Encore Episode. Today’s guest is Dr. Joel Kahn. He’s a world renowned Cardiologist, Author and Host of the podcast Heart Doc VIP. He’s also referred to as America's Healthy Heart Doctor. He gives us confidence that, yes, we can take charge of our health. In this interview, he shares practical advice and tools to help us crack the code on heart disease which still, hard to believe, is the leading cause of death. He believes that we can do much better…with a mix of testing (he says test don’t guess), a calcium heart scan, advanced labs if needed, a plant based diet, exercise, sleep, hormones, supplements and, if needed, medicine. He shares some of the research on a plant based diet and heart health, as well as its potential to reduce dementia risk. He’s very bullish on a plant based diet and you’ll understand why after listening to him. He’s passionate about making sure that we’re all as informed as possible. His extensive knowledge, experience and access to the latest research is truly empowering. And it’s nice that he’s a fun guy too. I’ve been on the track to learn more about heart disease personally — so was thrilled to have Joel on our show. I learned so much from him. Resource: drjoelkahn.comAs always, we’re Untangle, the podcast from Muse, the brain sensing headband dedicated to unlocking your brains potential AND Meditation Studio the five star app.Unlock 30 days of Meditation Studio for free at choosemuse.com/meditationstudio. Learn more about your ad choices. In this conversation, my guest, Hrund Gunnsteindottir, and I discuss the concept of 'Insaie', the Icelandic word for intuition— which means ‘to see ‘ in Icelandic…and we explore it’s deeper meanings and implications. Hrund shares insights on cultivating intuition, the importance of self-awareness, and the delicate balance between fear and intuition. She dives into personal experiences, the role of intuition in relationships, and practical tools for enhancing intuitive abilities. The discussion emphasizes the interconnectedness of intuition with creativity, healing, and higher consciousness, ultimately advocating for a more mindful and present approach to life. This is a rich discussion about how we all have intuition and the many ways to cultivate it. It plays such a vital role in our lives, especially in our relationships. As always, we’re untangle, the podcast from Muse the brain sensing headband that helps to transform your brain. Today’s guest is Michelle Chalfant, Author of the book The Adult Chair, Get Unstuck, Claim Your Power and Transform Your Life. She’s also a therapist and created the Adult Chair Model, where she combines psychology and grounded spirituality to inspire personal transformation. In this discussion, we explore the metaphor of life stages represented by chairs. Michelle shares her unique perspective on how the child, adolescent, and adult chairs symbolize our developmental journey. She delves into the significance of each stage, the unconscious beliefs formed in childhood and the impact of our childhood development on shaping our adult behaviors. The child chair, she says, lays the foundation or our initial road map; next comes the adolescent chair — the phase where our ego develops survival strategies based on our childhood; and then the adult chair, which ideally represents the stage of a healthy adult, generally starting around age twenty-five when the prefrontal cortex is developed. Living in the adult chair is marked by raised consciousness, awareness of self and others, living in the present moment, feeling emotions, setting boundaries, sharing needs, and taking responsibility for one's actions, choices, and motivations. It's a fascinating discussion!Resource: MichelleChalfant.comAs always, we’re untangle, the podcast from Muse the brain sensing headband that helps to transform your brain. Her thoughts on disrupting routine behaviors as a way to shift habits are fascinating. You won’t be surprised to know that she includes meditation in many of her workshops and meetings. He’s also the leading voice in the end-of-life care movement. He shares comforting and inspiring truths on how we live and die and on what matters most. When we get to the end of our lives, he says, the two questions most often asked are: "Did I love well?" and "Am I loved?" Today, we're diving into a topic that’s close to home for so many of us—Navigating our emotions.  It’s one of the most common struggles we face, and every time we explore it on Untangle, the response is overwhelming. My guest today is Dr. Alissa Jerud, a clinical psychologist, researcher, and the author of the book Emotion-Savvy Parenting. Her work focuses on helping us build practical, evidence-based strategies for navigating the storm of emotions that life inevitably brings. And, as you might guess, Anxiety is one of our most challenging emotions. What I love about Alissa’s approach is that she doesn’t treat anxiety as something to “get rid of.” Or any difficult emotion for that matter. Instead, she helps us understand it, accept it, work with it, and even grow through it. We talk about the myths of coping, how we often make things worse without meaning to, and why the strategies we instinctively reach for might not be serving us. We also learn how to become more emotionally agile, and the powerful practice of doing the opposite of what your anxiety urges you to do.If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by strong emotions and wanted to respond with more clarity, courage, and compassion, you’ll find this to be an interesting conversation. Resource: Alissajerud.comAs always, we’re untangle, the podcast from Muse the brain sensing headband that helps to transform your brain. Favorite Encore: Dr. Ellen Hendriksen is a clinical psychologist whose focus is on helping millions of people calm their anxiety so they can be more comfortable with their true selves. She serves on the faculty at Boston University's Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders and is the author of the book we discuss today, How to Be Yourself: Quiet the Inner Critic and Rise Above Social Anxiety. In this episode, we talk about the fear of being judged or rejected, and how to manage our somewhat distorted (and often annoying) negative thoughts. We’ve heard this before…your thoughts are NOT always true. Ellen discusses many ways to quiet the inner chatter that takes us down a rabbit hole and prevents us from living life, and enjoying it, to its fullest. She shares how we can actually rewire our brains through our behavior, make changes and let go of the 'monkey mind' inner critic. It’s not easy…but she suggests lots of small steps we can take. Todays guest is Zorana Ivcevic Pringle, a Senior Research Scientist on Creativity at Yale University and author of the book The Creativity Choice, The Science of Making Decisions to Turn ideas into action.  Zorana brings insights into the nature of the creative process, from the first decision to engage with new ideas to its culmination in creative performances and products.  The science of creativity shows that the key to successful creativity is the decision to act—and then deciding to act again and again, despite any physical, mental, or emotional obstacles, until ideas take shape and come to life. She shares some of the hidden parts of the creative process – from what it takes to get started on the journey of doing something with our ideas, to choosing which ideas to pursue to finding ways to persist when encountering inevitable difficulties along the way. I asked about the biggest obstacles and she shared that  we need strategies of problem finding and harnessing the power of emotions to persist through slumps and creative blocks. Finally, creativity is social even when it appears not to be. It’s no surprise that mindset makes a huge difference in how we stick with our creative process. Creativity is often misunderstood, but can enrich both our personal lives and the lives of others. There are lot’s of great nuggets here. Todays guest is Tali Sharot, professor of Cognitive neuroscience at University College London (UCL) and MIT. She’s also the Director of the Affective Brain Lab at University College London, which integrates neuroscience, behavioral economics, and psychology to study the influence of emotion and motivation on beliefs and decisions. Her most recent  book is called Look Again, The Power of Noticing What Was Already There. In this conversation, Tali  discusses her journey into neuroscience and psychology, exploring the intersection of these fields with behavioral economics. She delves into the concept of optimism, its effects on mental health and happiness, and the U-shaped curve of happiness across different life stages. There’s good news there.  She also shares insights on the phenomenon of habituation, explaining how we adapt to both positive and negative experiences in our lives and that this can have a very unexpected impact-  both good and bad. She explores the relationship between habituation and mental health, particularly in depression. She introduces the idea of 're-sparkling’— I love that word— as a way to bolster everyday experiences and bring more novelty into our lives.  She shares how re-sparkling can revitalize relationships and experiences and how creativity thrives on unexpected connections and changes. Changing environments and habits, she says, can really boost creative thinking.  As always, we’re Untangle, the podcast from Muse the brain sensing headband that helps to transform  your brain.
