Is the threat outside? Is it next door? Is it inside your house? There's no telling. There's no stopping it. It's not one, it's hundreds. From every direction. There's no escaping this horde of flesh devouring people. That's the flavor of fear people that plagued people in the 60s. Relentless, and ubiquitous. How could one feel safe when everyone's a threat? On this episode, we discuss a movie so formative to Kiara, she sees it's influence in nearly every scary movie she's watched! Tell us what you think! We’re saddened to announce this will be our last episode. We’re throwing away our phones, laptops, tablets, and televisions, and we’re moving off grid, because “The Den” ruined our lives. (just kidding about that first part, we’re not going anywhere - but we’re probably never going to sleep again) Anika exposes Kiara to the scariest movie she’s ever seen; and Kiara really wishes she hadn’t.  TIME STAMPS 0:00 - intro /background 19:38 - live reactions 22:17 - let’s talk about it SOURCES RIP Omegle Chatroulette Study Director Interview: Zachary Donahue CONTACT US Instagram - WearescaredpodEmail - wearescaredpod@gmail.com
It's Season 3 and we are BACK to scream into the abyss, this time about movies which make us feel particularly compelled to scream! Your hosts this season Anika & Kiara kick it off with an introduction to the soapbox theme and the movies we'll be climbing on said soapbox for.
What genre is it, anyway? Anika tries to get to the bottom of it.
X is a modern take on the 70s slasher. It's a candid lens on youth, aging, and lusting after the vitality you no longer possess. Camille, Kiara and Anika discuss Ti West's 2022 film, and how horror will evolve in years to come. X lives up to its name--sex, gruesome deaths, and twisted fantasies all have there place in it. Here's Kiara's synopsis of Ti West's first installment of the trilogy.
Your hosts discuss the Blair Witch Project, the iconic and genre-shifting found-footage movie that you have probably seen, heard about, and/or avoided. *TW: sexual assault, 20:00 - 25:45* A horror flick that celebrates all the horror flicks that came before it–the ribbon around a bouquet of horrific treasures! It introduces so much to the genre, and the world of film. It’s Romero’s Night of the Living Dead with a pinch of Hooper’s Texas Chainsaw, a hint of Carpenter’s Halloween, a twist of Friedkin’s Exorcist, and most importantly a sprinkle of the 3 Stooges. This cult classic was created by Sam Raimi, who’s also responsible for kicking off our cinematic universe of heroes. Before directing the Amazing Spider-Man, Raimi inspired a host of new horror movies, and movie makers (think Eli Roth’s Cabin Fever, Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead) with his first feature film, The Evil Dead.  Sources: HomeHCR: “Article/ The Number One Nasty”   ScreenRant: “What Happened To The Cabin After The Evil Dead” by Michael Kennedy, Jan 3 2020 Fangoria: “FANGORIA #23: EVIL DEAD; TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE; POLTERGEIST” page 23  JoBlo: “Updated: Stephen King’s original review of The Evil Dead”  Fandom: “The History of Evil Dead’s Necronomicon” by Blair Marnel, April 17 2023
Coming Soon! Kïarã is very sorry that it isn’t ready yet, but she promises it will be worth the wait!
It's our season finale! It's a doozy; the cherry on top to our series on slashers. It's Scream, the self-aware, scary movie that revived the genre. It celebrates all the slashers that came before it, it plays with expectations, it is simply a delight. Kiara, Anika, and Camille looked forward to this conversation all season, and it shows. Tune in for our last slasher hurrah! Sources: "Scream: The Inside Story" (2011) made by Daniel Farrands and Thommy Hutson
Woodsboro is a sweet, sleepy town with few worries, except for Ghostface: a nuisance in a sparkly costume on a killing spree. Camille gives a gripping synopsis of Wes Craven's masterpiece, Scream.
