The love of God is a profound concept that encompasses His unconditional care, that encompasses two things that when seen or placed close together show a contrasting effect: mercy, and grace on one hand and discipline towards us his children on the other. And Yes, we are His children. How might we improve our relationship with God? If our minds are occupied with the problems of the day. It’s like we lose our focus on God. There is a massive disconnect between what the people have been doing for God and what God wants. Perhaps we even hate how our sin has separated us from God, and we want that relationship mended. Everything is fine until we seek to resolve those issues ourselves; by ourselves. This text teaches that human opinions are subject to change, but God's truth remains constant. We tend to form opinions on all matters in life, as Christians in today’s world, we might consider that even though Jeremiah got his message from God, he was unpopular, because his message showed the people how bad they were. As for us? Well, we don’t want to lose friends or family, so it’s more comfortable to shrug our shoulders and just go along. But that is not what God wants, he didn’t want that from Jeremiah and He doesn’t want that from us. Practical matters refer to actions and decisions that are directly related to everyday life and can be applied in real-world situations. In Luke 12, Jesus, the Son of God, was teaching his disciples, the crowds gathered to hear him, they were eager to listen. Keep in mind, that although it was not mentioned, Jesus was not teaching men only, he was teaching women and children too. May your life be more like Christ’s so that when he comes, you will be ready to greet him joyfully. Hosea was the last great prophet that God sent to the northern Kingdom of Israel before they were destroyed and exiled by the Assyrians. He presents a powerful message of God’s love for his people, even while they were sinning against Him. Christian faith provides a growth track into knowledge of the truth; but along the way, how do we guard against being deceived by lies masquerading as “well crafted arguments"? Consider, if your growth track is too narrow, you might become thick-headed and insular. No one can teach you a thing, and love, love disappears from your life. But if your track is too wide and every idea is an exciting new possibility, you will waste a lot of time just getting back on track and you run the risk of running into some dangerous detours... We cannot expect a rose to bloom if we planted a sunflower We need to distinguish between freedom to sin and freedom to serve. We have the freedom of choice, but we do not have the liberty to alter or change the repercussions of that decision. You harvest what you plant. Always. Today’s Scripture richly distinguishes between our will and God’s will. And some questions came up: Are we planning on deciding to obey God using our own will or are we planning to decide with the help of God’s divine Will? Even way back when the message was in our hearts. During Moses’ time most things are learned by heart. Information about watering holes, after all, in Israel, watering holes were significant because that information served as a vital resource in arid landscapes, they were important for survival, as well containing spiritual symbolism then there were agricultural practices, weaving cloth, making food. Even learning the Torah, the first five books of the Bible. Everything was learned by heart by young children at the feet of their parents, grandparents and leaders. Elijah laid his cloak over Elisha’s shoulders indicating Elisha’s call to become Elijah’s successor. Elisha, a farmer by trade, is taken by surprise by this unexpected encounter with the renowned prophet Elijah. Despite the shock, Elisha recognizes the significance of Elijah’s actions and understands that he is being called to a higher purpose. In a moment of decision, Elisha made one of his biggest life choices, he knew the need to leave his old life behind. Elisha slaughters his oxen, using the equipment for fuel to cook the meat, and bids farewell to his former way of life. He destroys his former livelihood. There’s no way back. He’s made his choice. "Because in the beginning we were all one". That's why the apostle Paul reminds us "there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus." That's why it is absurd to divide people into acceptable and unacceptable, "our kind" and "not our kind." The beginning of wisdom is listening. Not listening seems like so small a thing, almost benign, and easily justified as a temporary postponement of obedience. Yet, not listening is perhaps the first whiff of lovelessness. Listening is a posture of attentiveness, which acknowledges the presence of another. Listening is an exercise in interdependence, which nurtures a teachable spirit. Not listening is, well, not that... God the Father was there when the people in Babel spoke only one language, and didn't want to leave, He introduced many languages and they dispersed. The Holy Spirit was there at Pentecost and enabled the speaking of many languages, letting everyone hear God's message. The Son, Jesus Christ, is there every time we break bread and drink remembering Him. He brings us all together. Strong winds can be a powerful reminder of the power of nature, but then in Mark 4:39 this happened: “39 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. This moment when Jesus calmed a storm, he demonstrated His divine authority over nature. Also over the winds that toss and turn our lives. Peter was invited to stay in the house of Cornelius in Joppa, it is here where Peter had a divine experience. I encourage you to read Acts chapter 11 what a wonderful passage of scripture is Chapter 11. It is a passage that you and I should be mighty thankful for, after all, if not for this passage, we who are from non-Jewish backgrounds would not be in the church today. Everyone who was close to Jesus or the disciples knew this term. It was used by early Christians, to signify their commitment to following Jesus. It's "The Way". The Way emphasized a lifestyle of love, compassion, and obedience to Jesus, rather than merely adhering to a set of beliefs. It was a journey that involved living out the teachings of Jesus and embodying His example in daily life. Today we’ll look at fishing. I’m thinking about how Jesus saw how the disciples were fishing, thinking about it I realize that fishing must have been more then a job, there must have been a love for what they were doing. Jesus said he’ll make some fishermen fishers of men. Peter was a fisherman who had denied Jesus. But Jesus had other plans for Peter. Three times Peter denied Jesus, but after His resurrection Jesus asked Peter three times: Do you love me? This sequence leads me to ask: Do you love Jesus? In Luke:23:42-43 When the thief asks a favor of Jesus, Jesus kind of tells us where he's going to be between death and resurrection. Doesn't He? 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” 43 And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.” If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com We feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need. With that Jesus was condemned and crucified, and he died on that cross, everything went dark; all were scared; the world trembled; and maybe for short time all believed he was the King. Maybe they thought He was who He said he was. Then the next day there was a quiet day, a day to meditate, a Sabbath, a day to reflect. But, then something incredible happened, something indescribable… If you would like us to pray for you, please send your prayer request to: pastor@ustepin.com If you would like to see this or previous messages, either as video or audio versions, please visit us at: https://www.ustepin.com We feel God is blessing us as we create these weekly Sunday sermons and that is all the recompense we need.
