Marty Jones was born on the 13th December 1953 in Oldham, Lancashire and knew from the age of six years old that he wanted to be a professional wrestler. Little did Marty know at this time however, just what he would go on to achieve in the wrestling business and the legacy that he would leave behind him. He made his wrestling debut in 1972 as an 18-year-old. He won his first singles championship on 12 November 1976 when he defeated "Rollerball" Mark Rocco for the British Light Heavyweight Championship. This was to be the start of a long and heated feud with Rocco, whom Jones also defeated for his British Heavy-Middleweight title only to immediately vacate the belt due to already holding a heavier British title. Marty Jones has a heart as big as a lion and wears it proudly on his sleeve. He is a serial fundraiser for numerous charities and always champions local sports, clubs, people and businesses. He has recently suffered from a string of injuries, dating back to his professional wrestling career, but has recently undergone ground breaking treatment to try and alleviate the discomfort. Listen to him talk about his life, family, career and what the future holds for this true Gentleman! #MartyJones #Wrestling #WWE #WWF #GiantHaystacks #BigDaddy #ITV #WorldOfSport #RollerballRocco #Oldham #Champion
Coronation Street is head and shoulders the best and most popular TV Soap in the world and we've just landed an interview with it's big boss! From humble beginnings, through a start in radio as a producer, Ian MacLeod eventually found himself knocking on the door of the Granada TV studios. He started at the bottom and has worked his way to the top. Add to that the fact that he is a top bloke to boot too. Can we get any spoilers out of him? Or maybe a couple of bit parts? #CoronationStreet #TV #Soap #AwardWinning #Podcast #BigAl #OwenSherratt #IanMacLeod #ITV #Producer

It is most likely you will have heard Kate Whelan's voice somewhere before. Being guided to your till whilst in a high street major supermarket, on an advertisement for a major airline, during a corporate presentation, or over the airwaves. She is fortunate to do what she loves and in a unique way, Kate brings their brand to life! She was also the news reporter on 96.2 The Revolution and as such, had to put up with whatever stupidity Al decided to throw at her, at stupid o'clock in the mornings! Al believes that Kate has "the most amazing female voice on the planet" and now has a restraining order against him, forbidding him to go within 400m of her. The next time you are shopping at Aldi, or you're watching an advert for shampoo, you'll know exactly what he means. #KateWhelan #Voiceover #962TheRevolution #RevolutionRadio #StevePenk #OwenSherratt #BigAl
The lads thought they were good at what they do... until they were joined on the podcasts by radio broadcasting guru Rob Charles! He has been a radio presenter for over 30 years and can also be heard as the voice of Mike on Forever FM, the radio station on Peter Kay's Car Share. #PeterKay #RobCharles #ForeverFM #CarShare #Radio #RadioPresenter #DJ #Broadcaster #BigAL #OwenSherratt #UpOnTheEdge #Podbean #Apple #ApplePodcast #Spotify #BBC #ITV
You know you've hit the back of the net when your name comes from being called a "Smug Bastard" on many occasions, when you've headlined shows alongside John Thompson and Paul Merton, when you were asked to appear in the cult movies "24hr Party People" and "Finding Eric", when you've compared the re-opening of the Embassy Club at the request of Bernard Manning Jr, when you've been on Top Of The Pops with your own song, when you've appeared in all but one of every production that Peter Kay has ever produced, when you've been shot by Paddy McGuinness and when you've done many radio shows with Big Al (amongst others...). Ladies and Gentlemen, it is a great honour to introduce to you this weeks podcasts special guest... the one, the only, Smug Roberts!!!! #SmugRoberts #John Thompson #PaulMerton #PeterKay #EmbassyClub #PhoenixNights #MrsBrownsBoys #FindingEric #24HourPartyPeople #OwenSherratt #BigAl #PaddyMcGuinness
It's official, Al's been around quite a bit, as Owen is about to find out. The lads are joined by singer and entertainer Graham Wheeler, who Al has played in bands with for more years than he cares to remember. They have played in venue's the length and breadth of Oldham together... ;) and even once did a tour of Tameside before being paid off.  Graham is famous for being not only the first person to walk off The X Factor away from Simon Cowell, but he did it twice... two years on the trot! Hear all the finer details, as they all catch up together...
Actor, singer and musician Stuart Wolfenden is the subject of the Podcast this week! Although people know Stuart through the many parts he's played in his acting career (Dead Mans Shoes, Coronation Street, The Virtues and Hollyoaks to name just a few) he's been singing and recording since the early days. He released his first single Too Many People, given to him by Russ Ballard, way back in 1992. Stuart talks about his time at school, his acting career and of course his music, the most recent of which was recorded at the Gracieland Studio in Rochdale, owned and run by none other than Lisa Stansfield. Make sure you visit www.stuartwolfenden.com to buy his latest album, which is out now! ************** Donate to the continued success of Up On The Edge Podcast here - Donate now Al & Owen met and became firm friends while working the “dream” job in radio. Sadly, after many years, the multinational groups came sniffing, the station was sold and all shows were networked going forward. The lads were undeterred and set about working on how to continue entertaining their listeners. Up On The Edge Podcast was born! It is written, produced and totally financed by Al & Owen, to bring you their own light hearted twist on goings on in the world, with the help of a different special guest on each show. We do this because we want to, but it costs us good money to do so. If you like what you hear/see and you are in a position to do so, we would both be extremely grateful if you would contribute to its continued being. If you can’t, that’s absolutely fine! The Podcast will still continue and we will still be delighted that you watch/listen. But if you can, believe us when we say “Thank you!” as things are as difficult for us right now, as they are for anyone else. Thank you for your continued support, because it all adds to the growth of the Podcast and ultimately that means everything to us! This is Part 2 of the interview with Simon Wood! www.feedingfamilieswithsimonwood.co.uk Forget that he owns his own restaurants, don't even bother about him being crowned Masterchef Champion 2015, you know someone has hit the big time when they get their own Wikipedia page! That's exactly what's happened to Oldham born and bred Simon Wood. He's also the best selling author of "At Home With Simon Wood - Fine Dining Made Simple" and he's also doing his bit for lockdown with #FeedingFamiliesFor30 showing us how we can eat really well each day for a week, for very little money. Add to that the fact that he is so down to Earth it's ridiculous, he's also very funny, he enjoys a glass of nice wine and he can hold his own in a conversation with Big Al & Owen. Slowly they were all getting more relaxed, due to the wine. So relaxed in fact, they had to cut the podcast into two episodes! "Hic!" This is going to be fun...  #SimonWood #WoodManchester #Masterchef #MasterchefChampion #Oldham #Chadderton #Restaurant #Chef #TheRevolution #Radio #TV #OwenSherratt #BigAl #Lockdown #FeedingFamiliesFor30 #FeedingFamiliesWithSimonWood

Al and Owen first met Big Lou at 96.2fm The Revolution, where they all worked as on-air presenters. But Manchester based Big Lou, is also a well known face on the comedy scene, who has a commanding stage presence matched by his punchlines and timing of their delivery. Big Lou has played most of the premier comedy venues in the North West and beyond. This is going to get messy! #BigLou #Comedy #BigAl #OwenSherratt #Revolution #Manchester #City #United
Andy Hoyle is a broadcasting legend around the north west of the UK. He's worked on more radio stations in one day, than most other presenters get to do in a career... FACT! He talks about about his career, the up's and down's, life on the road and the antics that presenters get up to both on and off the air. He's one of life's good guys, has a voice as pure as silk and even though you wouldn't think that butter would belt in his mouth, well... #AndyHoyle #TamesideRadio #Revolution #Radio #TV #TheBee #BBC #Granada #ITV #CharlesFoster #StevePenk #MattRamsbottom #BigAl #OwneSherratt

Part 2 of an in-depth conversation with the man who dared dream to set up his own radio station. Liam Forrestal tells how a team of dedicated individuals volunteered their way through a number of RSL's (Restricted Service Licence), to overcome adversity, jump fences and leap through hoops, all for the dream of getting a full licence for the iconic station that was 96.2 The Revolution. #LiamForrestal #Radio #RadioStation #RSL #TheRev #962TheRevolution #OwenSherratt #BigAl #AlanNield #UpOnTheEdge #StevePenk #MattRamsbottom

This is SPECIAL! Star of stage, screen and a brilliant vocalist too... we are delighted to have Darren Harper join us on this New Years Day! They speak about childhood in Oldham, missing out on a recording deal for a holiday, turning down the chance to be in the original line-up of the Backstreet Boys, driving for the NHS during lockdown, having one of your sons starring in Cold Feet and of course, yourself being blessed to be the son of one of the UK's most loved entertainers, Bobby Ball!
In this episode Al & Owen are joined by none other than the last ever owner of 96.2 The Revolution and the current owner of The Oldham Chronicle, Mom's Spaghetti and Madchester radio stations, Matt Ramsbottom. They cover a multitude of subjects from radio through to the best local bars, DJing in top night clubs and DJing from the back of a pick-up truck, Jack's Smoke House to the Old School Bus.
Happy Christmas one and all! Yes, we've gone and done it. A Christmas Day Podcast just for you and today we are joined by the Rugby Legend that is Barrie McDermott.  The subjects covered are of course the recent fund raising for his good friend who is suffering from MND, Rob Burrow and the ridiculous effort put in by another local legend Kevin Sinfield. They also talk about life growing up in Oldham, how on Earth he lost an eye at the age of 15, life on and off the rugby playing field, Barrie trying to talk Al into a weekend on the beer in Dublin and of course... that eventful night in 1996 outside Oldham's Cabaret night spot! One thing we are certain of, there will be a second part to this Podcast in the not so distant future! #BarrieMcDermott #Rugby #RugbyLeague #Oldham #LeedsRhinos #KevinSinfield #RobBurrow #Christmas #ChristmasDay
N-Trance Christmas Special! - Today the lads are joined by electronic dance music wizard Kevin O'Toole. Having had No1 hits around the world, issued Silver, Gold, Platinum and 2xPlatinum Discs for sales, worked with and produced more artists than Owen has drunk pints of bitter, the three friends get down to business... They talk about growing up in Oldham, living in Rochdale (where the neighbours were convinced he was a drug dealer!), watching the football World Cup with Pete Waterman, recording hit songs in his Dad's house and using the en-suite bathroom as a vocal booth! If you think the audio is funny, watch the video for it too! A Podcast for the beautiful people of Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside!
