TRAINS of THOUGHT is a new podcast, and will be broadcast live every day at 10am CET from 1 January 2020. Running time is as long as it takes. The project of a long-time (till recently) national network radio host and freelance journalist with a daily three-hour programme, the podcast looks at anything and everything, with a warm and inviting presence but also with a dry, sardonic and wry sense of humour. There will be crits and reviews as well, but the fare consists chiefly of travel, consumer issues, social comment, politics, so-called celebrity culture (my favourite target), conspicuous consumerism and a lot more. Intelligent radio for all, you might say, and there'll be chat opportunities during the programme. Make TRAINS OF THOUGHT a part of your daily podcast programme!

By popular request (two people emailed!) I've added a little more to last week's LONDON FOR BEGINNERS episode. It saddens me to visit London now and see how different it has become to the London I knew so well back then. But then, I suppose that was to be expected. This episode concludes the topic and shares some more of theose wonderful early first impressions from 1965, when London was the world music capital and the place where it was a . happening.
When I was a boy, growing up in Cape Town, South Africa, I had always been raised by my British parents to think of the UK as 'home', and I supposed that it was inevitable that one day I would land up there. But when I saw London for the first time, I was stunned to find that it was almost exactly as I had always imagined it would be. For a boy of 15 in the mid-60s, to be turned loose in this world capital of music and all that appealed to young people was an overwhelming adventure.Come with me, and I'll take you there.
