Today on the show Jayson is talking with Ajay Prakash and James Joun, co-founders  of Rinse, a laundry and dry-cleaning app started in 2013. Ajay was COO and CFO of Humble Brands, a consumer product startup. He also had experience at Bonobos, Berkshire Partners, the NBA and Bain & Company. James was a health care investor at Essex Woodlands, a product manager at Genentech, and a consultant with Monitor Group. The company, founded by Ajay Prakash and James Joun, is headquartered in San Francisco. Rinse is a portfolio company of Green D Ventures and Yard Ventures. Rinse started serving customers in 2013, but it was actually 30 years ago when the story really started. Joun’s parents have owned a dry cleaning storefront for more than three decades, and for years he’d been wondering how to increase sales in a particularly static industry. Ajay Prakash, befriended Joun at Dartmouth university. James Joun has degrees from Dartmouth and Harvard Business School. Joun was schooled in operations, such as running contraptions like the topper, which presses pant tops, and in the finer points of separating dirt and stains from all manner of fabrics. Joun now competes against the people who brought him into the business who also happen to be his parents. Links:  Follow True Underdog on IG: www.instagram.com/true_underdogReach out to Jayson directly at jayson@trueunderdog.comFollow Jayson on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jayson-waller-/Follow Jayson on Instagram: www.instagram.com/jaysonwallerbamCheck out our website to meet the team, view show notes and transcripts: www.trueunderdog.com Mentioned in the Episode: Rinse’s Website - https://www.rinse.com/Rinse’s Twitter - https://twitter.com/RinseJames’s LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamesjoun/Ajay’s LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/aprakash03/Ajay’s Twitter - https://twitter.com/aprakash03 Timestamps: 1:38 - James’s Childhood Experience3:31 - How James and Ajay Met6:13 - James and Ajay’s Relationship as Business Partners7:10 - Bootstrapping the Business From the Start9:25 - How Rinse Differentiates Itself From Others in the Market13:46 - 2 Minute Pitch for Rinse16:33 - Hardest Thing That James and Ajay Have Had to Overcome While Running Rinse21:11 - Growth Strategy for Rinse Moving Forward23:08 - ‘Covid Proofing’ Your Company in the Future26:22 - Cow vs Buffalo28:17 - What Ajay and James Are Most Proud Of
Today on the show Jayson talks about how you need to try and improve yourself by as small as 1% every single day, it’s like grass growing, you don’t notice it growing, but a week from now it needs to be cut! Today on the show Jayson is talking with Elizabeth Frazier, an activist, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, and survivor of sex trafficking. As early as 4 years old, she remembers being groomed by her parents. Her earliest memory is her mother pulling up to a motel and instructing her on which door to knock on and what acts she’d been engaged in. She lived in a wealthy neighborhood, so being led into this lifestyle by her parents wasn’t one to make ends meet but to exploit their own children. At about 11 to 12 years old, she became aware of what she was being forced into and didn’t feel safe or content in her home. She has forgiven her family for how she was treated but has not forgotten. She’s persistent in sharing her story in the hopes to shed light on trafficking and provide a voice to those who may still be in that situation. Founder of Hero Bands, an online shop that sells metal bands and bracelets to strengthen survivors of abuse Links:  Follow True Underdog on IG: www.instagram.com/true_underdogReach out to Jayson directly at jayson@trueunderdog.comFollow Jayson on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jayson-waller-/Follow Jayson on Instagram: www.instagram.com/jaysonwallerbamCheck out our website to meet the team, view show notes and transcripts: www.trueunderdog.com Mentioned in the Episode: Elizabeth’s Website: www.herobands.comElizabeth’s Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/hero_bands/Elizabeth’s Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/herobands/ Timestamps: 1:31 - Elizabeth’s Background3:25 - Elizabeth’s Forgiveness5:15 - Gaining Perspective From Becoming a Parent7:26 - What is Sex Trafficking?9:05 - Elizabeth’s Entrepreneurship Journey12:45 - Empowering Yourself and Others15:23 - Digital Platforms to Help Identify Sex Trafficking18:24 - Elizabeth’s Relationship with Her Parents22:44 - Starting a Business After Experiencing Trauma26:27 - It Takes Little Steps to Get Stronger Every Single Day

Today on the show Jayson is talking about all the haters in the world, and how you can use that as fuel to continue your success! Jayson says that we need to struggle in order to survive. If we’re not struggling, we’re not moving forward. There’s a certain comfort level that helps us thrive. There are 3 categories of people, the motivator/believer, the intimidated, and the haters. These will change throughout our lives, but the goal is always to belong to the first category. The haters of the world will try and tell you that you can’t do something, it’s up to you to convince them otherwise, keep holding yourself accountable for your own success, use anything you can to keep moving forward. Links:  Follow True Underdog on IG: www.instagram.com/true_underdogReach out to Jayson directly at jayson@trueunderdog.comFollow Jayson on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jayson-waller-/Follow Jayson on Instagram: www.instagram.com/jaysonwallerbamCheck out our website to meet the team, view show notes and transcripts: www.trueunderdog.com Timestamps: 1:05 - We Need to Struggle to Survive2:29 - Nobody Can Tell You No4:15 - Everybody Has a Gift6:54 - Why Not Be Happy For People?9:35 - They’re Wasting Their Energy Hating On You11:14 - Give 1% More Today, Than Yesterday
Today on the show Jayson is joined by co-host, John LeBlanc, talking about the first few chapters of Jayson’s book, and how to create your own map in life by keeping a few simple ideas in mind. Jayson talks about how you can’t always count on family to be there for you, he had to set boundaries with his parents when Jayson and his wife first had children. The path to success can be difficult when you allow fear to prevent you from getting there, you have to be able to move past your anxieties, you need to be in control, and you need to practice patience. You get to live on your own terms, as long as you put in the work, and when you understand you always have a choice, you then can go all in. So use your failure, and haters for motivation to be better, surround yourself with supportive people, appreciate any wins that you get, and aim to be fulfilled! Links:  Follow True Underdog on IG: www.instagram.com/true_underdogReach out to Jayson directly at jayson@trueunderdog.comFollow Jayson on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jayson-waller-/Follow Jayson on Instagram: www.instagram.com/jaysonwallerbamCheck out our website to meet the team, view show notes and transcripts: www.trueunderdog.com Timestamps: 2:29 - John’s Reaction to the Book7:04 - Taking Direction as a Skill set9:48 - Family Isn’t Always Close14:15 - New Parents Dealing with Family16:39 - Live On Your Own Terms - An Actionable Step to Create Your Own Map17:55 - Don’t Cheat Your Way to Success20:57 - Let Failure Motivate You22:51 - Use Haters As Fuel26:15 - Surround Yourself With a Reliable Team

Hey Jayson just an encouragement towards your parenting... I moved back in with my dad after exiting the Army at 24yo and he had recently become an alcoholic for the first time in my life. I had to move out before really stabilizing and I don't blame him for being done with being a role model but I think my point is that you will ALWAYS be a LIVING example for your children. You are literally a life that breathes life into your children and as long as you stay exuberant and never let your vibe go down you don't have to teach them anything. Being involved happily in your OWN life is the best thing you can do to make sure your kids WANT to be involved with your life in the future.
