We’re ending with a great one! Rachel Manor and Linda Steinhardt,  two Sport Dietitians formerly with UNC Athletics, who take a more therapeutic approach with their athletes than many in their field. This is because they are anti-diet dietitians, and since we have found such a small percentage of dietitians follow this approach (and because many athletes don’t have access to a dietitian at all) I wanted to bring them on to discuss what they do and how they help fight diet-culture! They also shared resources they like for you to check-out. Recommendations Mentioned in today's podcast:  Intuitive Eating: A Revolutionary Anti-Diet Approach  ANTI-DIET: RECLAIM YOUR TIME, MONEY, WELL-BEING, AND HAPPINESS THROUGH INTUITIVE EATING  Podcasts: Food Psych Podcast , Train Happy , & Maintenance Phase   Voice in Sport offers expert sessions and Linda is one of those experts!  Check out Rachel's interviews on The Benched Podcast and Nail Your Nutrition Podcast!) On today’s podcast we have Katie Steele of Thrive Mental Health joining us to talk mental health prevention and connectivity to self. Katie competed for the University of Oregon and Florida State University in Cross Country and Track, and she now works with women athletes to break down barriers they encounter in both sport and life. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Yoga Teacher as well.  I loved Katie's perspective on how we have to learn how to notice feelings, link what those feelings are and what our bodies' feedback is, to better understand and work with our emotions, especially as women athletes. Hopefully this podcast helps give you some tips on checking-in on your emotions to become more grounded athletes and humans in general.  Thrive Mental Health Website  Thrive Mental Health Therapy on Instagram --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/morethanmystats/support

Staci shares her ups and downs through her athletic and career path, and the thought process behind making some tough decisions. The huge decision to quit her sport her freshman year led to a series of events including her playing professionally abroad and coaching at the collegiate level. When you're making a decision (personal, athletic, or career) the weight of the decision can seem HEAVY with the fear of failure weighing on you. Staci's story is a good reminder that knowing your worth at your different life stages even when it feels like you may be taking a step backward and are worried about what friends and family will think will help lead you in the right direction for the life you want. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/morethanmystats/support
This week current student athlete  Liney Somerville, junior lacrosse player at John Hopkins University, joins us to talk about how talking about your own food, exercise, or body image issues could affect teammates negatively if they’re already dealing with their own struggles in those areas as well. If you’re no longer an athlete, try to take this into consideration when you’re talking with your friends or family as well.  You can find Liney's page on instagram at @changethevocab --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/morethanmystats/support
In today's episode, basketball player Kyra Hungerford (instagram @kyrasgoodeats ) joins The Virago Project to discuss her experience discovering she suffered from an eating disorder, and what the recovery process looked like for her. We discuss separating our problems from our identity, and that we are worth SO much more than our sport, our body, and any problems we are currently facing. All three of us really found strength when we were able to open up about our struggles with eating disorders and mental health, and acknowledge how hard it is to admit to yourself or a support person that you have a problem. Embracing we weren't a failure for having these problems, and that we deserved to get help changed our lives for the better, and we hope you listening are encouraged to open up to someone if you could use some help right now. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/morethanmystats/support
