The college football season wrapped up with Georgia taking home its second consecutive national title after a defeat of TCU in the playoff championship game.  Georgia’s sheer domination of the Horned Frogs begs an obvious question: Have the Bulldogs passed Alabama as the preeminent program in the sports? With a young team this season, they could be poised for a third title in a row as Kirby Smart has transformed Georgia from sleeping giant to super power. The other big news with the offseason ahead is the departure of Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren. Where does the league go from here and how does the possibility of potential expansion?   Dan Wolken and Paul Myerberg tackle these questions and look ahead to the 2023 season in this week's version of the College Football Fix.
It took nine seasons for the College Football Playoff to produce two amazing semifinals on the same day. The year ended with underdog TCU shocking Michigan in a high-scoring, back-and-forth Fiesta Bowl. The drama didn't end there. Defending champion Georgia held off Ohio State in the Peach Bowl with a fourth-quarter rally and then a last-second field goal miss by the Buckeyes. Dan Wolken and Paul Myerberg recap all the drama from the semifinals and look ahead to the unlikely championship game matchup in this week's version of the College Football Fix.
The final day of 2022 will see Michigan and TCU meet in the Fiesta Bowl ahead of Georgia and Ohio State clashing in the Peach Bowl. Dan Wolken and Paul Myerberg break down the semifinal matchups and more in this week's version of the College Football Fix.

Jimmy G will be sidelined into the postseason – if the Niners make it that far. Odell Beckham Jr. has been on a world tour lately. Is the Super Bowl-winning wide receiver close to signing with a new team? If so, is that the best move for OBJ and any NFL team? Beckham's former team, the Los Angeles Rams, signed a new quarterback off waivers, adding depth to its depleted team with Baker Mayfield. The College Football Playoff race is clearing up heading into the final weekend of the regular season. Are three spots already locked up with unbeatens Georgia, Michigan and TCU able to ensure a loss? If so, does that mean Alabama is officially out and the race is only between Southern California and Ohio State? Speaking of the Buckeyes, is there serious concern about the trend of the program under Ryan Day with two consecutive losses? The NFL playoff pretenders and contenders are starting to separate themselves. After a stunning overtime victory against the Buffalo Bills in Week 10, the Minnesota Vikings are flexing their muscles thanks to the receiving prowess of Justin Jefferson. But how long does the "Skol" last? Meanwhile, the Bills face a harsher reality that their performances as a whole ride heavily on the back of quarterback Josh Allen.  Elsewhere, the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins are proving to be complete and competitive teams in the league. And while Jeff Saturday was able to rally the Indianapolis Colts to a victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in his first game as head coach, the result likely says more about the Raiders. If results continue, will offseason mega-signing Davante Adams stick around? And could Derek Carr become the future Colts quarterback? The Indianapolis Colts made the splash of the week when they fired head coach Frank Reich and hired Jeff Saturday as interim. Does Irsay get a pass because of his track record for hiring minority coaches? Or does this decision put gasoline on the fire that the NFL is a good old boys club? IndyStar columnist Gregg Doyel didn’t hold back when he joined Safid Deen and Tyler Dragon to discuss the shocking news and the Colts’ other ongoing problems, including the quarterback situation. Odell Beckham Jr. is in the news as speculation swirls around where he’ll land. Will it be the Dallas Cowboys? Or a return to the Los Angeles Rams? Or joining Von Miller at the Buffalo Bills? Or somewhere else? Tyler has a piece of news he saved just for the podcast. Welcome to It's a Football Podcast! with USA TODAY Sports+ Insiders Safid Deen and Tyler Dragon. The second College Football Playoff rankings of the season are out and there's an interesting situation developing with No. 7 LSU. The Tigers have two losses overall, but they control their destiny to reach the SEC championship game. A win there against No. 1 Georgia could make for a strong case to be part of the semifinals. Should that scenario unfold, it would come at the expense of Tennessee, which already has a dominating win at LSU this season. Alabama and Clemson fell on the same day and both dropped out of the top six. It's the first time that's happened in the nine years of the rankings. Is there reason to worry about the future of the Crimson Tide and how they move forward as Nick Saban gets closer to the end of his tenure? And what about the Tigers? Does their insular approach create concern whether Dabo Swinney will win another national title? The Pac-12 is firmly in the playoff mix and Oregon will have a strong case should the Ducks finish with just one loss. Also lurking is Southern California. Even though the Trojans don't have a strong resume or defense, they do have Caleb Williams, who might be the best quarterback in college football. Dan Wolken and Paul Myerberg address all these storylines and look ahead to the biggest matchups in Week 6 during the latest version of College Football Fix, the USA TODAY Sports weekly podcast that releases every Tuesday during the season.
This week the insiders dove into the NBA trade deadline ... Wait, that's not it. This is a football podcast, right? With 10 deals done on deadline day in the NFL, it felt more like the professional basketball counterpart known for its lucrative trades. Bradley Chubb, Jeff Wilson and Calvin Ridley were all moved within two hours of the NFL's cutoff Tuesday. They were among 12 players dealt on the final day of the trade window. USA TODAY Sports reporter Chris Bumbaca joined Safid Deen and Tyler Dragon to discuss the winners and losers of the NFL trade deadline. Elsewhere, the Washington Commanders made headlines Wednesday, not for their player deals, but because owners Daniel and Tanya Snyder hired a bank to "consider potential transactions" involving the team. Could this mean a long-awaited sale of the team? Or just a reshuffling of the front office?  Midway through the season, t The insiders tackle these topics and take a moment to reflect on which teams made the grade through the first nine weeks of the season – and which have fallen flat.  Welcome to "It's a Football Podcast!" with USA TODAY Sports+ insiders Safid Deen and Tyler Dragon. Georgia led the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, but the College Football Playoff committee had other thoughts with its first ranking of the season.  Tennessee was the No. 1 choice followed by Ohio State. When the league's top decision-makers convened for the annual NFL league meetings, not all was peaceful. Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay publicly said there is “merit” to remove Daniel Snyder as the owner of the Washington Commanders. His comments come after an investigation and an inquiry by the House Oversight Committee over allegations of a toxic workplace at the Commanders organization.  “It’s a difficult situation. I believe that there’s merit to remove him as owner of the (Commanders)," Irsay said. "I think it’s something that we have to review. We have to look at all the evidence and we have to be thorough in going forward. But I think it’s something that has to be given serious consideration.” Less serious, but also controversial, USA TODAY reporter Safid Deen asked the hard-hitting question to Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, "Is the Griddy celebration overdone?" The NFL insiders also discussed the latest coaching grades, including a Green Bay Packers flop and a New England Patriots bump. And after running back Christian McCaffrey said the trade talks surrounding him are "out of (his) control" last week, the guys talked about possible landing spots for the record-breaking Carolina Panther. Tennessee toppled Alabama in the final minute of their matchup over the weekend. Coach Nick Saban's play-calling at the end of the game sealed Alabama's fate. Has the Tuscaloosa legend lost his touch? Does beating the Crimson Tide mean what it used to? And will we see Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship?  Midway through the season, it's time to see which championship contenders are the real deal in a season without a clear No. 1.  Dan Wolken and Paul Myerberg address these storylines during the latest version of College Football Fix, the USA TODAY Sports weekly podcast that releases every Tuesday during the season.
Week 5 of the 2022 NFL regular season was a busy one.  Davante Adams was charged with misdemeanor assault for pushing a photographer after the Las Vegas Raiders' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Not one, but two roughing the passer calls had fans in fits. And the Carolina Panthers fired head coach Matt Rhule. This week, the NFL insiders discuss whether some rules need to be reexamined, what makes the NFC East so surprisingly successful and who will dominate Week 6. Welcome to It's a Football Podcast! with USA TODAY Sports+ Insiders Safid Deen and Tyler Dragon. Each week the insiders take you to the field and behind the scenes covering every X and O because they know football. But, what's it called?
The feeling of fall is in the air and the college football season has almost reached ts midpoint.  Matt Rhule was first coaching casualty in the NFL after being fired by the Carolina Panthers. He immediately becomes one of the top candidates among the major programs with vacancies due to his success at Baylor and Temple.  The top three of the USA TODAY AFCA Coaches Poll remained the same with Alabama leading Georgia and Oho State, but the Buckeyes might be the best team of the trio even though they are ranked below the SEC schools. Looking ahead to Week 7, there's a multitude of matchups involving ranked teams, including No. 1 Alabama visiting No. 8 Tennessee and No. 4 Michigan hosting No. 10 Penn State. Dan Wolken and Paul Myerberg address all these storylines during the latest version of College Football Fix, the USA TODAY Sports weekly podcast that releases every Tuesday during the season.
