■ THE STORY Antelope smelled the smoke first. Run! (Running sound): Te-te-Te-te-Te-te-Te-te Te-te-Te-te-Te-te-Te-te Then lion smelled the smoke. Run! Te-te-Te-te-Te-te-Te-te Te-te-Te-te-Te-te-Te-te Then cheetah and leopard and hyena, too. Run! Te-te-Te-te-Te-te-Te-te Te-te-Te-te-Te-te-Te-te And Giraffe, Zebra, and Wildebeest. Run! Te-te-Te-te-Te-te-Te-te Te-te-Te-te-Te-te-Te-te Baboon, Ape, and Orangutan. Run! Te-te-Te-te-Te-te-Te-te Te-te-Te-te-Te-te-Te-te And the birds. Fly! Flap-fl ap-fl ap – Flap-fl ap-fl ap Flap-fl ap-fl ap – Flap-fl ap-fl ap And they all gathered at the far side of the field at the edge of the jungle. “Oh no!” they moaned. “Oh no!” They watched the flames burning up the tall grass. “Oh no!” they moaned. “Oh no!” Then, just above their heads they heard a little whrrr. They looked up. It was hummingbird. She was flying toward the fire! “What are you doing?” they cried. “What are you doing?” The animals watched as Hummingbird flew above the flames and tipped its head spilling a little water onto the flames from its tiny beak. Hummingbird flew back toward the animals, over their heads and quickly down into a little spring and filled its beak again. They watched. “What are you doing?” they cried. “What are you doing?” She flew back across the burning field and once again emptied her little beak full of water onto the flames. She returned and dipped her beak in the pool again and flew back toward the field. “What are you doing?” they cried. “What are you doing?” Again and again, Hummingbird flew with her little beak full and dropped the water on the flames and the animals asked, “What are you doing?” They cried, “What are you doing?” She stopped for a moment. “What are you doing?” They cried, “What are you doing?” She looked at the others, “I am doing what I can,” she said, “doing what I can.” And then she sang: I’m doing what I can That’s all that I can do To make this world a better place For me and you. City Jane (2022) by Alkistis Voulgari  Hi, this is City Jane Don't put me in a frame I go insane I've spent years walking on this concrete land Playing music in my mind in a fantasy band You see, some prophets say "Once you feel real love, you don't have to pray anymore" So, what the f* is going on? I've spent my whole life against my nature? C' mon! I'm wild, I'm alive, I'm still burning inside I'm not your concrete girl I'm not your photo to sell I want to dream I want to scream I want the self and the (e)steem City bells city mud City lights city trust I am here and I'm no more sad This game is mine Prime day prime time I'll live and I'll give all of my soul in the gig I'll dance I'll crash I'll vomit all your trash Jungle is the City City is the Jungle Thanks for knowing how to handle! Now I'm free from you You cannot cut me in two My Tarzan waits out of your land To dance, to play, to make love on the sand  © Alkistis Voulgari 2022

Conceptual Poetry by Alkistis Voulgari©/ Lyrics : I was walking in the center of the city yesterday Outside of the Central Bank, with the guards and the gentlemen in fine costumes there was a man searching in the garbage He was barefoot He was speaking to himself He was young I passed on by like everybody did… I passed on by with my head down The two aspects of this world acting together on a single little road The ones who have… The bodyguards of the ones who have… and the ones who… - see, the pen stopped writing Who really has and who doesn’t?... The men in costumes And the invisible men who have the things that the men in costumes guard so well – yes, they have money But do they have anything else? The Barefoot Man who seeks in the garbage speaking to himself has definitely a good story to tell If God was a director would choose to make a film of the life of the barefoot Man The barefoot Man’s life would sell more tickets at the cinema! Who has and who doesn’t?... Outside the Central Bank In the center of the city The men in costumes laugh ironically While a barefoot, desperate man is searching in the garbage I pass on by like everybody else… With my head down. One minute conceptual poetry. The word nostalgia is learned formation of a Greek compound, consisting of νόστος (nóstos), meaning "homecoming", a Homeric word, and ἄλγος (álgos), meaning "pain"or "ache", and was coined by a 17th-century medical student to describe the anxieties  displayed by Swiss mercenaries fighting away from home. Described as a medical condition—a form of melancholy—in the Early Modern period, it became an important trope in Romanticism. Freedom from the Known

Freedom from the Known

Short excerpt from J. Krishnamurti's book. YouTube : https://youtu.be/aaByeWKhYpw "Freedom is a state of mind - not freedom from something but a sense of freedom, a freedom to doubt and question everything and therefore so intense, active and vigorous that it throws away every form of dependence, slavery, conformity and acceptance. Such freedom implies being completely alone. But can the mind brought up in a culture so dependent on environment and its own tendencies ever find that freedom which is complete solitude and in which there is no leadership, no tradition and no authority? This solitude is an inward state of mind which is not dependent on any stimulus or any knowledge and is not the result of any experience or conclusion. Most of us, inwardly, are never alone. There is a difference between isolation, cutting oneself off, and aloneness, solitude. We all know what it is to be isolated - building a wall around oneself in order never to be hurt, never to be vulnerable, or cultivating detachment which is another form of agony, or living in some dreamy ivory tower of ideology. Aloneness is something quite different. You are never alone because you are full of all the memories, all the conditioning, all the mutterings of yesterday; your mind is never clear of all the rubbish it has accumulated. To be alone you must die to the past. When you are alone, totally alone, not belonging to any family, any nation, any culture, any particular continent, there is that sense of being an outsider. The man who is completely alone in this way is innocent and it is this innocency that frees the mind from sorrow. We carry about with us the burden of what thousands of people have said and the memories of all our misfortunes. To abandon all that totally is to be alone, and the mind that is alone is not only innocent but young - not in time or age, but young, innocent, alive at whatever age - and only such a mind can see that which is truth and that which is not measurable by words. In this solitude you will begin to understand the necessity of living with yourself as you are, not as you think you should be or as you have been. See if you can look at yourself without any tremor, any false modesty, any fear, any justification or condemnation - just live with yourself as you actually are. Freedom can only come about naturally, not through wishing, wanting, longing. Nor will you find it by creating an image of what you think it is. To come upon it the mind has to learn to look at life, which is a vast movement, without the bondage of time, for freedom lies beyond the field of consciousness." J. Krishnamurti " Freedom from the Known "
