Surfrider is a grass roots organization that is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches, for all people, through a powerful activist network! Stefanie Sekich-Quinn is the Costal preservation manager! In her own words, Stefanie might tell you that she’s a “politics, law and policy” dork, but that isn’t the case at all. She is a leading expert in these fields on both the state and national level. Beginning as a San Diego Chapter Manager and working her way to her current position, Stefanie has been an absolutely integral part of the team. She also helped spearhead the Save Trestles campaign and continues to protect this legendary surf break and watershed. She earned a MA in Environmental Law and Policy from the University of Keele. Stefanie currently assists Surfrider’s chapter network to implement effective advocacy efforts at the local, state and federal levels to protect coastal resources and influence agencies and elected officials to plan for climate change impacts. Laura Garcia Barcia is a Ph.D. candidate at Florida International University’s Predator Ecology & Conservation Lab. Originally from Barcelona, Spain, she is an environmental biologist particularly interested in marine wildlife conservation. The ultimate goal of García Barcia’s research is to inform conservation measures that help improve the status of shark populations.
