In today’s episode Joann and Kristina welcome IWTV fan and Jacob Anderson fan page curator Nado (@astronaut_Nado) who is here to help us dissect the events of season 2's penultimate episode: I Could Not Prevent It. This is a harrowing episode, one that we've been waiting for from the beginning, and one that has left so many fans heartbroken but in awe of the performances of each of the actors in this remarkable ensemble. Nado's contributions to this conversation were absolutely wonderful and we are so grateful that he agreed to join. His introduction to the genre was the first Blade film and his interest has only grown since then.  His mom was a fan of Anne Rice’s books and he’d seen bits of the 94 film as well as Queen of the Damned, which, for a long time, was his only reference point for the story. Although he’d seen rumblings of the IWTV television adaptation prior to the season one release, it wasn’t until he saw that Jacob Anderson was going to be part of the show that he became excited about it. Vampire stories told from a black or POC perspective are rare, so seeing him play the titular character piqued Nado’s interest. In today’s episode its just Joann and Kristina talking Episode 6: Like the Light by which God Made the World Before he Made Light. This is a critical episode, that defines the term slow burn. She fell completely in love with Jacob and Sam's performances as Louis and Sam, New Orleans production, 1910s/1920s costumes shout out Carol Cutshall, and of course Daniel Hart's beautifully orchestrated musical scores. She was not an Anne Rice fan, and did not discover the show through reading The Vampire Chronicles growing up, but was familiar with the 1994 film with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Kirsten Dunst. She has always loved shows about vampires since age 11 watching "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and later "True Blood". Since finding the show, she has read IWTV book, The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned, Tale of the Body Thief, and The Vampire Armand, she made a decision to get involved with AMC IWTV fandom after noticing that the show had little to no marketing behind it in 2022. So in November 2022, she created Black Girl Talk Fangs or BGTF on Instagram and other platforms to connect with fellow fans, and have been doing that ever since. IWTV fans sometimes ask how she came up with the BGTF name and her answer is: "I am a black girl who talks about vampires". We also dip into some opinion on how much (or how little) show writers should actually pay attention to fan opinion -- do they have an obligation to live into fan expectations or is it more artistically honest for them to ignore fan theories and hopes. We weave quite a bit of Interview With the Vampire chat into this conversation -- we found some interesting connections -- and we talk Anne Rice's significant impact on the vampire genre. This week's submission to the Vampire Insider Writer's Room is a sharp-toothed and sexy masterpiece by ModernDayLestat called Bite Me. It is an extremely spicy short story and Kristina, who loved it, had some struggles overcoming her shyness while reading it, but after a few funny false starts, we get into a great discussion about what blood sharing means to vampires.
