This week on Trapping Across America we have a fun and interesting show with Andy Weiser from Weiser Western Lures. He started out in Ohio and ended up out west trapping coyotes. I love this story for one major reason, Andy wanted to be a western coyotes trapper and he just went for it. Now that takes a steel pair! One thing I liked about how Andy traps is non-complicated and down to earth. He really seems to know predators and coyote locations.
Interview with Dustin Drews, government trapper.
This Week on Trapping Across America I am talking about full-time trapping. Is it for you? That is up to you to decide. I was going to do a demo on this subject at Little Valley, but was not able to make it. I wish I could have and I was looking forward to it. The reason I could not make it to Little Valley is because I broke a few of my ribs unloading my van from NTA. Trapping full-time is a dream for a lot of trappers. It can be a great life for the right folks and a nightmare for some. It is best to go into full-time trapping with your eyes open, not closed as you dream about it.
In this week's episode, we have a long time friend of the show, Chip Davis joins Jeff Dunlap this week to discuss the NTA convention in Harrisonburg, VA. Chip interviews Rusty Kramer, incoming president for the NTA.
This week on Trapping Radio we have a great interview with Gerald Schmitt from Schmitt Enterprises. How to trap and catch mink, raccoons and muskrats, no that is not right, how to trap and catch a ton of mink, raccoons and muskrats. Gerald has caught over 700 mink…..that is not a typo…….several hundred raccoons and muskrats in a single trapping season
This week on Trapping Across America we are covering a lot of trapping topics. We will cover and talk about using slide cables and slide chains for coyotes, the laws and crazy things the Maine trappers are dealing with concerning bear hunting with dogs, over baits and bear trapping. My new Portable Pocket DVD. Then we have a round table with all the guys from Trapping TV. We look at our trapping season and where we plan on taking Trapping TV next year. This is a long show, partly because I will be at the NTA next week. Hope to see everyone there.
This week on Trapping Radio we are talking about trapping and catching raccoon on creeks, rivers and rocky streams with canoes and small boats. Scott Webb is on the hot seat tonight. He is from North east Iowa. I have known Scott for many years, he is a very practical and a logical trapper. He uses a canoe on a nice smaller river and catches his raccoon with footholds, dog proof traps and a few body grip traps.
In this week's episode, Jeff Dunlap talks about how we did on selling our bobcats- the mistakes we made. Discusses conventions this summer and lessons from watching game cameras. Enjoy!
This week on Trapping Across America we have Ryan Schaefer from the great state of Louisiana. Just like always he is fired up, a ball of energy and fun to listen to. We are talking about mink, otter and beaver trapping. Ryan mage an epic mink catch last year with only a few dozen traps. I think he has got this mink trapping down with BMI body grip traps. In the middle of everything, we get into how trappers can catch more fur. You do not want to mis this trapping radio podcast. It’s educational and over the top entertaining with Ryan.
This week on Trapping Across America we are looking at how to trap mink with a pocket set. Some lessons I learned from Red O’ Hearn, Gerald Schmitt, Matt Jones and Johnny Thorpe. I am not a big mink trapper, let me clear the air with that. I catch mink when I want to, but I have never concentrated on them in a big way. I am more of the blind set guy myself, Matt Jones and Johnny Thorpe showed me a simple and fast way to trap and catch mink, the mostly over looked blind set.I also go into a trapping question about my drag and trap set up for bobcats. This question has come up a lot from my Cat Collector DVD. Then we spend a few moments talking about changing the mind of a radical anti-trapper or a radical extremist that thinks animals should be totally left alone and in the wild.
This week on Trapping radio we cover one method that allows a coyote trapper to trap and catch more coyote per farm, ranch or even per mile. Coyote location is the big part of trapping coyotes with results. Coyote locations are not a static place in the wood or on a farm. A coyote location needs to be on a coyote travel way. This only makes sense Right? Sure it does. What a good coyote trapper has to learn is to make sure the …….coyote location is on a…..active coyote travel way. This is very different from slamming in traps on every road intersection you come across on your trap line.We also look at the fur market. The last North America Fur Auction was weak. No that is not right, it sucked for a lot of trappers and some fur prices were lower than most of us thought. Lets look at this from a trappers mindset that can still make money from his or her trapping.
This week on Trapping Across America we have the one and only Jeff Dunlap. A professional trapper from Michigan. He not only traps for a living, he has a lure line and several dvd’s on the market. Jeff is a good friend of mine, so I take some liberties cutting up with him. We talk about the fur market and fur prices. Freedom Brand FB2 dog proof traps and otter trapping with footholds. This year Jeff Dunlap started working in a lot of foot hold traps into his otter trapping and his otter size and catch size increased. We also learn more Dunlap words of wisdom.
This week on Trapping Radio we are covering a lot of topics. I am going through some of the trapping questions that have been emailed to me. We talk about trapping coyotes in the summer. This is very different than trapping during the fall with pup coyotes running all over the place. You can not force a coyote to do anything, and this goes double in the summer. You location will also change for coyote trapping, because the coyote are making a living in a different way. Making bait stations for coyotes, this is also different is warm weather. The we look at a ADC business plan and the difference between dogless and regular dog style traps.Hope to see everyone in PA. There will not be show next week. I hope to be getting several new trapper interviews for you. Stay tuned!
