Gabor Maté says that we choose belonging 100% of the time, over authenticity. Our self-critic keeps us ‘in check’ and ‘likeable’. The part of us that feels criticised, ‘different’, or struggles to connect, is the part that turns to something outside ourselves, in order to cope. So, here, I talk about the road to becoming more authentic and empowered, as a route to recovery of confidence, as well as from compulsion or codependency. If you want  help  with getting your confidence back, and to recover from comfort eating, join my next group: Next Comfort Eating Recovery 6-week programme - Only a couple of spaces left!Join my mailing list hereGet Control Back! One reason for overeating at Christmas is that we need to let go. Understanding that you might be comfort eating to let go, is, as I often say, treating the cause rather than the symptom of overeating. Productivity can be another addiction, that typically goes hand in hand with comfort eating. So, today, I talk about Christmas overeating and how to recognise and wind down from being over productive. Because so many of us feel we need to push through, when really we need to stop.Want to go further?Join my mailing list hereHow To Stop Comfort Eating 6 Week Workshop Calling In 'The One' 8 Week Programme, for finding love For more support:Contact: shelley_treacher@hotmail.comInfo: www.bristolcounselling.co.ukBlog:  Free quick tips and quiz: Are you a comfort eater?Click here for 'Comfort Eating Recovery' Facebook groupClick here for 'Love and Relationship Recovery' Facebook groupHere's another podcast you might like: Covid-19 Christmas - Loneliness, Conflict and Comfort EatingIf you like this podcast, please share it or leave a review on Apple Podcasts!Support the show (https://pod.fan/underground-confidence-comfort-eating-reco)

Since lockdown began, the jokes about overeating have been coming thick and fast on social media. Having overcome chronic comfort eating myself, I help people to stop. But I must admit, even I’ve struggled more than usual during the pandemic. It may be that you’ve tried every diet or technique on the planet and still can’t stop yourself from eating. You may have become so frustrated and sick of yourself that you’re desperate for another solution. That solution is to treat the cause of overeating, rather than the symptom. You may realise that it’s emotional discomfort that causes your comfort eating. Or, you might be baffled by how your overeating habits or binge-eating could be caused by emotion. Maybe you’re thinking:“it’s just a habit” or, ‘’I Just like food!”But, you want to change things. So, it’s time to go a little deeper. The first step towards treating yourself better is to identify whether it is emotion causing you to eat. So, here are some ways to find out.Want to go further?Join my mailing list hereHow To Stop Comfort Eating 6 Week Workshop Calling In 'The One' 8 Week Programme, for finding love For more support:Contact: shelley_treacher@hotmail.comInfo: www.bristolcounselling.co.ukBlog:  Free quick tips and quiz: Are you a comfort eater?Click here for 'Comfort Eating Recovery' Facebook groupClick here for 'Love and Relationship Recovery' Facebook groupHere's another podcast you might like: Why You Comfort Eat - Overeating ExplainedIf you like this podcast, please share it or leave a review on Apple Podcasts!Support the show (https://pod.fan/underground-confidence-comfort-eating-reco)
