Our key focus in this season is how we as a church can be better focused on the return of Jesus Christ. This ramps up today with half a chapter from the Apostle Paul teaching us about the return of Jesus, how we will meet him, and what an encouragement this should be. Join us as Dominic Steele helps us to see ‘The Coming Day!’
While last week we thought about the ministry that Paul conducted, today our focus in on ‘The Pastor’s Heartbeat’. We see Paul’s pastoral affection, his sacrificial service, his clear priority, his real joy, and his earnest prayer. We are challenged about how we all might be more like the Apostle Paul in the ministry that we engage in at Village.
Today we think about ideal Christian ministry. We are looking at the ministry of the church in Thessalonica and think about what we can learn for 21st century inner west Sydney.
Today we hear about the church that we might imitate. The model church that God’s apostle Paul holds out to us as a role model for us to imitate. Join us as Dominic Steele opens up 1 Thessalonians 1.
Do you ever feel like God has abandoned you? Why were the words of this psalm some of the last words Jesus said before He died? Join us as Henry Pascoe helps us to explore this pivotal part of God's word.
All of us love love. With our community, country and world often declaring that “love is love”, how can we even know what love is? The answer is hidden in plain sight in the first letter of John in the New Testament. Not only do we discover that God is love, 1 John 4 explains how that love is fully revealed in Jesus’ selfless sacrifice. But there’s more. Our love for each other is to follow the lead of how God first loved us in Jesus.
Today is super personal as we look at our own hearts - and our tendency to want to ‘build a name for ourselves’ through our career, through our home, through our children or even through our carefully curated digital image of ourselves. How should an inner west Christian - members of the parish church in Babylon - approach life today?.
It’s a deep dive today into the character of God. Today we look at the challenging incident of the Genesis flood and it’s significant message for today - and why so many ask the wrong questions.
Today we discover that the message of Genesis 1-11 ultimately points to the message of the whole bible, the journey of the search for the serpent crusher. Jesus, who would come and defeat the devil and ultimately death and put everything right - but in the process be struck.
As we look at our world, and even at our own lives, it's possible to see things getting worse. What will God do when things get worse? In Genesis 4, we see that God won't give up.
In this second part of a detailed examination of Genesis 3, Dominic Steele opens up the impact of our rebellion against God on our identity, sexuality and relationships.
‘You do you’, ‘Follow your heart’, ‘Be true to yourself’ ‘Live your truth.’ We hear the whispers: ‘You know God cannot be trusted?, ‘God is selfish and you can’t trust his word?’, ‘Did God really say that. He didn’t did he?’ The same temptations that were faced by our first parents are ours today. Dominic Steele helps us understand ourselves and all the tensions of our life, by taking us back to the first sin in the garden, when Adam and Eve reached out to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Tonight, we explore how God built rest into the very fabric of creation, not as a burden, but as a blessing for His people. From God resting after creation, to His command for Israel to trust Him by keeping the Sabbath, to Jesus offering ultimate rest for our weary souls, the Bible shows that Sabbath is a gift pointing us toward eternity with Him. Far from being wasted time, true rest deepens our trust in God, reminds us of His rescue, renews our joy, and gives us a foretaste of the perfect rest to come in heaven.
We live in a relentless world of endless to-do lists and competing demands on our time. Ask an Australian how they feel, and chances are “busy” and “tired” will be towards the top of the list. Rest can seem like a luxury that few can afford. However, as we look at Genesis 2:1-2, we read that from the earliest chapters of the Bible, God himself models rest for us! As we continue our series on the first eleven chapters of Genesis, Tim Mitchell will help us to explore the deep and lasting rest God offers, and what this means for our busy lives.
Today we are looking at the creation of humanity - a creation that God purposes for relationship/community. We discover that there is one thing in God’s good creation that is not good - man’s aloneness. But what does this teaching mean for marriage and singleness, for families and communities today.
Today we explore what it is for humanity to be created in the image of God. We see our unique relationship with God, the significance of our physical bodies, that we are not created androgynous, but that sexual difference is fundamental and should not be minimised. Plus our sexed identity establishes our gendered relationships and potential marital and reproductive roles.
Today we start our new series for Term Three ‘In the beginning’. We are looking at the foundational chapters for the world, the first eleven chapters of Genesis. Dominic Steele opens up the first words of the bible today showing from that passage that it is God and his creation act, which ultimately gives us meaning, purpose and identity. Plus we see from Genesis One the failure of alternate world views: Polythiesm, Dualism, Astrology, Asceticism, Existentialism and Materialism.
Our lives are marked with uncertainty. Whether it’s about work, or study, or finances - it’s hard to feel like we are going to be okay. But as we pick up our series in 1 John again, we will see God’s answer to the uncertainty of the world. Even amongst the chaos and confusion of our world, God has set the path for all history, and He invites us to be conquerors of sin, death, and the world through His Son Jesus. Join us as we explore this magnificent part of God’s word.
There’s lots in life that can easily make people worried or anxious or scared. From personal challenges like health issues or the cost of living, to global issues like climate change and never ending wars and disasters. What difference does Jesus make as we wrestle with our worries? Does he really care about what we’re going through? And if so, does he actually have the power to do anything about it? Today is our Celebration Sunday, following on from the Village Kids Holiday Club. During today’s all ages service, Tim Mitchell will help us think through these important questions.
What does God have to do with our bodies - What we eat? Whether we exercise? What drugs we take? Who we sleep with? God is interested in these topics. But why? And what does he say? Should we resent this? Or is it appropriate? And what does the line in Paul’s letter to the Corinthians mean when Paul says ‘Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God?’
