Today’s episode is a special one — because I’m sitting down with not just one of the most exciting names in triathlon right now, but also a good mate of mine: Youri Keulen. If you follow the sport, you’ve seen him charge from a being a wildcard to a win at the T100 in Singapore last year, push limits on some of the biggest stages, and race with heart and full commitment. This season he has demonstrated that he belongs on the biggest stage in triathlon. But behind the results is a guy who’s honest, driven, and deeply grounded in what he’s doing — even when the road gets rough. We’re talking pressure, passion, and what it really looks like to chase something relentlessly — all from a guy I’ve shared rides, laughs, and plenty of training with.
Today’s guest has lived through the highs of collegiate athletics, and the lows of losing that sense of identity — only to come back stronger, faster, and more grounded than ever. After playing university basketball on a scholarship, he found himself navigating life after sport, with all the physical and emotional challenges that come with it. But through struggle, he found purpose, and through a single spin class, he rediscovered the power of movement.Since then he lost over 22 kilograms, become a passionate cyclist, and dedicated himself to sharing his journey to inspire others, especially in underserved communities, to take control of their health and happiness. Now, from his new home in Spain, he’s using his bike to explore the world and help others do the same.
Some tell stories with words. Others with pedals and pain. But today’s guest does both—with a camera slung over his shoulder and a bike—either a gravel, road, or now even a triathlon bike—aimed at adventure, challenge, and the stories that unfold when comfort is left behind.Meet Tristan Cardew—filmmaker, photographer, and ultra-endurance cyclist. From the dusty trails of the Atlas Mountains to the vibrant streets of Girona, Tristan has built a reputation for capturing the raw, honest beauty of life on two wheels. His YouTube channel is packed with immersive storytelling, and his own adventures stretch across some of the world’s most unforgiving landscapes.
In this episode I am joined by someone who helped shape the endurance culture that’s made this city a mecca for pros: former professional triathlete, Aussie powerhouse, and Girona local, Nick Kastelein.""From being one of the first triathletes living in Girona, to chasing podiums across the world, Nick built a career grounded in consistency, toughness, and trust in the process. Now, in his post-racing chapter, he’s still living the grind — just in a different gear.""We talk legacy, identity, and what remains when the race clock stops ticking." "Because sometimes, the most meaningful part of the journey begins after the finish line."
Over the last 10 years Jonas has been a big presence in the short distance triathlon world. He is a familiar face, because whenever there’s a race, you can always find him at the front. From clinching the Under-23 Aquathlon World Championship title in 2016, to representing Germany at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics, he accomplished a lot of great things. In 2025, Jonas made a stunning debut in long-distance triathlon, finishing 3rd at Ironman South Africa, sharing the podium with Magus Ditlev and Marten van Riel . His transition from sprint and Olympic distances to the grueling Ironman format showcases that he’s capable to perform on all different kind of races.Join us today, as we explore Jonas's training philosophies, his experiences racing across continents, and his insights into the mental fortitude required to excel in one of the most demanding sports on the planet.
The guest of this episode knows what it means to fight her way back, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Irish former professional cyclist Imogen Cotter isn’t just a racer. She’s a writer of comebacks, a speaker of truth, and a fearless voice in a sport that doesn’t always make space for vulnerability. From Girona’s smooth tarmac to the roughest patches of recovery, Imogen’s journey is one of scars, but also strength and resilience. This episode isn’t just about cycling. It’s about what it takes to keep going. "We’ll talk recovery, rediscovery, and what it really means to rebuild not just your body, but your belief.
In this podcast, we shift gears and take a ride into the world of cycling media with the guy who always has a smile on his face, Bernat Font Mas."As a presenter for Global Cycling Network Español, Bernat brings the thrill of cycling to audiences worldwide, sharing insights, epic rides, and the passion that fuels the sport. But what’s his story? How did he go from being a pro bike rider himself, to becoming a key voice in cycling journalism?
In this episode I'm joined by one of the strongest gravel riders in the world Petr Vakoc. Petr has an incredible story. The rapid rise to the top of road cycling got stopped by a collision with a truck during a training ride in South Africa. After an incredible recovery, he came back towards racing at the highest level, including finishing another Tour de France. In 2021 he retired from professional cycling, and turned his focus to off-road endurance events. Nowadays, he is seen as one of the best gravel riders in the world. Join me and Petr in a long, but amazing conversation!
In this podcast I’m joined by Taylor Spivey, one of the world’s top triathletes. She has competed on the biggest stages, raced against the best, and knows exactly what it takes to push past her limits. From growing up on the beaches of Redondo Beach in Los Angeles, California, to training to become her best self in Girona, her story is one of dedication, resilience, and passion for the sport."In this episode, we’ll talk about her path to becoming a professional triathlete, the lessons she’s learned along the way, and what keeps her motivated day after day. So whether you’re a triathlete yourself, a fan of endurance sports, or just someone who loves a good story of perseverance—this one’s for you.
Diederik Deelen is a well-known figure in Girona’s endurance community, both on and off the bike. As a mechanic at The Service Course for over five years, he’s become a familiar face in one of the city’s finest bike shops, helping countless riders keep their machines in top shape. But beyond the workshop, he’s also making a name for himself on the global gravel racing scene. Competing at the highest level, one of his standout achievements was finishing 3rd at the grueling Traka 360km in 2023. Whether in the workshop or on the racecourse, Diederik is a true pillar of the Girona cycling scene.
John Wakefield joined for a conversation about being a coach at cycling teams like Redbull Bora Hansgrohe and before Team UAE, being the managing director for Science2sport in Girona (and South Africa), his view and takes about training in general, and of course about his favorite things from the endurance community in Girona.(Disclaimer; sorry if the sound isn’t amazing. We had to tweak the recording a bit, because we recorded the episode next to the busiest street in Girona)
In this first episode we sit down with Vincent Luis to talk about his incredible triathlon career so far, why he calls Girona home, his favorite things to do here, signing a contract with the T100 triathlon series, and the possibility of a long-distance debut in 2025.
