In his second edition, Jools talks to Gordon Stevenson of Erskine about their new Erskine Veterans Radio along with talking about the work of the charity in lockdown. For many of us, listening to the radio is part of our everyday routine. It offers a level of companionship with uplifting music and helps us keep up to date with the latest news. Erskine is excited to announce the launch of our first Erskine Veterans’ Radio. You can listen to Erskine Veterans Radio 24 hours a day with great music you just have to sing along to. Presenter Ian Brannan also hosts an hour of music and conversation along with your mentions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 3 pm (repeated that day at 7pm if you miss it!). New shows will be available live and on-demand every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 3 pm – repeated at 7pm on those same days. Soft launch is April 19th. Veterans, families, and Erskine supporters globally can send in messages by filling out the form below or emailing radio@erskine.org.uk. Launching our new season of Cue Talks we have our new presenter Jools London talking to Sam Sloan of Blind Golf Scotland. Their purpose is to provide access to training, support and competitions to registered blind and visually impaired people in Scotland. Recognised as a governing body by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews we offer access to local, national and international competitions. Blind Golf Scotland are an associate member country of the International Blind Golf Association which oversees international golf competitions for blind golfers. Continuing with a Free Talking Newspapers Service of the Kirkintilloch Herald With the news that Strathkelvin Talking Newspaper has decided to close its doors with the last recording in December 2021 we at Cue and Review Recording Service are pleased to announce that we are going to attempt to take over the weekly recording from the 12th of January 2022 This recording will be available to listeners via the British Wireless for the Blind Funds players these players can be found at www.cueandreview.com/freepodcasts You have various options one is to listen directly on your computer using their online web players, you can also download their telephone app which has been specially designed with visually impaired people in mind this telephone app not only will include the Kirkintilloch herald but also Cue and Review titles such as the Herald Scotland, the Evening Times and The National along with other talking newspaper titles from around Scotland and the UK. Finally the latest development has been the audio controlled Alexa device, this device has recently come online and means that you can get a free Alexa device from Cue and Review delivered to your home and then with the assistance of a family member be able to follow some simple voice instructions to set the device up. Once you have this set up you will actually be able to simply use some basic commands to listen each day or each week to your title of choice meaning that you will no longer need to have to post your USB stick and wallet back to the provider. The role involves you contacting venues such as libraries health centres, hospitals and day care centres asking them to allow you to bring our display stand along and to talk to their clients. We are not just looking to speak to visually impaired people but also their sighted family and friends. We would look to recruit teams of two that would be able to act as ambassadors for the charity and be able to drive to each venue with the display materials.
