We envision a future for our world that is grounded in justice, and we are committed to leading for justice through a focus on innovation, excellence, collaboration, and community. Deeply grounded in inclusion, intersectionality, diversity, equity, and advancement, this podcast explores a variety of topics pertinent to social workers and social work students working towards progress.

Today, our host, Samantha Michaele, is speaking with Chiara Sabina, associate professor at Rutgers School of Social Work, Chancellor’s Scholar for Inclusive Excellence in Interpersonal Violence Research, and Associate Director of the Center for Research on Ending Violence. Dr. Sabina’s research centers on interpersonal victimization, especially intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and dating violence among Latine community members. Founded in 2007 at the Rutgers School of Social Work, the Center for Research on Ending Violence, or REV, strives to eliminate all forms of violence and the power imbalances that permit them. REV accomplishes their mission through a collaborative approach that focuses on multidisciplinary research, education, and community engagement. Today, our host, Samantha Michaele, is speaking with Josue Hidalgo, Project Coordinator at Rutgers School of Social Work. Josue has a B.A. in Psychology from Pillar College and an M.S.W. in Management and Policy from Rutgers University. Throughout his career, Josue has worked in different social work settings including domestic violence advocacy, immigrant rights advocacy, public library system and the New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services. As a Project Coordinator within the Rutgers School of Social Work Center for Prevention Science, Josue dedicates most of his time to the Northeast and Caribbean Prevention Technology Transfer Center focused on providing technical assistance to New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Today, our host, Samantha Michaele, is speaking with Emily Greenfield, professor at Rutgers School of Social Work and Director of the Hub for Aging Collaboration. Dr. Greenfield is an internationally recognized scholar and leader within the aging-in-community movement. Her community-engaged scholarship seeks to bolster community-based efforts toward more equitable opportunities for long and healthy lives. Through her leadership, the Rutgers Hub for Aging Collaboration was formally established in September 2022 which works to advance excellence in collaborative research, teaching, and engagement it’s goal to improve social contexts for aging and health equity. The Hub serves as a nexus to strengthen networks among community leaders, researchers, service providers, policymakers, and others toward innovation and leadership for aging in community. Fueled by the social work value of leveraging social relationships for change, the team works across disciplines and sectors to improve environments for aging equity among individuals, families, and communities in all of their diversity. Dr. Nower is also a Distinguished Professor and serves as Associate Dean for Research for the school. A clinician and attorney, she specializes in gambling disorder and related harm and co-directs the Rutgers Addiction Counselor Training Certificate (ACT) Program, which provides training toward licensure in drug and alcohol counselors.
