Other large evacuations in that era, such as Show Low in 2002, were also wildfire-driven.
To include Iconic local Landmarks like The General Store. Pop'tn: The permanent population was small (approx. 100), but including seasonal residents and visitors, the number of people displaced was in the hundreds. While the "explanation" was the fire, the speed & surreal nature of the event—where the town looked like "Salvador Dali designed it" as such intense heat melted street signs & car wheels—led to it being remembered as a sudden, traumatic displacement. 8 sites In 2003, the town of Summerhaven, atop Mount Lemmon in Northern Arizona (near Tucson), was suddenly & completely evacuated. The evacuation is noted for several reasons [that align w/ your description]: Suddenness: The Aspen Fire began June 17, 2003, & was initially miles away. However, shifting winds/June 19 caused the fire to "blow up" & roar through the town w/in hours, giving residents almost no time to leave. The stories seem very fake, not real accounts of experiences. Perhaps it is because of the irritating, overly dramatic narration. I would like to listen to the stories but the narrator makes it impossible.
