#69- Live Do you believe in talent?

How many times have you heard, or even said yourself, that you need talent to be successful in language learning? You’ve probably met children and adults who seem to have it all figured out. They simply show up to class and start speaking in a new language without any difficulty. Will you be quick to judge them as gifted, or do you think there’s more to it than just talent?

#live-64 Yummiest Food Ever!

Listen to people talk about it. Traditional dishes from our countries tie us to warm feelings and good memories. We all have been there when the pressure is on and then we reach for some comfort food. But how one dish is perceived in one culture is totally different from another, and it’s even different from person to person. What is the most delicious food you’ve ever tried and where did it come from?

#live-61 An interesting cultural taboo

In Western cultures asking a woman's age is often discouraged, while in Japan asking your age is a normal question in day-to-day conversations. In Switzerland being punctual is a sign of respect while in India being on time for a dinner party is considered rude! People around the world interpret actions in a social interaction differently.

#live-55 Online shopping = More shopaholics

Shopping happens to be most of our weakness. While some find it a relieving session, others think it is a necessity for them. Nowadays, the convenience and ease of online shopping have obviously affected our shopping habits and spending patterns. The question is, to what extent we can keep on investing in things that we probably don’t need.

#live-54 Are you a serial nagger?

The most common relationship complaint is ‘nagging”! Parent and child, boss and employee, wife and husband… we all have this dumb belief that if what we're doing isn't working, the solution is to do more of it! The nagging pattern. This cycle repeats itself, with each person repeatedly reacting to the other's behavior in the same way. Is there a way to stop it and do something different?

#live-52 Punishment vs discipline

Parenting style and the way we have been brought up can impact everything, from how we feel about ourselves to what we choose to eat. Some parents believe that it is impossible to discipline a child without punishment, and to change the child’s behavior, punishment is inevitable. What do you think?

#live-49 Why do we lie?

This conversation was a blast! Listen to people talk about lie-telling. We’ve all done it! Either for our personal gain, or to make others happy! Kim Serota, a marketing professor at Oakland University, suggests that “Prolific liars are highly motivated to lie, if for no other reason than because they believe lying enables them to succeed in achieving a particular goal. They understand what they’re doing; they do it willfully and purposefully as a means to an end.” What do you think? Do we usually lie mindfully?
