Description

This podcast breaks up BIG health topics, like MTHFR and methylation, into small, easy bites. All in ten minutes or less.
We'll discuss why folic acid can be toxic, how the MTHFR enzyme links to estrogen and toxins, why you want to turn genes off, and how folate and mental health are connected. 2024-2025 will add new "bonus" episodes to Season 1 to clarify and revise concepts while Dr. Amy is writing a book.

Problems with oxygenation can affect your sleep quality and quantity, leaving you feeling tired, or like you slept but woke up as tired as you were the night before, or just plain exhausted.Iron deficiency and carbon monoxide poisoning are both oxygen problems, not that we think of them that way, but many oxygen problems are more subtle. The classic oxygen problem overnight is sleep apnea, which causes you to wake up through the night becuase you stop breathing momentarily.Mouth breathing at night also impairs oxygen and leads to fatigue, low energy, and a poor night's sleep. My favorite solution to this problem is mouth taping.00:00 - Intro00:40 - Iron deficiency and carbon monoxide poisoning01:55 - Sleep Apnea02:21- Types of Sleep Apnea03:08 - Sleep apnea treatment03:36 - Sinuses and fatigue04:07 - Mouth breathing and fatigue05:15 - Why mouth breathing causes fatigue05:45 - Three differences between breathing through your nose and mouth07:05 - Fix mouth breathing with mouth tapingThanks so much for for watching or listening. MTHFR Stories are interviews with regular people who have MTHFR and are willing to share their health journey to help others. Mary's MTHFR journey centers around pregnancy loss with several second-trimester miscarriages and a stillbirth. She bravely talks about the exhaustion that she has struggled with after such a deep physical toll was taken on her body by the pregnancies, and the emotional journey she has been on. Mary has other issues associated with MTHFR as well including hypermobility and hypothyroidism, both of which contributed to her difficult pregnancies. Mary's journey is a reminder to women to advocate for themselves, not to blindly trust it when your doctor says "it's normal," and to do their own research about recommendations, such as 5 mg of folic acid for women struggling with infertility who also have MTHFR gene mutations. 00:46 - Mary and MTHFR01:46 - Hypermobility and MTHFR02:29 - Bad reactions to methylfolate (migraines)03:15 - More about hypermobility04:14 - Pregnancy loss and infertility with MTHFR06:04 - Hypothyroidism, MTHFR and stillbirth06:53 - Nutritional deficiencies08:05 - MTHFR is linked to all of these - infertility, multiple pregnancy loss, hypermobility, and hypothyroidism.09:04 - Raising awareness for women10:15 - Emotional impact of pregnancy loss11:30 - The societal value of childless women12:25 - problems with 5mg folic acid as a fertility intervention with MTHFRHere is a link to Mary's full-length interview: https://youtu.be/kw3srswszyEThanks so much for watching! Lisa's story is a testament to what having a community of people can do for your health journey. Lisa touches on many familiar MTHFR issues - allergies, impatience, food sensitivities, blood sugar imbalance, struggles with weight, lip tie, and perfectionism. In Season 4, Episode 21 of the To Health With That podcast, naturopathic doctor Amy Neuzil discusses strategies to combat fatigue by focusing on adrenal health. The episode covers the concept of adrenal fatigue, identifying it in various phases, and introduces a holistic approach to healing the adrenals, emphasizing the role of supplements such as Vitamin C, Magnesium, B Vitamins, and melatonin, along with a special focus on adaptogens like Siberian ginseng, ashwagandha, and holy basil. Neuzil stresses the importance of incorporating these supplements alongside necessary lifestyle changes to prevent the eventual collapse of adrenal health. Additionally, fat-soluble antioxidants are highlighted as beneficial for individuals experiencing adrenal fatigue. The episode serves as a comprehensive guide to understanding and managing adrenal fatigue, but Neuzil reminds listeners to consult healthcare professionals before starting any medical regimen and acknowledges the recovery process is a slow, diligent journey akin to the duration of time taken to develop adrenal fatigue.GENETIC ROCKSTARS (an MTHFR community): community.tohealthwiththat.comFREE COURSE: MTHFR Basics: https://www.tohealthwiththat.com/free-toolsWEBSITE: https://tohealthwiththat.com/ AFFILIATE LINKS: I appreciate you using these links to purchase products you would buy anyway, because they allow me to keep putting information out there. In season four of the 'To Health With That' podcast, hosted by naturopathic doctor Amy Noozle, the focus shifts to understanding and combating fatigue, with a specific emphasis on adrenal fatigue. This episode discusses the importance of healing your adrenals from phase two (tired but wired) or phase three (burning down) without the immediate use of adrenal hormones or supplements, reserving such treatments for more severe cases. Doctor Neuzil emphasizes lifestyle changes as a crucial step towards adrenal recovery, advocating for consistent sleep schedules, reducing screen time before bed, ensuring exposure to bright light in the morning, and adjusting dietary habits to support adrenal health. The significance of mindset and doing less than one is capable of to avoid further stress on the adrenals is highlighted as the hardest yet most vital part of recovery. In this episode of the 'To Health With That' podcast, host Amy Neuzil, a naturopathic doctor, explores adrenal fatigue, a widespread issue attributed to the constant stress of modern life. The episode delves into the four stages of adrenal fatigue: 'Crushing it,' where individuals feel highly productive and energized due to high cortisol levels; 'Tired but wired,' marked by emerging fatigue and anxiety; 'Burning down,' where symptoms worsen, including greater fatigue and sleep issues; and 'Burned out,' a phase of significant functional impairment. Neuzil emphasizes the importance of early detection and intervention to prevent reaching the burnout stage. The episode aims to educate listeners on recognizing the signs of adrenal fatigue and offers a lead into the next episode, which will focus on non-hormonal strategies for nourishing and healing the adrenals.GENETIC ROCKSTARS (an MTHFR community): community.tohealthwiththat.comFREE COURSE: MTHFR Basics: https://www.tohealthwiththat.com/free-toolsWEBSITE: https://tohealthwiththat.com/ AFFILIATE LINKS: I appreciate you using these links to purchase products you would buy anyway, because they allow me to keep putting information out there. Understanding and Addressing Adrenal FatigueAdrenal fatigue is everywhere in modern culture, but why is that? It comes down to the difference between threats in our ancestral (geneticly adapted) cultures and threats in modern life. Dr. Amy explains the role of the adrenal glands, located like hats on the kidneys, in secreting hormones that regulate our stress response and circadian rhythms. She discusses how modern stressors, unlike ancestral dangers, continuously trigger our fight or flight response without the necessary physical release, leading to what is commonly referred to as adrenal fatigue. Symptoms range from overwhelming fatigue to more severe conditions like Addison's disease in extreme cases. The episode finishes with a mention of Debbie Moon's book, 'Histamine Life Hacks,' recommending it for further reading on histamine issues. Future episodes promise to explore the stages of adrenal fatigue, its impact on health, and potential recovery strategies.00:00 - Intro00:29 - Diving Deep into Adrenal Fatigue01:00 - Understanding Your Adrenals: The Basics03:25 - The Modern World vs. Our Adrenal Health05:39 - Symptoms and Testing for Adrenal Fatigue08:20 - A Quick Book Recommendation: Histamine Life Hacks08:59 - Looking Ahead: Navigating Adrenal FatigueHere's the amazong link (affiliate) for Histamine Lifehacks: https://amzn.to/3QtduV5Thanks for watching this video! Doing a good detox protocol takes some preparation and some of the best preparation you can do is finding out if your genes are making detoxification harder for you somewhere. Some gene SNPs have the potential to make detox harder by interfering with phase two conjugation reactions. These include MTHFR, MTR, MTRR, GST, GPX, COMT, HNMT, UGT1A1, SULT genes, NAT1, and NAT2.With each category of gene SNP, I will also give suggestions for improving that aspect of your phase two detoxification reactions.00:00 - Intro00:49 - Why SNPs matter and how to test 02:08 - Genes that affect methylation and how to help02:46 - Genes that affect glutathione and how to help03:38 - Genes that affect sulfation and how to help04:20 - Genes that affect glucuronidation and how to help05:52 - Genetic Rockstars walkthrough07:42 - Genes that affect acetylation and how to help08:11 - Amino acid conjugationThanks so much for for watching or listening. Detoxification Basics

Detoxification Basics

2024-03-2411:07

In the last episode, we discussed the fact that toxins come from food, air, water, personal care products, and pretty much everything we encounter. Detoxification is an ongoing process that is always at work in your body. Here are the basics about how detoxification happens, what resources your body needs, and why it sometimes feels yucky.Detoxification happens in three phases.
