Friday is here and Ollie and Rafa send you off to the weekend and the foreseeable future. They say their thank yous, as well as future predictions for major upcoming football events. We thank you for all your support and hope you continue to enjoy the football.
It's the Thursday edition of World Football Daily and we spend the majority of the show reviewing the Champions League match play from the weekend. We also inform the good audience of some impending news for the show. So tune in a make sure you listen.
Wednesday is here and Champions League is still gracing us with its presence. Graham Ruthven of One World Sports joins Ollie to review the Champions League Results from Tuesday and look ahead to the Wednesday night matches as well. Manchester United have a complete collapse in Greece, falling 2-0 to Olympiacos. The pressure just contines to mount on David Moyes. Suddenly we are hearing about last minute meetings being held by the higher-ups in he club to discuss the Moyes job-situation. We also look at the Dortmund result which should see the German side through when they return home for the second leg. Of course tonight, we see the return of Drogba to Chelsea. Does Jose have the leg up in the pre-match mind game front? Is this where Schalke bow out to Spanish giants Real Madrid? All these questions are answered by Graham. And then Rafa comes on to give his two pence on the Champions League action too!
Tuesday show is here and it's a Champions League Match Day. Our guest for the day is Kit Holden and he comes on to talk primarily about the German representatives in Champions League and Europa League knock out round play. Borussia Dortmund had a minor set back at the weekend being beaten heading into their Tuesday clash against Zenit St. Petersburg. We see whether or not Dortmund have bowed out of the league competition for success in Europe. We also look at Schalke's chances of ruining Real Madrid's la Decima.
It's the Monday show of World Football Daily which means you have a ton of football to catch up on from the weekend. Our guest for the day is Graham Hunter who gets to talk about Real Madrid finding their way to the top of la Liga. But it that their goal for the season? Or is la Decima the be-all, end-all for los Blancos. Plus, should we be shocked that Real Sociedad beat Barcelona 3-1? Are there other teams in la Liga worth talking about outside of the new Top Three? What does Sociedad's win say for City who just went down to FCB are home at the Etihad midweek. Graham gives us his opinion on all this and more. Rafa come on the program to talk about some Ligue 1 football, a shocking, but telling result from Borussia Dortmund, and whatever else he can squeeze into the program that isn't Rangers.
The Friday edition of the show is here and we at World Football Daily are still coming down from our Champions League and Europa League highs. Our guest for the day is the London-based writer for the Times, Rory Smith. Rory comes on to dive deeper into the story of Mesut Ozil and his time at Arsenal. Have his teammates given up on him or can he find the form he started the Premier League season off with again? What chances do the Arsenal really have going back to Munich for the second leg? We also look at some results from the Europa League with Swansea putting on an incredible performance against Rafa Benitez' Napoli, but didn't manage to come away with any positive results. Spurs ended up with some chaotic defending that led to a late goal to put them down going back to White Hart Lane against their former boss Juande Ramos. Rory Smith gives us an incredible review of the football from midweek. Rafa comes on the program to talk about the Europa League matches that he watched yesterday. On top of that, the boys play some I Know The Score and look at the Major League Soccer purchase of Chivas USA. We send you off to the weekend in the best possible way.
It a big Thursday on today's program and we're excited to talk about a ton of football from around the world. Kim Tate joins Ollie to talk Liga MX as the first guest of the day. She talks about the only unbeaten team in Mexico, Cruz Azul who under Luis Fernando Tena who seems to get the best out of his players, including Marco Fabian. We also discuss the headline grabbing transfer of the MLS Golden boot winner to Queretaro FC. Camilo Sanvezzo has yet to make the start for his new club which begs a question or two from those who challenged the move. Plus, Kim explains why Leon and Santos Laguna have been struggling this tournament. Then, Kim holds Ollie's hand as we dive further into South America for some Copa Libertadores too! Will Tidey joins the program next to review all the Champions League action from Tuesday and Wednesday. The World Football writer for the Bleacher Report tells us whether or not the triple punishment of a red carded keeper or defender who denies a goal scoring opportunity should be changed or kept the same. Are the referees doing a poor job in Europe? Who, aside from AC Milan this week, look like they still have a real chance of progressing on in the tournament after going down in their first leg matches? All these questions are answered and more. Then Rafa comes on the program to help dive deep into the Arsenal v Bayern Munich match, as well as the AC Milan v Atletico match before he and Ollie try to wrap up the show with a little Europa League discussion.
So much to say, but we're going to leave it to the pod to get it all out. Our guest for the day is a dear friend of ours who used to work here in North America for Fox Soccer, but has taken his talents back overseas to the UK where Eoin O'Callahan has been covering football still, but expanded his horizons to various other sports. We get to talk about the Champions League with Eoin today, reflecting back at the Manchester City loss to Barcelona and trying to sort out what the Citizens could have done better to combat the perennial powerhouse that is FCB. We also get the shortest response ever from Eoin when we discuss PSG's domination of Bayer Leverkuensen last night in Germany. Then, it's on to tonight's matches where Arsenal host the German giants Bayern Munich and AC Milan host Atletico Madrid in the first ever meeting between the two. And since it's going on and we're fans of sport in general, Eoin and Ollie squeeze in a little Olympic discussion. Rafa also comes on to talk about the Donkey of a defender that is Martin Demichelis, but still manages to praise City in their play yesterday. Rafa also stands up for Manuel Pellegrini for his open criticism of the referees in Tuesday night's match. You'll have to have a listen to the show for the full explanation.
The Champions League is back and we're set to explode waiting for kick off today. Our guest for the day is Spanish football writer Paul MacDonald who joins us ahead of tonight's matches to talk about the three teams still competing in Europes greatest club competition. With tonight's fixtures featuring the gigantic clash of Manchester City and FC Barcelona, we try to see what separates these two highly talented squads. It's almost getting too hard to tell which team has an upper hand in the battle, and most people are already tipping the match to be an instant classic. But we try to take a realistic point of view as we touch on tonight's matches with Paul. It's been a while since we had Paul on last so we jump at the opportunity to look ahead to Atletico's clash with AC Milan and Real Madrid's clash with Schalke. Rafa comes on next to give his opinion on the Champions League returning to our televisions before he and Ollie get off track with a little Beckham and Miami FC discussion.
Monday is here and the amount of football to talk about seems endless. Our guest for the day is the Telegraph's very own Jonathan Liew to help us review the massive news coming out of the FA Cup weekend. Hard to tell where to start, but rest assure, we get Jonathan's opinion on the call that never came from England's best referee and World Cup representative in Howard Webb. There was a sure fire penalty on Liverpool star Luis Suarez, and the no call begs the question, why? Why didn't Webb make the call that everyone else, including Arsenal supporters seem to recognize. Surely Howard Webb is above being a subjective official who takes out his personal bias on players he dislikes. Manchester City dispatched of Chelsea, claiming back their home ground after being beaten by the Londoners at the Etihad in the league recently. We get Liew's opinion on whether Jose and his men were OK with dropping out of the FA Cup. What does the other side of the Merseyside Derby have in store for the rest of the tournament. The Toffees struggled a bit in the first half, but managed to step up to the task at hand in the second. Plus, we look at how the fixture build up might affect those teams still competing in Europe.
Rafa comes on after Jonathan to give us his opinion on the FA Cup action. We even get a little bit of the Arsenal-apologist from Rafa as he stands up for Wenger's men and even some of Wenger's comments back towards Jose Mourinho who called out the Arsenal boss as being a Specialist in Losing. Rafa also brings up the interesting results coming out of the three horse title race in la Liga. Sure Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid both bagged three goals from their fixtures, but it was Barcelona who raised the bar, scoring 6 goals from 5 different players, along with 5 different players providing assists on the goals. Regardless, if you're playing any Spanish team in the Champions League, be afraid. Ollie also reviews all the major football results coming out of Germany, Italy and France. Make sure you join in the discussion by emailing the show or chiming into the WFD social network. Enjoy the show.
The Friday show is here and we're sending you off to the weekend fully prepped and ready for all the football to be had at the weekend. Our guest for the day is the English football writer Chris Winterburn who helps us look back at some of the Premier League fixtures during the week before we look ahead to the massive football to be played in the FA Cup. We have some massive match ups this weekend with the main one being Chelsea traveling back to Manchester City to give us a rematch of a Monday Night meeting two weeks ago. Jose Mourinho's little horses take on the thoroughbreds that are Manchester City and more than likely, there are plenty of reasons why Manuel Peligrini's men will want to exact revenge. We also lucky enough to get another rematch when Liverpool hosts Arsenal this Sunday. Will Arsene Wenger's men be able to make up for the embarrassment they faced last weekend? Winterburn gives us his thoughts on the chances of Arsenal facing complete collapse in the face of a clearly tough schedule ahead of them. We are really lucky to have such interesting football to watch this season in England and Chris helps us preview this.
Rafa comes on to give everyone some sane advice for Valentine's Day, because oh yes, it's that wonderful time of the year that every sucker... uhhh, every man gets dragged into. Once we get past the Valentine's Day discussion, it's on to some major football talk from Spain where Rafa brings up a derby to end all derbies. Sort of. Real Madrid Castilla takes on Barcelona B in the Segunda Division version of el Clasico. Once we get past this, the boys talk about serious Primera Division football from la Liga with a discussion on the mental fortitude of Atletico Madrid. Then it's on to some Serie A talk before the boy send you off for the weekend.
Thursday is here and with it brings a bit of competition to our airwaves. You see, Ollie and Rafa are unable to link up to record anything today, but that only spurs on a bit of competition in today's show. Sure, Juice is going to talk about the disappointing two hours we wasted on Arsenal v Manchester United, along with other pretty straight forward results like Barcelona reaching the Copa del Rey final to set up another el Clasico for us this year. But because Ollie was unable to link up with Rafa today, he threw down a challenge to see who could bring on the best guest and produce the best interview for the day. All this means for you is that you get top shelf football talk with some brilliant minds.
Ollie decided to take it straight to Rafa and the North American listeners of the show when he brings on the lovely Kim Tate to talk Liga MX and the Xolos from Tijuana. Americans seem to be influencing Liga MX beyond the boarder town of TJ, but we start there as the Xolos travel to Santos Laguna where both teams look desperate to get a win. Santos found a way to get through their Argentinian opponent in Copa Libertadores, but their striking duo up top have been running a little dry when it comes to bagging goals. There is a special connection most American soccer supporters have with Xolos and that's where we focus this discussion though, especially since Kim has had some incredible access to the club. Her passport must be getting filled pretty quickly as she talks about the connections that Xolos have with San Diego, as well as the way they scrapped by at home to Monterrey.
Rafa brings on a special guest, close to his heart... pun completely intended. In a bid to top Ollie's guest, Rafa's flexes his European football knowledge by bringing on a guest to talk about Scottish football, particularly Rangers FC. Yes, it is his club, but knowing that he rarely gets the opportunity to talk about RFC and Scottish football, Rafa jumped at the opportunity. David Edgar, host of Heart and Hand, The Rangers Podcast, joins Rafa to talk about the state of Scottish football and whether or not there is any hope for the future of it. The boys reflect on life in the lower leagues of Scotland, which includes peeing in hedges, learning names of clubs that are impossible to pronounce, and gaining new friends on the way back to the top flight of Scotland. David explains the main issues plaguing Rangers today, both on and off the pitch, as well as potential League Cup success. And just so you don't think it's all Rangers, David breaks down the title chase in England and why we are witnessing a football anomaly.
Plenty of football to kick about this Thursday and even more to look forward as the weekend approaches. So plug in and let us know what interview you enjoyed more!
It's the Wednesday edition of World Football Daily with plenty to kick about with midweek football coming from all around the globe. Our guest for the day is the legendary European football writer and dear friend for the show, Andy Brassell. Andy joins us from Germany where he is covering the German Cup, attending the Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Dortmund yesterday and making an appearance at Hamburg v Bayern Munich tonight. Dortmund get a big win to keep their hopes for silverware alive as they scrap past Frankfurt. Andy tries to explain why Dortmund have struggled some this season to live up to the expectations of football fans around the world. The Brass also talks about the tough story of Robert Lewandowski who is dealing with false accusations of hitting a kid and having his Porsche vandalized. Andy also explains what sort of expectations Bayern Munich have on them this season from fans and as you can imagine, invincibility is not out of the question. Hamburg may not have much hope against Bayern, but we try to figure out how to solve the problems at that club with Andy. We wrap up with Andy on the topic of Julian Draxler and the potential move to Arsenal during the January transfer window.
Rafa then comes on the program to talk about his daughter's pink eye and how it allowed him to watch plenty of football yesterday, which in turn was a great thing for the show because Ollie missed out on much of it because of his commentating of a Tennis tournament in Mississippi. We break down exactly who will step up and grab hold of this Premier League title and Rafa asks for credit for sort-of calling the Chelsea/West Brom match. Ollie talks about the importance of the Arsenal v Manchester United fixture tonight for both clubs who seem to be teetering on collapse in many different ways. The boys also discuss the incredible two-legged affair between Fiorentina and Udinese with wonder goals coming from all over the place. Then of course there was the Copa del Rey action which saw Ronaldo and Bale both drawing a penalty that CR7 kindly put away to completely demoralize an Atletico Madrid side who may have been checked out of this competition already. And we wrap up the show with some bone-head moves from Rafa and Ollie yesterday. Make sure to tune in and find out what happened to them.
It's the Tuesday edition of World Football Daily and there is more football than you can shake a stick at today. Let's start things off with our guest who is the first Spanish football correspondent we've had in a while. Joseph Sexton joins the program to talk about the King's Cup and Atletico Madrid's chances in the return leg against Real Madrid tonight. The Madrid derby seems a little out of reach for Atletico, but the last time they beat Real by four goals was when Luis Aragones was in charge. So maybe, just maybe, the heavens may be looking down on Atletico to help them out a little. Joseph also looks at the shock losses that Atletico have managed to rack up in recent play, but they still manage to be atop la Liga. We look at the transfer window moves made by Atletico and the rest of la Liga, before looking at the other side of the Copa del Rey tomorrow. Sexton also looks at the strange story of Karim Benzema who recently reached the same scoring tally as the Original Ronaldo.
Rafa comes on the program to play some IKTS with Ollie as we look at the mid week fixtures from the English Premier League. Once again, Rafa has a couple interesting perspectives on consistency and potential upsets in the matches today and tomorrow. Before that though, Ollie gets us lost in Copa Libertadores as we discuss the disappointing style of play coming from Argentinian football. This wander into South American football sets off a tremendous debate between Ollie and Rafa as to whether or not Ronaldinho would be able to slot in to the current Swansea City starting 11. We end up posting a poll which can be found on the home page of World Football Daily so make sure you give us your opinion and then write in with your reasoning. Thanks for listening as always and we appreciate all the facebook messages, tweets and emails.
The football has been non-stop this past weekend, but the sporting world in general is going off the chain! It's the Monday edition of World Football Daily and we hope you are strapped in and ready for a show full of good sports talk.
Our guest for the day is a football writer for the Daily Mail and a good friend of the show. Sami Mokbel joins the program today to review all the majors stories coming out of England this past weekend. Without question, one of the biggest stories coming out of the Premier League this weekend is the absolute demolition of Arsenal at the hands of Liverpool. It was this fixture that starts off a hellish run of matches for the Arsenal this month and next. It was this fixture that Arsene Wenger needed to get right to make sure that his team could stay top of table. But unfortunately, it looks like it's this fixture which might start a long and demoralizing slide from the pole position in the Premier League. The other main topic of discussion coming out of the Premier League this past weekend is the sad result that United got hosting Fulham. Fulham picked up a late goal to tie Manchester United 2-2 at Old Trafford and it looks like the whole of Manchester are turning their backs on David Moyes now. Lots of other results and stories to kick about with Sami and we're happy to have him on to discuss them.
Rafa comes on after Sami to talk football, yes, but also to generally have fun looking at the sporting world as a whole. For example, Rafa and Ollie bring up the story of Michael Sam of Missouri who will be drafted in the NFL and has come out as an openly gay football player. Rafa, Ollie and the show are more than happy to support Sam in his journey in to the professional ranks and Rafa even points out that he thinks the NFL will really come to the support of their players who come out, probably more so than what we would see in European football. Of course, the Olympics are going on, and we're all happy to admit that we definitely got distracted by several of the competitions. In terms of football, Ollie sticks it to Rafa who claimed that Fulham are Manchester United's bogey team with no real evidence. Rafa also sticks to his theory that Moyes has until next season to show results for himself. The boys also review some Italian football where Ollie was right to worry that Juventus would slip up this weekend against Verona, but Roma were unable to capitalize on this as the Rome Derby ended 0-0. Rafa brings up the potential loan move of Brazilian no.1 Julio Cesar to Toronto FC before we sign off and send you on your way. We encourage you to write in with your thoughts: email us, tweet us, or catch us on the facebook. Whatever you do, just get involved.
As promised, World Football Daily finishes the week off strong. Our guest for the day is English football writer Nick Szczepanik who joins Ollie back in the UK, even though both he and Ollie were just in New York/New Jersey for the Super Bowl. It's somewhat of a tradition for us here on the show to have Nick after a Super Bowl and we make sure to quickly get his experience on this most recent Big Game. The two boys reflect on the impact that weather had on the game and it's general weekend before getting Nick's thoughts on the Bronco's collapse. Then it's down to the business for which we got the sports writer on. Two massive games at the weekend with Liverpool and Arsenal facing off on Saturday before Spurs host Everton on Sunday. Both will have massive implications on the league table and we talk to Nick about what we should expect to see from the league leaders and those fighting for a place in Europe, if not the title.
Rafa joins Ollie to play a little I Know The Score, before the boys jump into other major fixtures to keep an eye on across Europe. Berbatov slots in up top for Monaco who host Paris Saint Germain, but will be offer enough to push the principality over the top? Rafa wonders what sort of records Bayern Munich will break this weekend while Ollie is over looking at the Bundesliga Champions and has moved on to the teams fighting for European spots in Germany. We also look at some significant matches in Serie A before Rafa closes the show with a little Major League Soccer discussion, starting with Bruce Arena getting a contract extension at the Los Angeles Galaxy. We look forward to the weekend and coming back on Monday with a show worth of topics to talk about.
He's Back! Yes, Oliver is back from his extended American Holiday which saw him in New York and New Jersey over the Super Bowl weekend. And now that he is back we happily put him straight to work. Ollie dives right into with our first guest, French football writer and contributor to various media outlets like Goal.com and more, Robin Bairner joins the program to catch us up on all that we've missed since the last time we've spoke. First things first, we jump into the Coupe de la Ligue where PSG continue their overall dominance of any opposition in their way. Zlatan seems to score wonder goals every other game his is playing in and this week was no different. The final is set with the Parisian giants taking on familiar foes Lyon as Bafetimbi Gomis getting the goal that put his side through. So we look ahead to what we can expect when these two teams clash in the final in a few week's time. We also look ahead to Ligue 1 action which kicks off tomorrow, previewing the matches to watch and what to let slide. We also discuss the transfer window and the move that never came to be with Clement and his agent deciding against the move to Newcastle. And are people finally turning sour grapes over Financial Fair Play and how it pertains to PSG? Robin explains it all.
Then Rafa joins the program to welcome back Ollie properly. Yes, we take a little bit of time to relive the dream vacation Ollie experience while here in the States, taking in the sights and sounds of NYC/NJ. But the boys quickly turn to business as Ollie came home to the terrible news of Michael Laudrup being sacked by Swansea City. Sure there were some massive rumors swirling around the club and it's manager, but Ollie argues that Laudrup could have taken this team even further than the League Cup success they found last season. We jump around a bit from there, talking a little bit about the Kim Kalstrom transfer from Arsenal, the relief that Atletico Madrid might have being able to bow out of the Copa del Rey, and we pay our respect to Luis Aragones again... because you really cannot over do it for this guy. Ollie and Rafa kick about the idea of Miami FC and David Beckham's influence on a city which is probably the toughest to succeed in when it comes to professional sport. It's really a love-fest here today though. So tune in and know that normality is restored. This is World Football Daily.
So Rafa may have lied a bit about Ollie's return. The Brit has not fully returned from Holiday, but we are expecting his return come Thursday. With that said, there is still some football to look at today and Rafa kicks things off with a Summer wish list from Jose Mourinho who has his heart set a three potential srtikers, in hopes of bringing in one of them. Rafa also talks about a day full of birthdays before we review some Cup compeitions from around Europe. Some wicked goals coming from the Udinese and Fiorentina clash last ight, as well as a sweet goal from Zlatan in the Coupe de ls Ligue. We hit up some transfer rumors and talk about Miami FC which will be announced today. Hope you enjoy it!
It's the Tuesday edition of World Football Daily and it should be the last day that Ollie is out so never fear, our Brit will be here. In the mean time, Rafa stands in without a guest today to talk about the big match from Monday night. Chelsea come away with all three points, in a game that carried a lot of firsts. Even though Jose is now saying that his team is a young horse who is a season away from racing the likes of City and Arsenal who are the grown horses in the title race, you can't help but think that it's just another mind game that the Special One is playing. With all this talk of Chelsea and City fighting for the title, why isn't anyone taking Arsenal seriously? Rafa also looks at some Spanish football, Copa del Rey action, plus Coppa Italia and Coupe de la Ligue too. Yes... that's a lot of cups in different languages.
Where to start on this Monday? Such a massive sporting weekend to review and Rafa does his best with a man down to the squad as Ollie is still away on holiday. Of course, Rafa gives his two pence on the US victory over South Korea, focusing on how the defense of the Americans is still shoddy and the Koreans very well may have been robbed of a goal. A friendly yes, but the US still needs to tighten up in the back. We also jump into some Spanish football as Atletico Madrid go top of the table after Barcelona lose and Real Madrid stumble to a draw. Cristiano Ronaldo may face further punishment after the straight red he received in the match against Bilbao. Rafa also pays respect to Luis Aragones who passed away at the age of 75 on Saturday in Madrid. We close the show with a little Italian and German discussion with records being broken and slaps being dealt all over.
Our guest for the day is a new one. Graham Ruthven is the English Premier League journalist for One World Sports and he joins Rafa to talk about the massive Monday Night Football match on tonight with Manchester City taking on Chelsea. With over 100 million viewers expected for this match, we analyze how important this league match is in the grand scheme of the Premier League table. Jose may have complained about 19th century football from West Ham, but will Chelsea resemble that same style of play against City? How has the edge in the clash of the rich? Graham answers these all, plus we go in to an uncharacteristic buy from the Arsenal when they picked up Kalstrom in the waning moments of the January transfer window. Lastly, we breakdown who we think will finish top four in the table come the end of the season.
Plug in those headphones and start writing your emails. We look forward to hearing from you.
