"Wise man say, 'Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza'." . That's right, the guys reach deep into the well of 90s nostalgia and venture back to everyone's favorite pizza-eating sewer dwellers, THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. Because life was simpler back when Mikey, Raph, Donny, & Leo were taking care of mayhem in the heart of New York City. . Jake + Mitch go full blown geek as they break down the cultural impact of the 1990 classic. Little did we know this campy, iconic gem would end up serving as formula for the MCU juggernaut decades later. More importantly, the guys compare the merits of viewing TMNT as their generations GODFATHER. . Plus, a few other random things: . - Mitch shares his Master Splinter impression. - Jake shares his TMNT trauma. . This one gets rowdy, but in the best way possible. Cowabunga, dudes! . Deal with it. . Does Superman Need Fixing?

Does Superman Need Fixing?

What's wrong with Kal-El? . Jake + Mitch dive into the polarizing discussion of Superman and his relevancy, or lack-thereof, in modern culture. Because if Warner Bros. is stumped, that means there's a problem...right? Maybe not so much. The guys hit a few questions along the way: . - Is it fair to compare Batman and Superman? - Why can't WB figure out the secret sauce? - Who would we want to see directing Supes' new title? . A lot is said, but ultimately the guys come back to a simple plea: Is it too much to ask for just one really good Superman movie?! Time will tell. But if the new take involves Grant Morrison and/or new-wave animation--we are totally in. . The Watching Comics Podcast presents a shiny, new segment: IMPOSSIBLE QUESTIONS. . Attempts to posit a question that may be impossible to answer; or at least attempts to re-visit something we may have underestimated. Quick takes, sharp focus, and endless Twitter-blasting potential. . Co-Host Mitch kicks-off the fun segment by asking the impossible question: . Is it possible that one movie gave us the two greatest performances in the history of comic book films? . In a few quick minutes, Mitch makes the case that V FOR VENDETTA, in addition to being a flat-out awesome movie, gives us the best performances the comic book arena has seen. Would we really be comic fans if we didn't have a take? . Jake + Mitch, finally, share their sought-after (or maybe not so sought-after) thoughts on the infamous Snyder Cut. More importantly, Mitch shares how the Joss-edition nearly ruined his 30th birthday. Nevertheless, with the growing Twitter-noise, it certainly seems as though the JUSTICE LEAGUE Snyder cut may actually happen. . The guys break it down through three main questions: . - What does this mean for them as fans? - Would this event be big enough to capture the zeitgeist? - What do we make of internet fandom + activism going forward? . One thing is certain, a lot of folks want more Steppenwolf and that is...well, that's definitely a choice. Either way, if the Snyder Cut does make its way onto a streaming platforms we'll watch it. . Time to re-write history… Jake + Mitch welcome back original friend of the pod, Dennis “Tanoshiboy” Salvatier, back to tackle the great re-casting project of 2019. That’s right, the guys go back in time and dare to reimagine existing comic flicks with different actors. Here’s how it works: Each person picks one hero and one villain to recast in any existing comic book movies. Naturally, the exercise kicked-off a ton of fascinating “what if?” conversations. - What if we booted Samuel L. from the MCU? - What if Steve Buscemi squared off against Tobey Maguire? - What if Ben Affleck and Hugh Jackman traded roles? - What if we could’ve saved the Green Lantern movie all along? - What if Viggo was in Batman v Superman? Anarchy reigns supreme in this one as the guys revise the zeitgeist. Because the only thing better than a comic book movie is the excitement surrounding ones that won’t exist…right? 2019-10-3100:30:27

The clock is ticking… . After 12 years of fan theories, rants, and continuous conversations, Jake + Mitch can finally live in a world where a WATCHMEN HBO series exists. The first episode has dropped and we’ve already lost a key character and seen Rorschach’s memory take a turn for the worst. Even with all the awesomeness, a few questions remain: . - Is Ozymandias the secret to the extended Watchmen universe? - Could Regina King be any more awesome? - Will we see the blue doctor as a major player this season? . A lot more ground left to cover, but it seems as though Damon Lindelof is delivering another prestige gem. And no better platform for this gutsy story than HBO. . Find us on Twitter and let us know your thoughts on the new WATCHMEN. . Time to put on a happy face...or maybe not. . Jake + Mitch welcome the infamous podcaster and film editor Ashley from The Cutaways Pod to dish on that one popular movie with that one guy in the clown makeup. More importantly, they break down why Todd Phillips seems so passionate about this particular project. . Along the way, they hit make other notable stops: . - Is Joaquin playing the real Joker, or a mere wannabe? - Is the film homage or derivative? - With its sensitive subject matter, does JOKER cause more problems than it solves? . Obviously, spoilers abound in this epically awesome and emotionally charged episode. If you haven't caught this one in all its nihilistic glory yet--you've been warned. . But among all the noise surrounding this tantalizing title, JOKER makes no apologies. It's just too bad it ended-up not having anything to say. . Needless to say, it's time to hash out a few not-so-important topics that are sure to invade the Twitter-verse. . - Are the next slew of villain-focused flicks a waste of time? - Is Batman Forever better than Batman Begins? . The guys go deep into their looming unpopularity and decide once and for all if the hoopla is worthwhile. Because what good is having a podcast if you're not going to say polarizing stuff? . 2019-09-2700:50:13

When in doubt, drink from the well of sweet nostalgia. . Jake + Mitch jump back into prime 90’s territory and re-visit the iconic, genre-bending film BLADE. Because where else can we find a sci-fi adjacent, kung-fu inspired, true blue action flick? With so much awesomeness to unpack, the guys take a deep-dive down a few surprising pathways… . - Is BLADE the most influential of the 90’s comics flicks? -What do we make of Wesley Snipes: Underrated or Overrated? - And what if Stephen Norrington directed the new SPAWN? . All that and more in only the unique way WCP can deliver. Also, Jake know way more about Putin than he should; and Mitch assumes the role of President of the Sly Stallone fan club. Re-Visiting THE PHANTOM

2019-08-3000:41:10

Are you ready to slam evil? Jake + Mitch dip into the well of sweet 90’s nostalgia in re-visiting Billy Zane and his purple jumpsuit. THE PHANTOM was not quite a phenomenon, but in the brief trend of resurrecting art-deco comic strips of yesteryear, it was definitely a contributor. Of course, with a hamburgler mask and a mystical ring there’s only so much substance one can hope for. Nevertheless, the guys ask the tough questions: - Treat Williams: Best comic book movie mustache ever? - Better airplane stunts: Billy Zane or Tom Cruise? - Which is better: Judge Dredd or The Phantom? They also go down a rabbit hole of discussing the merits of Superman and Lex Luthor’s arch-rival status. It makes sense…mostly. And just like that, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has moved. Jake + Mitch jump-in with an emergency pod to dish on the latest Twitter-breaking development from studio wars. Disney's greedy, that's no surprise, but Sony certainly seems to have confidence in their flagship comic book property. A few questions remain: - Does Sony need Feige's influence? - How will the MCU fare sans Spidey? - Do we really need Disney to own everything? True to form, the guys have a lot of thoughts. And most of them revolve around hoping the next two Holland Spider-man flicks aren't awful.
