Hi Peeps!   Been a long time between episodes - finally got this up from what must have been back in Feb/March. We talk about the weather and the february rain in Boreen Point for 10 minutes.  Recall some youthful stories of getting sprung by girlfriends’ parents. More NZ love; Volcanoes being rad. Harry waxes geological-historical.  I make a reference to The Importance of Being Earnest, which goes unnoticed.  A little of my grandparent’s story. Harry’s latest Audiobook biography. Enjoy :)

Harry & Garth are back for the first time in the Wandering Room for 2018!  It's been a while since episodes but this was a great return - hear some of Harry's Benjamin Button styled plan for the next half of his life, a practical guide for how we can save the planet from plastic, and an astonishingly good tale connecting san Audio Book to a movie to the grit of our forebears. It's good to be back, hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

In today’s episode Harry catches up with Garth as he calls in from Kenilworth Qld.  After 12 months on the road, the questions of how we’re ever gonna stop this trip loom larger in our mind.  On the Sunshine Coast, things start to take shape.
In this episode we attempt our first 3-way Skype call for the podcast.  Harry & Garth speak to Simon Harvey (of the previous ep with his wife Katrina 2nd July).  The audio quality is at times challenging, as you’d expect, so thanks again for enduring this with a patient smile :) Simon is a Paramedic and a proud Gun-owner.  Harry is not a Paramedic and doesn’t like guns very much at all.
Today’s conversation is with Simon & Karina Harvie, a couple we met at Big Valley Campsite in Margaret River. We recorded this some months later when we passed through Adelaide and camped on Simon & Karina's front lawn (all 5 acres of it!) on our way back to Melbourne to get the Ferry to Tasmania. Simon's a Paramedic and Karina is a Midwife and both were intensely interesting and lovely people to hang out with.  We had a great time with them at Margaret River and bonded over a fair amount of McLaren Vale Shiraz - special mention needs to go to Beresford as we bought out their entire cellar of their 2012 Shiraz - delicious! In this podcast the four of us discuss Camping with Kids, Hunting (Simon's views are heart-felt and true to him - we think he  thinks he's best described as an Ethical Meat Eater), however has a wicked sense of humour and once welcomed Garth to sing Koom-by-ahhhh to the factory farmed chickens down at the local shed to give them a moment of holistic growing up :), Brewing and other hobbies.  We touch on Factory Farming and get into a deep discussion about Karina’s career as a Midwife (1:40:30), her vision for better practice at such an important time in life, and study while working and parenting… Thanks to Simon & Karina for their lovely hospitality and for joining us on our PodCast.  We hope you enjoy :

Farmer Pete & Farmer Meg

Farmer Pete & Farmer Meg

We had the pleasure to indulge our love of the Ocean & Wine in Margaret River and had the pleasure of staying at Big Valley Campsite in WA. This is a must for everyone.  Laid back, lovely, serene and easy. We thought we had to do a PodCoast with Farmer Pete & Farmer Meg.  This was so much fun.  The Farm has been in Meg's family for generations and Pete has escaped the hectic life of London and found his feet, and his love, in Meg & Margaret River. This Podcast is epic, it's delightful and we chat about a range of topics we never thought possible. At the 1 hour mark the talk of animal slaughter comes up so just be aware of this.  Also, we get into spirituality as well. One of the things we have loved about being on the road is that we have had the distinct pleasure of meeting such sincere, beautiful and amazing people, Pete & Meg are no exception, they tell it warts and all, with true authenticity and we were delighted they agreed to join us on the Wandering Room. Here's Pete & Meg of Big Valley Campsite.
Harry with his apple crumble & icecream join Garth in Huon Valley following his long lunch at Fat Pig Farm hosted by Sadie Chresterman & Matthew Evans of Gourmet Farmer Fame.

We are delighted to bring you the second PodCast in our Series of Harry & Garth. Harry & Garth have been mates for about 8 years now and came to know each other when they worked together on and off for about 3-4 years.  Their friendship has endured whether or not they're working together. Most recently an 18 month contract (on Garth’s return to Melbourne) working on a project for Harry led them to visit a cutting edge Australian business which turned into a lunchtime burger where they decided to try things differently back at the office.  The next Monday, they gathered a few peeps around a whiteboard and brainstormed setting up a successful and ongoing implementation of ’Agile’ Operational Transformation. Always interesting and interested, (some people would call it verbose) Harry & Garth often enjoy perplexing those in meetings with them both ricocheting off onto fascinating but unrelated tangents before mobilising our meeting participants into some grand and fun new mission, fun for us anyway… Having both become addicted to PodCasts, inspiration has been gained from ‘Roderick on the Line’, ‘The History of the World in 100 objects’ ’Radio Lab’, ’Chat 10, Looks 3’ and of course ‘Chewing the Fat on Flexibility’, the boys have long discussed the idea of doing a Podcast together, finally, here it is.  Hopefully you’ll be blessed with one of these / month, as Garth tours the Country doing sweet FA, and Harry holds up the corporate world in Melbourne by continuing to kick some major goals. Erudite & engaging, as well as slightly oddly-accented (due to his English, Kiwi, Aussie path through life) is Harry, Garth on the other hand has a great Aussie accent, helped greatly by his touring of every regional port in Australia and having a chat with the locals - both chaps have a vast knowledge of well, everything obscure and intrinsically wonderful in this world.  You’ll have to excuse the intro to every (yes, every) PodCast as the gents settle into a skype call on the magnificence of well, everything.
We were delighted to become neighbours with the delightful Martin Family, who we took up residence next to in Darwin. Jamie and Amy were delightful co-parents to our two children as Sam & Charlie joined in the day to day rides, swims, altogether Darwin-esk activities with their gorgeous 4 kids.  We survived humidity, sweat, crocodile chats and altogether had a great time with these wonderful people who whisked Helen away (well Amy did) on her first girls' night out in 3 months and enjoyed dinner, wine and Bridget Jones' #3 instalment!!! When we discovered this lovely family was from the gorgeous town of Sawtell, on the northern NSW coast, had 4 kids in tow in a caravan and had been travelling Australia for 10 months, were amazingly sane and nice, we needed to get their conversation recorded. What ensued was nothing but delightful, raw, honest, inspiring from an amazing couple who have chosen to, despite some incredibly rough knocks that life can throw your way, to abandon the norm and pursue their passions.  We are inspired by them! Martins around Oz is their facebook profile.  Check out this gorgeous family - amazing inside and out!!!
Garth & Christian                  Christian, Charlie, Sam & Helen & Ms Molly         The Boys with Miss Molly   This is a PodCast where we don't know where to start ..... it is full of such fun and wild tales, enjoyed over a lovely bottle of Bellwether Vino, it was such a great conversation with a most intriguing and engaging traveller. Whilst hanging out in Port Augusta (mostly considered a stop-over destination only , people) we came across a Swiss Man who was making Milo like a scientist! So measured, thorough and clearly had a process of how he enjoyed his Milo made.  Who could blame him, Milo rocks right?! But as we got talking to him, we found he had a tale or two to tell about his travels around Australia, this time. Christian Zimmerman is a Swiss Photographer who has been to Australia several times, seen this great country in all modes of transport, except for walking, pushing a shopping trolley who is now named Miss Molly, from Darwin to Adelaide. The stories are magnificent, from high profile South Australian Aristocrats silently murdering their friends and writing books about it to people who stop to give him breakfast every morning on their way to drop their kids to school as he troops down the Stuart Highway. Loads of fun and full of adventure, Christian is awesome. Check out his work on Facebook at Global AV-Produktionen / Andreas & Christian Zimmerman
We had the absolute pleasure of spending some time in the back 5 acres of Bellwether Wines surrounded by 5 Sheep and acres of red gums.  It was a beautiful time in Coonawarra made even more delightful by Sue Bell & Steve Brown from Bellwether Wines.  They were very kind and shared a drop of their lovely red wine with us and a bit of their inspiring story.  We hope you enjoy too.
Garth was tickled pink to venture 120km from Coonawarra and get onto some pretty tasty Craft Beer.  We met the loveable Tom O'Reilly who is on a 12 month sabbatical from Stone & Wood Brewery at Byron and is turning his hand at winemaking and craft beer brewing at Cape Jaffa and also doing some interesting brewery work with Robe Town Brewery. Thanks Tom for showing us around!
