Description

This is the true story of Dave Holmes and Mike Doughty, two 90s pop-culture obsessives, picked to live in a podcast, recap classic seasons of MTV's The Real World, and find out what happens when people stop being polite, and start getting very, very real about the music, the clothes, and the zeitgeist of the last decade of the 20th Century.

Mike and Dave alight onto Seattle, where 14,000 applicants are whittled down to 7 Real World housemates (and 6 Road Rules Winnebagopeople). Along the way: a shocking announcement direct from David Burns, a megadose of third-wave ska, a third book idea for Mike, and a definitive answer as to whether Jimmy Ray is Jimmy Ray. (He is.) This is the last of our episode ones, get ready to vote on which season we should watch and yell about in its entirety.
Dave and Mike fulfill their promise to rewatch episode one of The Real World: San Francisco, and do everything they can not to talk about it. Along the way: '90s funk-rock bands, the first "bling bling" sighting, Dream, mom jeans, flowy dresses, temp tracks, and college conservatives. Please don't make them keep watching this.
As they promised, Mike and Dave are sampling episodes one from Real World seasons 2, 3 and 4, and then leaving it up to you to tell them which season to keep watching. Season 2 begins with a reunion of season 1 where they speculate about season 2, so they had to watch episodes 1 and 2 to get into season 2, but they did it. It's called "dedication," heard of it? SO: join them as they address Heather's friend fixing to turn Norman out, Eric's lead singer disease, Andre's band girlfriend, and THEN the real start of season two with Dominic and Tami in a Winnebago, Jon attempting to boot-scoot, Irish drinking, bad attitudes, and worse houses. Season 2 of The Real World is available WITH THE ORIGINAL MUSIC on Paramount+ if you want to follow along.
Dave and Mike revisit the much-maligned London season of The Real World, and find it to be completely charming. Original music? A Notting Hill castle-y house? Sharon? Yes, please, we will take it. Along the way: Nando's Sauce, Jordy's "Dur Dur D'Etre Bébé," Roni Size, and high-school one-man shows. Join us, wontcha?

Well, The Real World Homecoming has gone to the great loft in the sky, but we are here to stay. Mike and Dave will talk about it, but first: a last night, a surprise visit, a few very pointed music cues, some final observations, and a real, real lot of Norman news. Buckle up.

Finally, it has happened to Mike and Dave: a deep dive on Norman and his status as a legit gay icon. Episode five of The Real World: Homecoming takes us to the West Village, to the Staten Island Ferry, and to an alternate universe where yellow peppers are munched on like apples. Andre gets real, Kevin gets vulnerable, Julie takes initiative, and Heather chops onions. Join us, won't you?
The Real World: Homecoming gives us a bit of a post-Becky breather as we focus on Norman's art, Julie's authority, Eric's temp and Heather's Juju. Along the way, delicious detours into ayahuasca, Carrot Top, ADHD, Melissa Howard, Ghost of Vroom, and so much more. Break out, buy a chocolate benefit bunny and join us.

In episode two of The Real World: Homecoming, we take ice baths, we visit an Instagram museum, we tell every city that is not New York what it can do with itself, and we prove we have learned nothing in the last 29 years. Pour yourself a nice, chilled cooch and join Mike and Dave as we try to make sense of it all.
Dave and Mike get real about episode one of The Real World: Homecoming. Where we've been since we recorded season one, what happened when we tried to record season two, and what we think of the return of seven strangers. Feelings will be revealed, tangents will be gone on, and Generation X will rise.
Mike and Dave explore vocal nodules, club-related illnesses, difficult Real World parents, and how much fencing is like Lazer Tag in episodes 4 and 5 of The Real World: London. Check our Twitter @truustowray for an excellent screenshot of an excellent sweater. This week's Truu Stowray is brought to you by Value Muesli.
We have had a vote. We have counted, recounted, audited, done press conferences, and encouraged stupids to break into Viacom headquarters. The MyPillow Guy was involved. But ultimately, a clear winner has emerged, and it is time Mike and Dave got to it. Make sure your passport is up to date.
Becky makes a bad situation worse, Kevin holds it together, Julie takes charge, and Norman says what we're all thinking. This was a rough episode of The Real World: Homecoming, please join Dave and Mike as they try to make sense of it all. Break out.

The castmates reflect; Dave and Mike reflect in turn. The season-ender was shot on May 18, 1992, and clearly nobody on the cast thought anyone would watch it. Final shot: the aquarium. The premiere aired on May 21, and a television epoch began. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Mike and Dave perform a dramatic reading of Eric's speech, in which he says he wants people to know his nutritional supplements, but not his soul. Heather takes a fake cop-car ride. We learn that inappropriate relations with Becky do not preclude directing a Reigndance video. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
