For most of this year, Alicia's been following the slow motion collapse of her favorite celebreality couple, Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott. She covered their origin story in Season 6, back in June of 2020, and since then, things only seem to have gotten more breakup-y between the plucky actress and her increasingly estranged husband. Actor Jake Gyllenhaal is having some kind of week. Not only did his pop star ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift, re-release the album documenting their ill-fated romance, but she also made a short film about it all, and released a second song and video that sent Swifties to their keyboards to demand a decade old scarf. We talk about some of Jake's other relationships, including romances with Kirstin Dunst and Reese Witherspoon, and then marvel at the audacity of rehashing a decade-old breakup. Some relationships really just boil down their turbulence, and that's definitely the story with our couples this week. Alicia has the ups and downs that were the relationship of actress Robin Wright and actor Sean Penn, and Stacie gets kind of blue about the ill-fated romance of actress Cicely Tyson and jazz legend Miles Davis. We're finally feeling the autumn here at TDHQ, and Alicia is in the spirit of the changing of the seasons. But why do the seasons change? You may have heard a lot of bogus stories about planetary rotation and tilt as a kid, but we are here to tell it like it is: Long ago, the God of the Underworld fell for the Maiden of Spring, a pairing of which her mother, the Goddess of the Harvest, strongly disapproved. It's a Trashy Hookup/Trashy Breakup/Trashy Family Dynamics tale for the ages! Advertise with us! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
We wanted to do something a little different for today, the Spookiest Night of the Year! On a day where the veils between realities are their most gossamer, we decided to blur some lines! Today we're following up on Alicia's Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh story from Sunday. Stacie continues the thread with actress Helena Bonham Carter, whose post-Branagh relationship, with director Tim Burton, began every bit as controversially as the one with Ken had. Du Bois, who steered her into a deeply unsuitable marriage to poet Countee Cullen, a leading light of the Harlem Renaissance. Then, Alicia has a long-time listener request: The 90s-era heartbreaker of the marriage and divorce of actors Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh. Promo Victoria Emerson. For this spookiest of months, Alicia wanted to get into one of her very favorite subjects: The Scottish Play! Not only is there a trashy/tragic marital breakdown, but there are witches, and curses, and prophesies! It also sets us up pretty nicely for Trashy Divorces stories to come... It's been a while since we followed the dysfunction of a band's trashy breakup, but Alicia has a good one this week! For three brief, shining years, The Mamas & The Papas were chart topping leaders of the late '60s hippie sound. Born in professional jealousy, romantic rivalry, and personality conflict, the band's run ended almost as suddenly as it began. Promo Victoria Emerson. We're kicking off Season 12 with a theme! We've made no secret of our affection for Hulu's Only Murders In The Building, and this week, Stacie has the lone divorce of loner - and genius - Steve Martin. Then Alicia takes a look at the ex-wife of one of TV's Hardy Boys (it ties into Only Murders, if you haven't seen it), with the trashy divorces of Kirstie Alley, including Parker Stevenson, who played one. Welcome to Season 12! After the wild ride of our last season, we found that we still had a lot of questions about some of the people we profiled. To help answer them, or maybe just ask better questions, we turned to our friends Alexa and Nicole of the podcast Legally Judgy! Two pop culture-obsessed attorneys with a kickin' podcast, they helped us judge trashy stories like the Taylor Swift-Scooter Braun feud, the on-again, off-again divorce of Kanye and Kim, whether Britney will ever be free, and just what the heck is going on with Tom Girardi and Erika Jayne. We're closing Season 11 with two very different Hollywood stories. First, Alicia brings us the mystery of Geena Davis's three - or maybe four - marriages and divorces (who can say?). Then, Stacie emerges from decades of disturbing statements by Mel Gibson in dire need of a scrub brush for her brain. We're off next week! It's a week of high-fliers! Stacie has the over-the-top story of Pancho Barnes, a woman of adventure and aviation pioneer who built a desert watering hole that helped usher in the jet age. Then, Alicia has the story of the long, and in many ways successful, marriage of actress Valerie Bertinelli and rocker Eddie Van Halen. Alicia has the much-requested octaves of composer/producer David Foster, whose five marriages have yielded, gosh, a lot of delicious quotes about the man himself. Ironically while channel surfing, in the last couple of weeks, I stumbled upon Lethal Weapon and ended up watching the movie. I just finished listening to this episode and I feel dirty for having financially supported so much hatred in our world. Off to the showers

omg, the one host is always CRYING and it's so cheesy. She probably gets all choked up over Hallmark card commercials. Someone get her some mood stabilizers.

Before anyone flips out on me, let me just say that I've been a very loyal Stevie fan since 1980. Pretty much worshipped her. In my History of Rock Music, I chose her for inspiration. However; when I listened to Ken Caillat's audiobook, "Making Rumors" I was heartbroken to learn that she told him she was putting a spell on his beloved dog and it subsequently died because she was pissed at Ken at the time.My hope is that she just said it in a drug-fueled moment. My dog got me through the roughest time in my life, and I can truthfully say, if not for her love and loyalty, I would not be alive today. So, it's fair to say that I'm an animal lover, especially dogs. Her shine has darkened a bit for me since then. Love you both, love the show! Love and light 💛...Lisa

I know a few people have bitched and moaned about this podcast being "man hating" and unfairly blaming the men as the cause of the divorces. Well, that's not the case for Cary Grant. Who can say anything bad about him? Certainly not me!
