, over-sexed, and painfully misguided movie that left us frustrated, confused, and honestly kind of angry. In this episode of Thumb War, we break down exactly why Honey Don’t doesn’t work — from the awkward sex scenes, one-note characters, and forced political gags, to the wasted performances of a stellar cast. We also compare it to Drive-Away Dolls, Bound, and even classic Coen Brothers films like Fargo and No Country for Old Men to highlight just how far this one misses the mark. Spoilers throughout. We also talk representation, Ethan & Joel Coen’s split, and why this film feels like a wasted “blank check” project. If you saw Honey Don’t, did you hate it as much as we did? Send us an email! This week on Thumb War, we dive into Alien: Earth Episode 3, breaking down the mysterious bond between Marcy, Queen Wendy, and the Xenomorphs — plus all the chaos that came with the flashing lights, wild sound design, and that divisive Maggot Brain music cue. But first, in our Trailer Trash / Entertainment News segment, we cover: New details on Stranger Things 5 and the Duffer Brothers’ upcoming projects The Burrows and Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen Quentin Tarantino’s “final” film plans, David Fincher stepping in for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2, and why Tarantino might never really retire Eddie Murphy stepping into the role of Inspector Clouseau in a new Pink Panther reboot The upcoming Highlander remake starring Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, and Dave Bautista First impressions of Netflix’s Black Rabbit with Jude Law & Jason Bateman Then, we circle back for a full Alien: Earth Ep 3 recap & review — including what’s working, what’s frustrating, and where we think the story is headed. Is Happy Gilmore 2 just a shameless sequel or a heartfelt tribute to a comedy classic? The Thumb War crew dives into the Netflix hit with hot takes on Adam Sandler’s evolution, Shooter McGavin’s epic arc, and all those ridiculous celebrity cameos (looking at you, Travis Kelce). We also unpack the real story behind Ozzy Osbourne’s bat-biting legacy, discuss Caddyshack vs. Gilmore, and chat about upcoming releases like Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Doomsday, and Coyote vs. Acme in Trailer Trash. Did we laugh? Did we cringe? Did we get misty-eyed at the Sandman’s surprisingly tender moments? Yes, yes, and weirdly… yes. Email us: ThumbWarPod@gmail.com Join the Patreon: Hangouts are BACK! Fantastic Four: First Steps isn’t just another superhero reboot — it’s about family. This week on Thumb War, JD is joined by very special guest Jeshua Kidd (No Dunks, The Athletic) to break down Marvel’s latest MCU installment — a retro, cosmic, heartstring-tugging space race where Reed Richards might as well be Dom Toretto with a PhD. Subscribe to our Patreon for AD-FREE Episodes: http://bit.ly/44Mo8xU We talk: Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (our stretchy dad) Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm Julia Garner as a Silver Surfer with real menace Baby Franklin and the most awkward press conference of all time Galactus, teleporting planets, and how science is the new nitrous Plus: Reactions to Avatar: Fire & Ash, Tron Ares, Predator: Badlands and Caught Stealing Jared Leto discourse, again What happened to John Malkovich and the super apes subplot? Spoilers from the jump. Because, in the words of Dominic Toretto… it's all about family. Leave us a five-star review wherever you get your pods Email: thumbwarpod@gmail.com
We kick off with a haunted waitress and end up baptizing strangers in lakes — which honestly says a lot about this episode. Jason may or may not have been covertly baptized by a rogue Catholic. Rachel wears a wet t-shirt (kind of). Plus: Emmy nomination chatter, ghost gossip, and a passionate defense of Slow Horses. This one’s got spirits — both supernatural and awards-season related. ⭐️ Subscribe to our Patreon to hear the FULL EPISODE: http://bit.ly/44Mo8xU
On this week’s Thumb War, we revisit the world of horny, doomed teens and ask the question: what if they were even dumber… and older? Yes, it’s the legacy sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer, and it’s back with the original cast, zero shame, and a whole lot of questionable decisions. We dive into why this movie exists, how it compares to Scream and Top Gun: Maverick, and whether legacy sequels are just nostalgia traps covered in blood (and denim). Also: Wicked looks incredible — even if the press tour made us want to eat glass The Smashing Machine might break your heart and Dwayne Johnson Shaq is owed an 18-foot Superman crystal Christopher Nolan has fans buying IMAX tickets for movies that don’t even exist yet ...and yes, we’re still mad about the soup-slurping Aronofsky trailer.
