By popular request (two people emailed!) I've added a little more to last week's LONDON FOR BEGINNERS episode. It saddens me to visit London now and see how different it has become to the London I knew so well back then. But then, I suppose that was to be expected. This episode concludes the topic and shares some more of theose wonderful early first impressions from 1965, when London was the world music capital and the place where it was a . happening.
When I was a boy, growing up in Cape Town, South Africa, I had always been raised by my British parents to think of the UK as 'home', and I supposed that it was inevitable that one day I would land up there. But when I saw London for the first time, I was stunned to find that it was almost exactly as I had always imagined it would be. For a boy of 15 in the mid-60s, to be turned loose in this world capital of music and all that appealed to young people was an overwhelming adventure.Come with me, and I'll take you there.
Moving from one country to another, if properly done, can be a breeze. Or, if you do it the way we did, it can be a nightmare of red tape, frustrations and delays. Join me, Mrs Innfield and our two cats on our recent fraught migration from Cape Town, South Africa, to Germany - and learn how not to do it.
