This time around I’m recommending The Way We Haunt Now, a lightly horror audio drama about friends, found family, and changing the narratives that try to define us – all subjects our show is into as well! And of course, there are ghosts. Give it a listen, and if you like it, remember to rate and review!  Around here, we’re gearing up for the next full-length episode, where we’ll meet two new characters with familiar voices if you know our other shows. Get ready for the Lindworm and the Hodag – or is it just Hodag? We’ll sort that out next time; for now, well-wishes as you ride the waves!  Network: https://fableandfolly.com/ Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@waitingforoct Tumblr: @monkeymanproductions Discord: https://discord.gg/6NAhrG5 Facebook: Monkeyman Productions BlueSky: @monkeyman.bsky.social Merch: http://tee.pub/lic/zUb0YN1_6mw Learn more about your ad choices. Our recommendation this episode is such a delightful one – Stories from Ylelmore! This is such a wonderful adventure that’s so fun and thoughtful and well-made and family-friendly – about witches, werewolves, curses, and a world where the magical is absolutely everyday. You don’t want to miss it – go listen right now.  Meanwhile, we’ll be looking forward to our second monologue episode – featuring the Raven, who might be magical but is definitely NOT family-friendly! But you won’t want to miss that, either. Until then, take care, watch for bildads in the underbrush, and keep an ear out for some good poetry along the way.  Network: https://fableandfolly.com/ Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@waitingforoct Tumblr: @monkeymanproductions Discord: https://discord.gg/6NAhrG5 Facebook: Monkeyman Productions BlueSky: @monkeyman.bsky.social Merch: http://tee.pub/lic/zUb0YN1_6mw Learn more about your ad choices. Here’s a lighthearted rec after that foul-mouthed Raven – why not check out Wanderer’s Journal? It’s a fantasy fiction podcast about Marigold and Pluto, two adventurers linked by a magical journal and an ancient mystery. The way the story unfolds is truly fascinating – check it out and see what you think!  Next time in our story, we’ll be digging deeper with Karo and Yvonne in an episode that includes a special musical guest! So get yourselves ready for that – but for now, settle in for the night, maybe read a bit of Poe beside the fire, and don’t worry about that knocking at the door, I’m sure it’ll take care of itself. Nevermore!   Network: https://fableandfolly.com/ Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@waitingforoct Tumblr: @monkeymanproductions Discord: https://discord.gg/6NAhrG5 Facebook: Monkeyman Productions BlueSky: @monkeyman.bsky.social Merch: http://tee.pub/lic/zUb0YN1_6mw Learn more about your ad choices. This week’s recommendation was a big influence on our show – The Cryptonaturalist, Jarod Anderson’s spectacular narrative fiction podcast about real love for imaginary nature. He’s a poet and a gifted performer and I can’t get enough of his voice. Go check it out in any of your podcast apps.  Next time around in October you’ll be hearing from Auncle Lantern as xe gives some instructions to a new crop about life on that side. Today I’d like to recommend Tranthologies, a trans anthology podcast with stories that range from silly to serious, that jump from genre to genre depending on the episode, but every one is touching and incredibly trans. You really ought to give them a listen.  Next episode on our show, we explore the big city in our monster world – with the help of an Entling, a Bugbear, a few ghostly voices, and a completely ordinary cat. Our recommendation this time around is a personal favourite – Back Again, Back Again, a really awesome fantasy story about ex-prophecy children, the end of adventures, and queer girls with swords. It’s an engrossing narrative by a really talented writer / performer, and you should give it a try.  Next time, we’ll be bringing you more from the real star of this episode – Frederick the cat! It’s a full monologue following this little guy around October searching for their place. We’ll see where they end up. Bye for now! Thank you for your support! Today’s recommendation is going to be a bit of an odd one – they only released three episodes back in 2019 and then disappeared! But I keep revisiting those episodes. B.S Cryptid is a fiction podcast about two Australians exploring the US and finding cryptids wherever they go. Pretty appropriate for October fans, right? Go check it out!  Meanwhile, we’ll be getting ready for the next piece of our story, where Karo and Yvonne come back to our world for a change! It’s an absolutely one of a kind award-winning audio drama about hearing loss, deaf gain, and navigating the world through changing circumstances. They just started their second season, and it’s a must-listen.  On our end, next episode will focus on our best werewolf boy, Grey, as he gives some advice to his pack. Thank you for your support! Sliding in with another show to suggest for your listening pleasure – and this one is from our composer, Trace Callahan. Go into your podcast app and look for The Last Echoes – it’s a political sci-fi story that’s deeply fascinating and deeply meaningful.  We’ll return to October next episode, but without one of our lead characters! It’s time for Yvonne to have her solo mission … though it might not turn out quite as solo as she thinks. Today our Crowdfundr shoutout is to James Des Cotes and Jeff Xilon. Thank you for your support! This time around, I’m here to recommend a story steeped in a world of myth – Forged Bonds, an emotionally captivating retelling of the story of Aphrodite and Hephaestus. I’ve been caught up in it since the first episode, and if anything about mythology, love stories, and political entwinement catches your interest, you should check it out.  For us, we’ll be getting ready for our next monologue minisode – and Karo is visiting an old friend but someone completely new to us – Enoch, the Mothman! It’ll be a quieter story after this episode seeing the kaiju, but I think you’ll enjoy! Until then! Today, I’m recommending an audio drama from one of our cast members - Adam Qutaishat, who plays our werebear Karim - you’ll hear more from him soon! The show is called Vigil, and it’s an intense, engrossing superhero thriller that’s uniquely told and performed. Find it anywhere you listen, and let them know we sent you.  Next episode here, it’s Karo’s turn for a solo quest, where they’re headed … do you know? Can you guess? Would it help if I told you the guest stars are our Raven, Cole Burkhardt playing one of the Gill folks, and … no, I’ll hold back that last one, that gives it all away! For now, keep an eye on the treetops when you’re out at night, praise the lord and pass the taters! I thought after Karo’s journey today, it was a good time to suggest you listen to one of my favourite cryptid stories about watery adventures - Come On In The Water’s Fine, by friend of the show Shade Oyemakinwa. It’s an anthology of mermaid stories that is dreamy and engrossing and it all flows so beautifully in Shade’s amazing voice. Listen with your eyes closed.  Getting back to October, next episode we’re going to hear a monologue from Yvonne, fresh off the mountain and her kaiju adventure! Deej here with another recommendation for your drama-loving earholes – and this one has captivated me from Episode One – The Night Post! This is a podcast series about the couriers of a haunting, damaged city at odds with the ancient, arcane frontier that surrounds it. It’s dark and queer and absolutely incredible.  Next time in our story, we’re bringing you the season finale! Karo and Yvonne come back together after their individual journeys and … where do they wind up together? You’ll find out very soon. Hold on tight to your friends and your stories until then! Hi folks, Deej here, and we've got another episode swap where we're introducing you to a show we think you should hear. Though honestly, I'm surprised if you haven't heard of this one! Greater Boston is one of the absolute juggernauts in the audio fiction sphere, and it's been one of my top listens since the very beginning. When I try to introduce it to someone new, I always wind up calling it Dickensian - not because it's a period piece, but because of the incredible scope of the story, the heightened reality while still being very real and very vital, and the focus on social issues and collective solutions. Their story ranges from very personal, deeply emotional moments to great sweeping adventures as a whole new city is born on the rails of the Red Line to  hilarious diversions into pop culture or characters clashing or the pizza ghost ... all brought to you by so many hugely talented writers and voice actors and technicians I admire. It's beautiful and earthy and important and exquisitely crafted and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.  The clip that comes next is an excerpt from the first episode of the series. Listen, let it seep into you, and then go find Greater Boston in your podcast apps or online at GreaterBostonShow.com to hear more. Today our Crowdfundr shoutout is to Shade Oyemakinwa and Shae Salts. Thank you for your support! This big an episode deserves a big recommendation – and I’ve got two in one for you today! Tau Zaman, friend of the show, cast member, and script consultant, runs two fantastic series of their own you really need to check out! Caravan is an incredible supernatural western adventure you have to hear to believe, and Rogue Runners is the best actual play podcast I’ve ever heard, set in the world of the video game Hades! Listen to both of them now! And for us … this may have been the season finale, but it’s not the last you’re going to hear! Because more seasons, I’d hope, but right now we’ve still got one more monologue to share before we take a break – and that’ll be Karo letting us know where they’re at after finding a way forward. Get ready for that, and Happy Halloween – at least in the world of October! Thank you for your support! And here we are, at the very end of Season One! It’s been quite an adventure, and I want to thank you so much for listening. Everything about this show has been a really personal, very emotional journey for so many of us involved, and we can’t wait to see where it takes us next. After all, remember – we write the story, it doesn’t write us! Our next steps will be working on the first between-seasons miniseries – which as you’ve heard, might involve the Moon – and then starting to plot out Season Two. But while we’re taking a bit of a well-earned break and then diving in on that, we could use your help too! Your support of the show and participation in our community is just as important. When you share the show with friends, recommend or rate us on social media or your podcast app or places like Podchaser … when you join our Patreon or buy our merch … all of that is incredibly, vitally important and it means the world – all the worlds, really – to us when you do it. So another thank you for that to everyone who participates! And one last note before we say farewell for a while. It’s a really rough time in the world for so many reasons, and it’s so hard to keep it together and to find ways to keep pushing back. Please, remember that self-care and connecting with others is a big part of resistance. Be good to yourself, be good to the people around you, and know that we are with you. So much love.  Network: https://fableandfolly.com/ Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@waitingforoct Tumblr: @monkeymanproductions Discord: https://discord.gg/6NAhrG5 Facebook: Monkeyman Productions BlueSky: @monkeyman.bsky.social Merch: http://tee.pub/lic/zUb0YN1_6mw Learn more about your ad choices.
