Two Towns Over looks at the dark side of history, using dark humor and natural curiosity. We also discuss fun stuff, as well. But usually, it's just dark.

It's been called the most haunted house in America. The Sallie House in Atchison, Iowa. Just in time for spooky season, we look at the history of the house, starting with the tragic death of a little girl during an emergency appendectomy. We'll also look at the supposed evidence of the hauntings purported to have been caught on camera.Audio Note: As we record two episodes at a time, the same audio quality from last week is evident again this week. Please be patient as we work through these issues.
This week, we ruin your childhood with the Pixar Theory. A well known theory that proports to tie all the Pixar movies together in one cohesive story. At least up till 2013. We also look at the Reginald Vel Johnson Cinematic Universe, which claims that the actor Reginald Vel Johnson has played the same character in the movies Ghostbusters and Die Hard, and the sitcom Family Matters. But you can't blame us for ruining your childhood on that one, Urkel did that.Due to mic issues, we had to use different mics in a different location. So audio quality is off a little, but it's still listenable.
We finish our journey down the Stephen King/John Lennon rabbit hole with a look at some of the writings of the man who created the conspiracy, Steven Lightfoot. But it quickly became obvious that what we were dealing with was a man who was mourning the loss of someone he cared about and became untethered. So what starts as a humorous look at conspiratorial ramblings turns into an earnest discussion on the dangers of parasocial relationships.
We return to the second part of Tommy's story, which takes us to that cold night outside the Dakota Apartment building in New York City. Stephen King is set to follow through on his promise, but a change of plans at the last minute forces another ability to emerge, and a new assassin comes into play.
We're going to another dimension. A world beyond sight and sound. In this reality, Stephen King actually did kill John Lennon. Friend of the show Tommy researched the story and gave us the record of how it happened. This episode is a work of fiction. We in no way think that this is actually what happened.
Audio Note!! For some reason, Josh has a faint echo. Unfortunately, we record two episodes at a time, which means next week's episode will have it. It's not bad, but it's there. This week, we embark on a journey into the strange conspiracy theory of one man: Stephen Lightfoot. His theory is that the narrative that Mark David Chapman was the gunman who assassinated John Lennon is pure propaganda, and that the true killer was none other than the king of horror: Stephen King. This week, we look at the conspiracy and the actual murder of Lennon
This week, Cyndi comes on board to help Rubin and Don tell the tale of the Flying Dutchman. A ghost ship known far and wide across the seven seas as an omen of dangers and death. They also look at two stories of maritime disaster: First, they look at the Edmund Fitzgerald, made famous by Canadian troubadour Gordon Lightfoot. Then they look at the most famous ghost ship in history: The Mary Celeste, a ship found adrift in the Atlantic with no one aboard and no explanation as to their whereabouts. It's a pirate's life this week.
This week, Rubin and Don are joined by Cyndi as Josh takes a sabbatical for his birthday. She joins them in a discussion over one of the most enduring legends in history: Atlantis. Where is it? What is it? How did it sink? They also discuss some of the more "out there" beliefs involving the lost civilization.
This week, Josh takes the writing reins with a few stories that are too strange to be true, but somehow are. From Napoleon getting the killer rabbit treatment a la Monty Python to Shirley Temple actually being a thirty-three-year-old woman in her heyday, Josh brings us some amusing tales. He even included one that is not true, and it's up to you to decide which it is.
This week, we return to our roots and take it old school. The Appalachian region of America is overflowing with cryptids and creepy legends, and this week, we're looking at a few of them. From the Wampus Cat to the Grafton Monster, we discuss the cryptids that keep you up at night and make leveling up in Fallout 76 fun.
This week, we discuss the initial search and rescue operation that quickly became a recovery mission. We also look at the findings of the investigation into what happened and talk about how, much like Lovecraft said: Nature couldn't care less about you
This week, we look at the dream of one man; Stockton Rush. A man so blinded by hubris that he believed that he could voyage to the wreck of the Titanic using a prototype submarine made out of carbon fiber, and his determination to do it despite everyone telling him it was a death trap.
Episode 152: The L.A. Riots

Episode 152: The L.A. Riots

It's a week later, and Rubin is still not over last week's episode. This week, we look at the results of the Rodney King Verdict. For six day in 1992, L.A. was in flames. Racial tensions overflowed into the street, and no one was safe.

Episode 151: Rodney King

2025-07-2001:18:16

Not going to lie, this week is heavy. Which is understandable given the makeup of our show. This week, we discuss the brutal attack on Rodney King by the LAPD. An attack that may have only been known about due to a civilian who happened to have his video camera available. We talk about the attack and the subsequent trial that followed and whose verdict would lead to the violent riots in Los Angeles in 1992.Discord: https://discord.gg/Ndn8EdgeKQPatreon.com/twotownsoverFacebook.com/ttopodBlue sky: twotownsover.bsky.social
What would happen if the entire population of the planet pointed a laser pointer at the moon at the same time? What if an earthquake measuring 15 on the Richter Scale occurred? This week, we dive into a new book of non-BS, "What If?" by Randall Munroe. Josh takes us on a scientific journey that looks at the scientific theories behind insane hypothetical questions
This week, we look at the parapsychology experiment that tried to create a person out of thin air: The Phillip Experiment. In the 1970s, a group of people created a fictional character as detailed as they could. Then, using your typical ghost hunting tactics (seances, Ouija boards, etc.,) tried to bring him to life. We then look at the legend of the Tulpa, or thought being. A creature brought to life simply by belief.
Salem Witch Trials Supercut

Salem Witch Trials Supercut

This week, in what is hopefully the last of the mandatory supercut releases, we go back the dark days of the Satanic Panic. In this episode we look at the beginning of the Panic in America: The Salem Witch Trials.
We return to the seedy streets of Chicago to go deeper into depravity with America's First Serial Killer. This week, we look at his capture and the conspiracy theory that Holmes may have actually been another famous serial killer in operation at that time: Jack the Ripper.Discord: https://discord.gg/Ndn8EdgeKQPatreon.com/twotownsoverFacebook.com/ttopodBlue sky: twotownsover.bsky.social
Last week, we discussed the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. This week, we look at the darker side of that year as we begin the story of H.H. Holmes. Deemed America's first serial killer, Holmes built an elaborate "Murder Castle" in which many visitors to the fair are presumed to have met their demise. This week, we look at the early life of Holmes and the construction of the Castle. We also discuss Holmes' MANY wives.Discord: https://discord.gg/Ndn8EdgeKQPatreon.com/twotownsoverFacebook.com/ttopodBlue sky: twotownsover.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/Ndn8EdgeKQPatreon.com/twotownsoverFacebook.com/ttopodBlue sky: twotownsover.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/Ndn8EdgeKQPatreon.com/twotownsoverFacebook.com/ttopodBlue sky: twotownsover.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/Ndn8EdgeKQPatreon.com/twotownsoverFacebook.com/ttopodBlue sky: twotownsover.bsky.social
This week, we begin our dive into the twisted world of H.H. Holmes by examining the background setting of his crimes, the 1893 World's Fair. Also known as the Columbian Exposition, the fair ran from May of 1893 to October and featured one of the most expansive examples of products and inventions we know today. From the Ferris Wheel to Cracker Jacks to the moving sidewalk, the expo was a living testament to the will of man.
